87 year old Hoytte Venson Griffith of Smithville died Wednesday at his residence. He was a farmer, member of the Banks Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and a U.S. Army World War II Veteran. The funeral will be Friday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Charles “Buddy” Pope and Greg Mullis will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jennie Lee Joins Griffith; his parents, John Garrison and Effie Evergreen Yeargin Griffith; brothers, Houston, Carl, and John Griffith; and a sister, Sarah Dean Moss. Survivors include a son, Roger and his wife Lynn Griffith of Smithville. Grandsons, Chris and his wife Jennifer Griffith and Ron and his wife Mindy Griffith all of Dowelltown. Great grandchildren, Kiersten, Cadee, and Aly Griffith. Two sisters, Elva Wilbert of New Jersey, Magdalene Joins of Smithville and a sister-in-law, Gladys Griffith of Smithville. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
