Joan Carol (Chandler) Paulsen, age 77 of Smithvile, died peacefully in her sleep at Alive Hospice Care Center in Nashville on Friday, July 27.
Joan was born on February 27, 1935 in Rhinelander, Wisconsin where grew she grew up and married the late Duane “Duke” H. Paulsen. They enjoyed 38 years of marriage until his death on December 12, 1996. Also preceding her in death were her parents, Fred and Genevieve Chandler of Rhinelander, Wisconsin, as well as one brother, Eugene Chandler. Joan is survived by daughters, Lori and husband Roger Bowman of Smithville and Kelle and husband Brian Dorn of Antigo, Wisconsin; one son, Grant and wife Tamara Paulsen of Smithville. Surviving her as well are three grandsons: Jeremy and wife Sheena Zoller of Huntsville, Alabama; Justin Zoller of Nashville and Jesse Zoller of Smyrna as well as four granddaughters, Jayme and MaKenzie Dorn of Antigo, Wisconsin and Tessa and Giana Paulsen of Smithville, and one great-granddaughter, Karsen Zoller of Huntsville, Alabama. Surviving her as well are her brother, Robert and wife Eva Chandler of Gurnee, Illinois, her sister-in-law, and close friend Virginia Joan Paulsen, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Joan had an intense love for her family. She cherished being a wife, mother, grandmother, and most recently a great-grandmother. Joan also had an ardent zeal for the worship of her God, Jehovah. She dedicated her life to Him in July of 1962. She served Him faithfully in Wisconsin, and she was most recently an active member of the Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Smithville, where she zealously fulfilled her dedication until her death.
Memorial services for Joan will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 981 East Broad Street, Smithville on Saturday, August 4 at 4:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to share their condolences and memories of Joan with the family from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.
