A Nashville couple was airlifted after a motorcycle crash Sunday afternoon on Highway 96 (Dale Ridge Road).
70 year old Randall Barnes and 72 year old Pauline Barnes were injured in the accident and were airlifted by separate helicopter ambulances from a landing zone set up on Highway 70 at the top of Snow Hill.
Trooper Chris Delong of the Tennessee Highway Patrol told WJLE that Randall Barnes was operating the 2008 Harley Davidson with Pauline Barnes as his passenger. He was traveling south on Dale Ridge Road (toward Highway 70) when he failed to negotiate a curve. The motorcycle went off the right side of the highway, into a ditchline, and then about 25 feet down an embankment. The Barnes’ were thrown from the bike.

They were transported from the scene by DeKalb EMS to the helicopter landing zone. One of the victims was airlifted by Vandy Life Flight and the other by Erlanger Life Force. Both were believed to have been flown to Vanderbilt hospital.
Members of the DeKalb County Volunteer Fire Department and Sheriff’s Department were also on the scene.

The DCHS Tigers’ hopes of getting their first win of the season were washed away with the rain Friday night in Smithville as they lost 38-16 to the visiting Stone Memorial Panthers.
DeKalb County drops to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in region play. Stone Memorial improves to 2-1 on the season and 1-0 in the region.
The Panthers’ first score came on a 15 yard touchdown run by Thomas Vanvorhes with 7:23 left in the 1st period. The 2 point conversion run was good for an 8-0 Stone Memorial lead.
Quarterback Thomas Arnold scored on a 45 yard touchdown run with 5:55 left in the 2nd period. With the 2 point conversion run, the Panthers led 16-0.
Stone Memorial extended its lead with 2:05 left in the 2nd period on a 5 yard touchdown run by Grant Finley. The 2 point conversion run gave the Panthers a 24-0 advantage.
QB Arnold got his second TD of the game on an 87 yard run with 9:10 left in the 3rd period. With the 2 point conversion run, Stone Memorial led 32-0
DeKalb County’s David Bradford got the Tigers on the board with 5:26 left in the 3rd period on a 2 yard touchdown run. QB Tyler Cantrell scored on the 2 point conversion run to cut the Panthers lead to 32-8.
Stone Memorial added to its lead on a 1 yard TD run by Jayden Bowman with 11:31 left in the 4th period. The 2 point conversion attempt failed but the Panthers led 38-8.
DeKalb County’s last score of the game came on a 35 yard touchdown run by David Bradford with 10 minutes left in the game. QB Tyler Cantrell scored on the 2 point conversion run but the Tigers lost 38-16.
The Tigers will travel to Watertown next Friday night, September 8 to take on the Purple Tigers. Kick-off is set for 7:00 p.m. WJLE will have LIVE coverage.

A 17 year old boy was cited for failing to exercise due care Friday evening after his vehicle rear ended a school bus transporting six students home from school.
According to Trooper Danielle Neal of the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the bus driver, Myron Rhody was turning from South Mountain Street (Highway 146) onto Jackson Street in Smithville when the teen, driving a 2000 Chevy S-10 rear ended the bus. 18 year old Chris Hobbs was a passenger with the boy.
One of the students on the bus, an 11 year old girl, reportedly complained of back pain and was transported by DeKalb EMS to St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital. The teen driver of the Chevy S-10 was also transported to the hospital. Neither was believed to be seriously hurt.
No one else involved in the accident was transported.
Parents of the students were notified and arrived at the scene to take their children home.
Members of the Smithville Police and Fire Departments were also on site to provide assistance.
The bus, #19, is a sub and received some damage to the rear bumper in the accident. The bus will not be used again until the state inspects it.
Meanwhile, in a separate accident 18 year old Dominick Barlow of Sparta escaped injury Friday night in a one vehicle crash on Highway 70 east near Sligo bridge.
According to Trooper Neal, Barlow was driving west on Highway 70 in a 2001 Dodge 1500 when the truck went out of control, spun around, and overturned coming to rest on the driver side door in a ditch facing east.
Barlow was helped from the truck but he refused transport to the hospital. Members of the DeKalb County Volunteer Fire Department, Sheriff’s Department, and EMS were on the scene.

Two men fleeing a Cannon County Sheriff’s Department Detective in a stolen car were injured in a crash on Hogfoot Road in DeKalb County Thursday afternoon. Both men, 35 year old Jonathan Scott of McMinnville and 32 year old Eric Cox of Liberty were airlifted with serious injuries. The detective was not involved in the accident.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Scott was driving a 1995 Honda Accord with Cox as his passenger. The detective initiated a pursuit of the car in Cannon County and crossed into DeKalb County on Hogfoot Road. The officer told the THP that he terminated the chase and lost sight of the car before the wreck but came upon the crash.
The THP told WJLE that Scott failed to negotiate a curve and ran off the right side of the road into a small creek. Both Scott and Cox were taken to a helicopter landing zone set up by the DeKalb County Fire Department on Highway 53 at the DeKalb/Cannon County line. Scott was flown to Vanderbilt Hospital and Cox was airlifted enroute to Skyline Medical Center.
WJLE spoke with a Cannon County Sheriff’s detective Thursday night but he declined to comment about the pursuit saying the department has been advised by the District Attorney General not to make any public statements.
The crash was investigated by THP Trooper William Jackson assisted by Trooper Bobby Johnson.

The 1972 Tiger Football Team will reunite Friday night, September 1 at the White Possum Grille at 5:00 p.m. All members of this team regardless of class year, coaches, managers, and spouses are invited to attend. Following a Dutch-treat meal, the team will take a short walk to VanHooser Stadium to watch the Tigers compete with Stone Memorial High School.
