53 year old Steven K. Cantrell of Smithville passed away Wednesday. He was a Baptist, production worker, and former DCHS teacher. The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. David Hill will officiate and burial will follow in the Mt. View Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 4-8 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at 2 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, B.L. and Eva Cantrell and a brother, Kevin Cantrell. Brian Dewayne Thomason age 29 of Smithville, passed away Saturday morning, August 12, 2017 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He was born November 24, 1987 to his parents, T.D. and Sharon Armour Thomason. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Jessie Armour, James Thomason and Cleston Knowles. He was a handyman and worked at Kwik-N-Ezzy. Brian is survived by 3 children, Angel Rutland and Jayden Anderson both of Smithville and Kasin Hicks of Manchester; step-children, Aleea Kalmar and Jamey Bradshaw both of Smithville; mother, Sharon Thomason of Smithville; father, T.D. Thomason of Smithville; 2 sisters, Charity Thomason and Brandy Thomason both of Smithville; 2 brothers, Michael Thomason and Markus Mijka both of Smithville; grandmothers, Rose Knowles and Connie Armour both of Smithville; Fiancé, Tamara Lloyd of Smithville; several aunts, uncles and cousins also survive. Jamie Edward Carroll age 38 of Smithville passed away Thursday, July 27, 2017 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center from injuries received as a pedestrian on July 17 on Highway 56 in Smithville. He was born June 6, 1979 to his parents, James Edward and Frankie Elaine Farris Carroll. He was self-employed. Survivors include 3 daughters, Katelyn Walz, Carrie Carroll and Haley Carroll all of Smithville; grandmother, Frankie D. Carroll of Smithville; 1 sister, Candice Carroll of Smithville; aunt, Angela Carroll of Smithville. uncle, Steve Carroll of Smithville; several other extended family members and friends. The family has honored Jamie’s request to be cremated and there will be a Memorial Service 1 PM, Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Michael Hale officiating. 73 year old Glynn Allen Poss of Smithville passed away Tuesday at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital. He was a Baptist and retired from Kingston Timers. The funeral will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. until the service time at 1 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, David Everett and Wilma Catherine Taylor Poss and four brothers, Clifton, Mason, William, and Joe Ben Poss. 68 year old Janice Parsley of Smithville passed away Sunday, August 13, 2017 at the Webb House in Smithville. Mrs. Parsley was a retired DeKalb County school teacher, and attended the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Janice was preceded in death by her parents Floyd Lee, and Zelma Miller Foster. Survivors include her husband of 50 years Bill Parsley of Greenville, and formerly of Smithville. One son and daughter- in-law B.K. and Kim Parsley of Greenville Tn.. Two grandchildren Hank and Brooke Parsley of Greenville. Two sisters Judy and John Alsup, and Sharon and Lloyd Anderson all of Smithville. Two nephews John Miller Alsup of Smithville and Jacob Alsup of Murfreesboro. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday Aug 15th at 11:00 A.M. at the chapel of Love Cantrell Funeral Home. The family has chosen direct cremation. Visitation will be Monday from 4-8 pm, and Tuesday from 9:00 A.M. until the service time at 11:00 A.M. Janie Euline Pitman Pedigo, of Sparta, passed away at the age of 75, on August 12, 2017, at Senior Lifestyles in Baxter, TN. She was born on February 3, 1942, in White County to Lewis and Sarah Beatrice Pitman. She was a member at O’Connor Church of Christ, and she worked as a machine operator for Smithville Manufacturing until her retirement.
Mrs. Pedigo was preceded in death by her parents; husband James Pedigo; one sister Barbara Jones as well as two brothers, Gene Pitman and Richard (Bob) Pitman.
Survivors include two brothers, Dewey Pitman and wife Linda of Sparta and Royce Pitman and wife Dotty of Sparta. One sister alsosurvives, Katherine Koren and husband Joe of Florida; one brother-in-law, Tim Jones of Sparta.
Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will held 1pm Tuesday, August 15, 2017 in the chapel of Oak Lawn Funeral Home in Sparta with Doyle Crawford officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5pm until 8pm Monday at the funeral home.

Michael William Gaus age 54 of Smithville, passed away Saturday morning, August 12, 2017 at NHC HealthCare Center in Smithville. He worked in cabinetry and was a member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in McMinnville. Mike is survived by his wife, Annette Rackley Gaus of Smithville; 2 sons, Jason Scott Gaus of Huntsville, AL and Adam William Gaus of Smithville. Graveside services and interment will be conducted 5 PM Monday, August 14, 2017 at Whorton Springs Cemetery with Pastor David McMinn officiating. Visitation with the family will be Monday 3 PM until 4:45 PM at which time Mr. Gaus will be taken to the cemetery for the graveside service. Mr. Ernest C. “Junior” Mashburn, Jr., 64, of Smithville died August 10, 2017. He was born in Alabama on May 24, 1953. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest C. Mashburn, Sr. and Mildred Louise Cox Mashburn. Also, preceded by his first wife, Joann Mashburn; a brother, Joe Mashburn; a sister, Edith Spurlock; and by four grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Jessie “Peanut” Mashburn of Smithville; sons, Ray Mashburn of Smithville, Joel Lee Mashburn of Trousdale County, Bobby Joe Mashburn of Shelbyville; step-sons, Jeremy Alan Lane of Smithville and Derrick Wayne Lane of Bradyville; daughters, Lisa Moody of Woodbury, Rachel Mashburn of Woodbury, Brenda Lee Fulton of Kentucky; step-daughters, Jessica Lane (Lonnie Brown) of Dowelltown and Ceysha (Doug) Berger of New York; brothers, James Mashburn of Smithville, Jerry Mashburn of Woodbury, and Charles Gene Mashburn of Alabama; sisters, Kathy Gulley, Linda McNeese, and Sue Grayson all of Alabama; twenty five grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mr. Mashburn was a hard worker. During his life, he did many things including working at saw mills, boat repair, and Wolf’s Tree Service. He was a loving husband, always treating his wife with respect. He loved going to yard sales to pick up deals for fun and to make a little money. He was talented with his hands. He made rings from coins and made many unusual things with wood. One of his pass-times was going fishing. Spending time with family was important to him. He attended the Church of Jesus. Visitation will be held at Smith Funeral Home in Woodbury on Sunday, August 13, 2017 from 2-8 pm. Funeral services will be Monday, August 14, 2017 at 2 pm in the Smith Funeral Home chapel. Brenda Clayton Trapp age 76 of the Snow Hill Community, passed away Wednesday morning, August 9, 2017 at St. Thomas Highlands Hospital in Sparta. She was born August 23, 1940 to her parents, the late Floyd Clayton and Edith Davis Clayton Seals. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-father, Roy Seals; husband, Donald Trapp; 1 great-grandson; 1 sister, Rebecca Clayton Pedigo. Brenda was a member of the Snow Hill United Methodist Church and a retired factory worker. She leaves to cherish her memory: 7 children, Steve Trapp, Barry (Cheryl) Trapp, Teresa (Scott) Brown and Cindy Twilla (John Allen) all of Smithville, Judy (Robert) Underwood of Murfreesboro, Molly Trapp of Smyrna and Clarence (Diane) Trapp of Dowelltown; 15 grandchildren, Steve Trapp, Jr., Stephanie Nash, Ginger Trapp, Brian Trapp, Justin Trapp, Brad Trapp, Kevin Twilla, Kelli Davis, Alex Underwood, Darren Crawford, Lindsey Stillwell, Hailey Thweatt, Amber Clayborn, Anna Trapp Dillard and Allyson Trapp; 26 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Debra (Tony) Miller of GA; 2 brothers, Kenneth (Ellen) Clayton of Smithville and Perry (Dana) Clayton of Crossville; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
