The DCHS Tigers’ hopes of getting their first win of the season were washed away with the rain Friday night in Smithville as they lost 38-16 to the visiting Stone Memorial Panthers.
DeKalb County drops to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in region play. Stone Memorial improves to 2-1 on the season and 1-0 in the region.
The Panthers’ first score came on a 15 yard touchdown run by Thomas Vanvorhes with 7:23 left in the 1st period. The 2 point conversion run was good for an 8-0 Stone Memorial lead.
Quarterback Thomas Arnold scored on a 45 yard touchdown run with 5:55 left in the 2nd period. With the 2 point conversion run, the Panthers led 16-0.
Stone Memorial extended its lead with 2:05 left in the 2nd period on a 5 yard touchdown run by Grant Finley. The 2 point conversion run gave the Panthers a 24-0 advantage.
QB Arnold got his second TD of the game on an 87 yard run with 9:10 left in the 3rd period. With the 2 point conversion run, Stone Memorial led 32-0
DeKalb County’s David Bradford got the Tigers on the board with 5:26 left in the 3rd period on a 2 yard touchdown run. QB Tyler Cantrell scored on the 2 point conversion run to cut the Panthers lead to 32-8.
Stone Memorial added to its lead on a 1 yard TD run by Jayden Bowman with 11:31 left in the 4th period. The 2 point conversion attempt failed but the Panthers led 38-8.
DeKalb County’s last score of the game came on a 35 yard touchdown run by David Bradford with 10 minutes left in the game. QB Tyler Cantrell scored on the 2 point conversion run but the Tigers lost 38-16.
The Tigers will travel to Watertown next Friday night, September 8 to take on the Purple Tigers. Kick-off is set for 7:00 p.m. WJLE will have LIVE coverage.
