Larry Hale

64 year old Larry Hale died Saturday at DeKalb Community Hospital. Born in Detroit Michigan, he was a resident of Short Mountain Road, Smithville. Hale was worked in maintenance at Federal-Mogul in Smithville and was a veteran of Vietnam having served in the Army and earning the Purple Heart. The funeral will be Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home. Dennis Ellis, Nick Pelham, and Chad Hale will officiate. Burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Monday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Hale was preceded in death by his parents, Shelah (Duck) Hale and Jewell Bryson Hale Melton; his step dad, Frank Melton; his wife, Brenda Hale and his brother, Freddy Hale. He is survived by two daughters, Kristie and husband Charles Nokes and Shelia and husband Chris Ellis of the Short Mountain Community. Four granddaughters, Olivia and Travis Neal, Lyndsey Miller, Ashlyn Ellis, and Lilly Ellis. One great granddaughter, Caroline Neal. 51 year old Lonnie Lee Brown of Smithville died Friday at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was a factory worker. The funeral will be Monday at 1:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Robert Shepphard will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from noon until 8:00 p.m. and Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. Brown was preceded in death by his mother, Margie Jane Brown; brothers, Carl Freeman Brown; John Ricky Brown, and Roscoe J Brown; and a sister, Judy Brown. Nadine Martin Ferrell

79 year old Nadine Martin Ferrell of Woodbury died Thursday at her home. She was a member of the Baptist Church and was retired from Val-Dor. Ferrell was a native of DeKalb County and was the daughter of the late Hobert Martin and Daisy Clayborn Martin. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Hoyte Ferrell. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home. Mike Clayborn and Thurman Seber will officiate. Burial will be in the Gunter-Grizzle Cemetery. 87 year old Claude Albert Mills of Alexandria died Tuesday at NHC Health Care in Smithville. Born in Dandridge, TN, he was the son of the late Rev. William Mitchell Mills and Nora Holt Mills and was preceded in death by 3 brothers. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific were he was awarded the Purple Heart. Mills was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Lebanon and a retired Inspector with the U.S. Dept. of Defense. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lee Capps Mills of Alexandria; daughter, Rebecca Ann McBride and husband, Russell of Lancaster, Ohio; son, David Lee Mills and wife, Janet of Pagosa Springs, Colorado; grandchildren, Zachary McBride of Lancaster, Ohio, Laurel (Gary) Foreman of Mt. Vernon, Ohio, Alisha (Michael) Wilhide of Troy, North Carolina, Judith (Bubba) Oliver and Samuel (Alyse) Mills all of Watertown, and Hannah and Micah Mills both of Paposa Springs, Colorado; great grandchildren, Kailee Forman, Claudia, Jesse and Cohen Wilhide, Dakota Dotson, Dailey and MacKenzie Oliver, Tristen Mills, Scarlett and Savannah Mills; niece, Carolyn (Delano) Griffee of Ashville, North Carolina. 65 year old John Edward Turner of Smithville died Wednesday afternoon at his residence. He was a member of the New Home Baptist Church, a retired factory worker, and a U.S. Army Veteran. The funeral will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Mike Clayborn will officiate and burial will be in the Keith Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from noon until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 11:00 a.m. Turner was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Thelma Jean Arnold Turner; sisters, Mildred Poss and Judy Cunningham; and a brother, Mark Turner. 56 year old Shelia Austin of Elkton, Kentucky died early Thursday morning there. She was a member of the Church of God. The funeral will be Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Marty Goddard will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. She was preceded in death by her husband, Terry Austin; parents, James and Marion Jackson; and a sister, Linda Carol Jackson. 73 year old Buford Wayne Blair of Smithville died Thursday at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was a member of the Elizabeth Chapel Baptist Church and he had been a Game Warden with the TWRA.
