88 year old Fowler G. Stanton of Smithville died Thursday at DeKalb Community Hospital. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 6th at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Smithville. Terry Little and Dr. John Purdue will officiate. Mr. Stanton’s wishes were for his former students to arrive at the Memorial service one hour early for a special tribute in Song. A visitation with the family will be Friday, March 5th at the CFC building of the Smithville First United Methodist Church from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Stanton is survived by his wife, Oleta Stanton of Smithville. Two daughters, Melody and her husband Dr. Tim Foster of Old Hickory and Sonata and husband Randy Rayburn of Nashville. A step-daughter, Dona Jane D. and husband Pat Clements of Nashville. Step-son, Harold Edward and wife Vicki Copeland of Cookeville. Two granddaughters, Lauren and Katie Foster. Three grandsons, Duke Rayburn, and Eathen and Braden Copeland. Memorials may be made to the Music Department of the schools where Mr. Stanton taught: Jackson County High School, Smith County High School, or DeKalb County High School. The Carthage Chapel of Bass Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
