77 year old Thelma Nell Cantrell of Smithville, former owner and operator of Houston’s Jewelry, died Monday at NHC Healthcare Center in Smithville. She was a member of the Johnson’s Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Michael Hale will officiate and burial will be in the Johnson’s Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from noon until 9:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her husband, Houston Cantrell; her parents, Robert and Mary Ann Johnson Maynard; and two brothers, Howard and Furman Maynard. Survivors include a nephew, Michael Maynard of Sparta. Brothers and sisters-in-law, Hurl and his wife Waltyne Cantrell of Sparta, Magdalene Cantrell of Smithville, Brenda and her husband R.V. Billings of Sparta, Phyllis and her husband Bob Malone of North Carolina, Janice Cantrell of Sparta, Debbie and her husband Jerry Luna of Sparta, and several nieces and nephews also survive. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
