68 year old Earl Dyer of Smithville died Tuesday at his residence. He was a mechanic and a member of the Apostolic Ark Church in Murfreesboro. The funeral will be Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Matt Walls will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. Dyer was preceded in death by his parents, Haskell and Flossie Pippin Dyer; brothers, William, Hubert, Gordon, and Frank Dyer. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Comfort Dyer of Smithville. A son, Earl, Jr. and wife Amy Dyer of Dowelltown. Step-daughter, Charlotte Malone of Smithville. Brother, Raymond Dyer of Smithville. Sisters, Stella Clemons of Sparta, Gladys Chaffin, and Eller Chaffin both of Cookeville, Altie and husband Gerald Knowles, Glenda and husband John Turner, and Linda and husband Freeman Brown all of Smithville. Brothers-in-law, Jerry Comfort and Billy and wife Goldie Comfort. Sisters-in-law, Barbara Comfort, Frances Dyer, Jean Dyer, and Stella Dyer. Several nieces and nephews. 83 year old Imogene Judkins Page of Dowelltown died Monday at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a factory worker and a member of the Temperance Hall Pentecostal Church. The funeral will be Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Sister Serita Martin will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Grady and Lily Dale Judkins; five siblings, Dimple Hale, Inez Taylor, Rose Judkins, James Judkins, and Vada Davis. Survivors include three children, Robert Lynn Bain of Milton, Melissa and husband Paul Gerringer of Smithville, and Mark and wife Tracy Bain of Rock Island. Ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Three brothers, Buddy and Richard Judkins of Smithville and Douglas Judkins of North Carolina. Three sisters, Claudia Bain of Michigan, Margaret Cripps of Ohio, and Helen Maxwell of Baxter. Special friend and companion, Lloyd Tisdale of Dowelltown and special caregiver, Jamie Langford of Smithville. Several nieces and nephews also survive. 69 year old Wanda Lee Campbell Hill of Woodbury died Monday at Stones River Hospital. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home. Van Nichols will officiate and burial will be in the Reed Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the service. She is survived by her husband, James Hill of Woodbury; Sisters, Ann Ferrell and her friend, James Estes both of Woodbury, Freda and Jerry Johnson of Liberty; 2 brothers-in-law, J.T. Campbell & Ricky Dodd both of Liberty; Sister-in-law, Paulette Duggin of Smithville; 8 nephews and 4 neices. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hoyte and Allie Mears Duggin, 1st Husband, Johnny Campbell; Brother, Bobby Duggin; Sisters, Geraldine Campbell and Denise Dodd; 2 nephews, Russell & Lynn Parker. A member of the Liberty United Methodist Church, she was a house keeper at Stones River Hospital. 35 year old Jasen Travis Estes of Old Hickory died at his home Sunday. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Billy Estes, Sr. and Roy Ballentine; uncles Don Estes, and Mike Ballentine; cousin, Marshall Estes; and father-in-law, Stanley Stephens. He is survived by his wife, Arica Stephens-Estes; father, Billy and wife Regina Estes; mother, Carolyn Ballentine; brother, Trey and wife Mary Neil Estes; grandmothers, Dean Estes and Dot Ballentine; an aunt, Nancy Estes; nephews, Will, Micah, Evan, Brady, Ben, and Waylon. Niece, Mary Caroline; cousins, Houston Estes, Andy Vann; mother-in-law, Donna Faircloth; sister-in-law, Alicia Bagsby; a brother-in-law, Coy Stephens and many other family members and friends. Melvin Eugene “Gene” Gillette
84 year old Melvin Eugene “Gene” Gillette of Smithville died Sunday after a long illness.
A retired owner/operator of Gillette Service Center, a retired United States Air Force veteran for 20 years of the Korean and Vietnam wars, and a member of the Baptist Church, he was the son of the late Charlie L. and Cleo Della Neeley Gillette. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Ralph Gillette; niece, Mildred Lee; and granddaughter, Amber Nicole Tilton.
He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Gena and Steve Tilton of McMinnville; one son, Greg Lee Gillette; two grandsons, Kaleb and Nicholas Tilton of McMinnville; sister-in-law, Maureen Gillette of the Dibrell Community; special friend, Jo Grace Lowery of Smithville; and many more friends and family survive.
He was a member of American Legion Post 173, VFW Post 5064 and the Lions Club. He was a volunteer for many years with the VA Hospital.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at High’s Chapel with Bill Hall officiating. Burial will follow in New Union Cemetery, DeKalb County with full military honors administered by VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday at High’s.

32 year old Daniel Luke Caldwell of Rock Island died early Sunday morning from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Warren County. He was a born again Christian and was formerly employed at Federal Mogul. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Banks Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 2:00 p.m. Caldwell was preceded in death by a brother, Jacob Lee Caldwell; his maternal grandfather, Austin Scurlock; his paternal grandparents, Wade and Pearline Caldwell; and an uncle, Larry Scurlock. Survivors include his parents, Terry and wife Donna Scurlock Caldwell of Rock Island. Maternal grandmother, Ruth Vanatta Scurlock of Smithville. Louise G. Dodd
89 year old Louise G. Dodd died Sunday March 24 at Heritage Park Care Center in Colorado. She and her late husband, Grady Dodd ran the Hosiery Mill for many years and then later Lou Ann Fashions. She was a member of the Smithville First Baptist Church for many years. At the age of 87, she decided to move to Colorado. She is survived by a daughter, Esther RS Claridge and her husband Marvin of Glenwood Springs, Colorado; 4 Grandchildren and 5 Great-Grandchildren; several cousins and many friends. A graveside celebration of life service will be at 2:PM Wednesday April 17 at DeKalb Memorial Gardens. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the local arrangements.
