74 year old Freeland Gibbs of Alexandria died Sunday at Saint Thomas Hospital in Nashville. He was a member of the Upper Helton Baptist Church and a retired employee of TRW Ross Gear. The funeral will be Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. Billy Robinson and Kurt Waggoner will officiate and burial will be in Hillview Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Lola Mae Burton Gibbs; an infant son, David Gibbs; a brother, Wendell Gibbs; and a sister, Elizabeth Ketchum. Survivors include his wife, Ruby Moss Gibbs of Alexandria. Four children, Sandra Fowler of Alexandria, Thomas and his wife Sherry Gibbs of Alexandria, Anita and her husband Robert Higgins of Elmwood, and Lisa and her husband Clark Oakley of Liberty. Nine grandchildren, Tracy Lawrence, Monica Hendrixson, Stacy Fowler, Megan Gibbs, Braiden, Jordon, and Ethan Alvis, and Cason and Addison Oakley. Three great grandchildren,Caitlyn and Rebecca Lawrence, and Ella Hendrixson. Two sisters, Martha Hood and Sally Rankins both of Indiana and a brother, James A. Gibbs of Indiana. The family requests that donations be made to Alive Hospice of Murfreesboro in memory of Mr. Gibbs, in lieu of flowers. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
