Ruth Snow Webb

93 year old Ruth Snow Webb died Thursday at the Rolling Green Village Health Care Center in South Carolina. She was born on October 31st, 1913, the daughter of Thomas B. and Sarah Snow Webb. She graduated from high school in Smithville in 1932, worked for some years, and then graduated in 1940 from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. During World War II, she enlisted in the WAVES section of the United States Navy, serving from October 1942 until July 1946, when she was discharged as a lieutenant commander. After the war, she was an employment officer for several government agencies, working in Washington D.C., in Alaska, and in Saigon during the Vietnam War. After 1970, she returned to Smithville to make her home, and served as administrator of Sunny Point Nursing Home. After her retirement in 1974, she traveled to several foreign countries. About 1990, she moved to Greenville, South Carolina, where she lived until her death. She became a member of the Smithville First Baptist Church in 1928 and had been a member longer than anyone now living. She was preceded in death by her parents and by three brothers, Houston, T.B., and James Webb, and by three sisters, Georgia Mai Webb, Jessie Loring, and Helen Cline. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Nell Webb of Carthage; four nephews, Howard Webb Loring and his wife Mary Ann of Florida, Billy Webb and wife Earlene of Chattanooga, Tommy Webb and wife Audrey of Smithville, Kenneth Webb and wife Faye of Pulaski; and two nieces, Sara Lynn Postma and husband Jan of Spartanburg, South Carolina, and Elizabeth Baucom and husband Clyde of Greenville, South Carolina. The funeral service will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Town Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to go to the Aaron Cantrell Cemetery or Town Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
