86 year old Marvin “Pete” Parker of Smithville died Sunday at his residence. He was a member of the Smithville First Freewill Baptist Church and he served in the U.S. Army in World War II. Parker was a baseball coach in Birmingham, Michigan and in 1973 he coached the Little League All-Star Team to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. He retired from the Ford Motor Tractor Division. The funeral will be Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Bernard Houk will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Monday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. Parker was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Flora Taylor Parker; a son, Marvin Taylor Parker; and two brothers, Kenneth and Jack Parker. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lucy Parker of Smithville. A son and daughter-in-law, David and Becky Parker of Smithville. Daughter-in-law, Michelle Parker of Michigan. Six grandchildren, Bill, Brian, Zach, Samantha, and Hannah Parker,and Paul Holland. Two great grandchildren, Brooke and Bryce Parker. Two sisters-in-law, Billie Sue Parker of Smithville and Virginia Shoops of Michigan. Nieces and nephews, Kenneth Wayne Parker, Greg, Craig, Cindy Shoops, George and Janice Shoops.
