74 year old Betty Jean Murphy of Sparta died Monday at Saint Thomas Hospital. She was a retired machine operator with Dowelltown Manufacturing and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ. The funeral will be Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Johnny Smartt will officiate and burial will be in the Jennings Cemetery in Statesville. Visitation will be Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Lily Murphy; her husband, Charlie Murphy; a daughter, Lois Smartt; five brothers; and a sister. Survivors include four daughters, Patricia Murphy of Sparta, Darlene and husband Andrew Murphy, Charlene Mashburn and Regina Hannah all of Smithville. Seven sons, Brad and wife Teresa Murphy of Sparta, Audie and wife Evelyn Murphy of Madisonville, Billy and wife Karen Murphy of Walling, David and wife Tammy Murphy of McMinnville, Steve and wife Vanessa Murphy of Woodbury, Micha and wife Teresa Murphy, and Samuel and wife Miranda Murphy all of Smithville. Thirty eight grandchildren and several great grandchildren. One brother, Clyde Murphy of Walling and a sister, Bissie Dodd of Watertown. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
