Billy Ray Smith

56 year old Billy Ray Smith of Dowelltown died Wednesday at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville. He was self-employed. A graveside service will be Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Jefferson Cemetery. Elbert Willis will officiate. Visitation will be Saturday from noon until 1:30 p.m. at which time the family will leave for the cemetery. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Thomas and Bessie Lee Smith and a brother, Roy Thomas Smith, Jr. Survivors include a daughter, Jessica and husband Quintin Whitman of Nashville. Grandchildren, Vondarious and Jazlynn Martin both of Nashville. Step grandchildren, Cole, Jaylen and Jayda Whitman. Brothers, Johnny Smith of Dowelltown, Andy and wife Jennifer Smith of Smithville. Sisters, Betty and husband Elbert “Peanut” Willis of McMinnville and Linda and husband Thomas Craig of Murfreesboro. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. The family asks that donations be made to DeKalb Funeral Chapel to help with funeral expenses, in lieu of flowers.
