80 year old Billy Phillips, Sr. of Smithville died Tuesday at his residence. He was an employee at the Snow Hill receiving station (convenience site) for the DeKalb County Landfill operation. The funeral will be Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burnes Lyons will officiate. Burial will be in DeKalb Cemetery. A wake will be held on Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. No visitation will be held on Saturday prior to the service at 1:00 p.m. The service will be open to the public. Phillips was preceded in death by his parents, Chauncie Depew and Julie League Phillips. Survivors include two sons, Billy League Phillips, Jr. and special daughter-in-law Sue and Danny Ray Phillips, Sr. and wife Libby all of Smithville. One daughter, Julia Louise Owens of Smithville. Two brothers, Walter C. Phillips of Smithville and Jimmy and wife Elaine Phillips of Maryland. 86 year old Jack Farley Burton of Smithville died Sunday at NHC Healthcare Center. He was a member at Wolf Creek Baptist Church; supervisor for Frito Lay, and he served in the U.S. Marines. The funeral will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Herb Leftwich will officiate and burial will be in Whorton Springs Cemetery .Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Winson and Hazel Jacobs Burton; wife, Christine Burton; a sister, Gloria Ann Burton; and brothers, Winson, Bill, Tom, and Michael Burton. Survivors include sisters, Keeble and husband Jack Helms of Silver Point and Jean Kelly of Smyrna. A brother, Terry Lee and wife Ann Burton of Silver Point. 75 year old Joe Ray Ramsey of Evansville, Tennessee died Friday at Rhea County Medical Center. He was a member of the Church of God and a minister. A graveside service will be Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the family farm cemetery in Cannon County. Otis Ball and Graden Kirksey will officiate. Visitation will be Monday from 11:00 a.m. until 1:15 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel and then the family will go to the cemetery for the graveside service. Ramsey was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Viola Jones Ramsey; a sister, Hazel Alexander; and brothers, Fowler and Willie Ramsey. Survivors include children, Rhonda Ramsey of Smithville, Kimberly Dishman and companion Chuck Cannon of Evansville, and Darrell Ramsey of Smithville. Grandchildren, James Ramsey and Tiffany Gora. Great grandchildren, Jacob and Malcolm Gora. Brothers and sisters, Jean and husband Curtis George of Woodbury, Jessie and husband Doyle Christian of Woodbury, Jimmy and wife Judy Ramsey of Sycamore, Charlie Ramsey of Nashville. Visitation will be Saturday from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 2:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her husband, William “Pete” Young; parents, Lloyd and Lillian Bluhm Braswell; a brother, Truman Braswell; and a step-son, Freddie Young. Survivors include a daughter, Rita and husband Gerry Nokes; grandchildren, Tonya and Bill Melton and Stephanie and Tommy Alexander; great grandchildren, Jacob and Heather Melton, Erica Melton, Jarrett Melton, and Rachel and Luke Alexander; and great great grandchild, Allie Melton all of Woodbury. 80 year old Mentie Elizabeth Atnip of Smithville died Thursday at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a Baptist and a factory worker. The funeral will be Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mount Holly Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Atnip was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Lillie Frances Young; three sisters, and five brothers. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Auval Atnip of Smithville. One son, Austin Eugene and wife Jean Atnip of Keltonburg. Four daughters, Brenda Gail and husband Ricky Adams of Lebanon, Patricia Ann Wright of Lebanon, Mairene and husband Tracy Bowman of Lebanon, and Sherry and husband Terry O’Neil of Gordonsville. She and her husband were the owners of Webb’s Coin-Op Laundromat and Todd’s Sportswear, and she was a member of Smithville Church of God. The funeral will be Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at Smithville Church of God. Jeff Armstrong will officiate with burial in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Monday from 11:30 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until the service at 3:30 p.m. at the church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Casto and Josie Staley Puckett; husband, Glynn Allen Webb; brother, Morris Puckett and wife Donavee Puckett; brother-in-law, J.W. Pollard. She is survived by a son, Glenn Todd and wife Sharon Webb of Smithville. 86 year old William Herman Roller of Rock Island died Friday at River Park Hospital in McMinnville. He was a member of the New Union The Baptist Church and a nurseryman. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and he was a 32nd degree Mason. The funeral will be Sunday at 4:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Bransford England, Darrell Cantrell, and Junior Hibdon will officiate and burial will be in the Keltonburg Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 5:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until the service 4:00 p.m. Roller was preceded in death by his parents, Julius M. and Nora Ella Cantrell Roller; children, William Earl and Eddie Herman Roller; brothers, Jim and Obbie Roller; and sisters, Emily Caten and Nellie Roller.
