77 year old Alvin “Buck” Burton of Smithville died Wednesday at his residence. He was a member of the Whorton Springs Baptist Church and a self-employed cabinet worker. Burton served in the U.S. Navy, a veteran of the Korean War. The funeral will be Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Steve Warren will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.; Friday from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.; and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Zettie and Henry Viola Davis Burton and nine brothers and sisters. Survivors include his wife, Jackie Burton of Smithville. Seven children, Adam and his wife Wanda Mathis, Diane and husband Chris Crook, and Karen and husband Aaron Lester all of Smithville, Joe Burton of Livingston, Dennis Burton and Rocky Burton both of Nashville, and Frank and wife Jeannie Burton of Kentucky. Ninteen grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. Two sisters, Margaret Dabbs of Nashville and Barbara Wooten of LaVergne. Several nieces and nephews also survive. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
