63 year old Larry Don Bratten of Liberty died Saturday at his residence. He was a member of the Salem Baptist Church and owner of the Liberty Machine Company. The funeral will be Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. at Salem Baptist Church. Don Hicks and Mark Wade will officiate and burial will be in Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday from noon until the service at 4:00 p.m. All visitation will be at the church. He was preceded in death by his mother, Anna Ruth Robinson Bratten. Survivors include two children, J.D. Bratten and companion Mollie Hendrixson of Liberty and Mary Ann and husband Dwayne Blair of Florida. A grandson, Gabriel Blair of Florida. Father, Frank Ray Bratten of Smithville. 81 year old Della Mai Poston of Smithville died Friday at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a Baptist and a retired employee of Hartman Luggage. The funeral will be Sunday at 4:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Sunday from10:00 a.m. until the service at 4:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Selmer and Betty Margaret Ferrell Hale; first husband, Arnold G. Murphy; son, William Murphy; two grandsons, Michael Murphy and Shannon Taylor; four brothers, L.W., Selmer, Harrison, and Ray Donald Hale; and two sisters, Lucille Ferrell and Daisy Murphy. Survivors include her husband, Charles Richard Poston of Smithville, Six daughters, Minnie Poss of Smithville, Frances and George Fincher of McMinnville, Dimple and Charles Blanchfield of Smithville, Donna and Mike Hewell of Smithville, Darlene Wooley and David Griffith of Gassaway, Denise Redmon and Jimbo Pack of Smithville. One son, Ernest Murphy of Smithville. Sixteen grandchildren, thirty one great grandchildren, and eight great great grandchildren. One sister, Beatrice and husband Kenneth Christine of Shop Springs. 86 year old Geraldine Farler of Lebanon died Thursday at Westmoreland Care and Rehab Center. She was a machine operator at Smithville shirt factory and a Baptist. The funeral will be Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Mike Clayborn will officiate with burial in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Saturday from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until the service. She was preceded in death by her parents, Julias Pirtle and Lodie Poss; husband, Joe Brown Farler; one daughter, Barbara Bogle. She is survived by one granddaughter, Kimberly Taylor of Lebanon; two great-grandchildren, Tre and Kristie Taylor of Lebanon. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Betty Nadine Winnard
Betty Nadine Winnard, age 94 of Gordonsville, TN passed away Thursday, August 9, 2012 at her residence.
Mrs. Winnard was born February 23, 1918 in Lancaster, TN the daughter of the late Mollie James Denney and James Everett Maynard. She married Aubrey Clay Winnard on December 2, 1936 and he preceded her in death on November 25, 1955. She was also preceded in death by Six Siblings; Robert Maynard, Eddie Lee Maynard, Elmer Maynard, John Maynard, Mildred Grantham, and Alene Fish. She worked for the Welsh Company and was a member of the Gordonsville United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Winnard is survived by her Son; Clay (Jeanne) Winnard of Cookeville, TN., Two Granddaughters; Angela (Bryant) Griffin of Smyrna, TN and Brittney (Karl) Radke of Chattanooga, TN. Two Great Granddaughters; Katie-Anne Griffin and Sarah-Beth Griffin.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Winnard are scheduled to be conducted Saturday, August 11, 2012 at 10AM at the Gordonsville Chapel of Bass Funeral Homes. Bro. Floyd Massey will officiate and Interment will follow in the Gordonsville Cemetery.
Visitation with the Winnard family will be held on Friday from 6PM to 9PM and on Saturday after 9AM until service time at 10AM.
Mary Lou Johnson
63 year old Mary Lou Johnson, born in Buffalo, New York, died Sunday at University Medical Center in Lebanon. A memorial service will be Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at her home on Round Top Road in Alexandria. Visitation will be Sunday from 11:00 a.m. until the service time at her home. She is survived by her husband, Graeme Johnson. Children, Vicki Schroeder and future husband, Chris Fikes of Las Vegas; Randy and wife Kim Schroeder of Antioch; Phillip and wife Sheryl Johnson of Las Vegas, Michael Johnson of Las Vegas, Jessica and husband Scott Garduno of California. Grandchildren, Conner Schroeder, Jordon, Brandon, Alexia, Jack, Tanner, and Tyler Johnson, and Aiden Garduno. Sisters, Janet Cruz and Sandra and husband Ron Matteson. She was preceded in death by her brother, George Kraft. 34 year old Jennifer Nicole Clark of Smithville died at her residence Wednesday. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church and an LPN at NHC Healthcare Center. The funeral will be Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. B.J. Thomason will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Max Cantrell and Chester Parsley. Survivors include her husband, William Alan Clark of Smithville. Three daughters, Dakota Lashey and husband Brady McGee, Leah Payton Clark, and Morgan Shayayne Clark all of Smithville. Parents, Ricky Dwayne and Maria Parsley and Tammy and Ronnie Mollinet. A grandchild, Lyren Clark of Smithville. One sister, Kristy Lynn and husband Chris Williams of Smithville. 91 year old Valeria Groom Evans of Liberty died Thursday morning at the Webb House Retirement Center. She was a homemaker and was a retired educator at DeKalb West School. She was also a member of Salem Baptist Church. The funeral will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Salem Baptist Church. Mark Wade will officiate and burial will be in Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the service time at 10:30 a.m. at Salem Baptist Church. Evans was preceded in death by her husband, John Odum Evans; parents, Nathaniel and Alta Powell Groom; six sisters, Hazel Sandlin, Mildred Groom, Avanell Fuson, Claudine Malone, Anita Pettway, Edwina Saddler; and a brother, Truitt Groom. 55 year old Ramon Beacham of Smithville died Tuesday at his residence. He was a former nurseryman with Guthrie Nursery. The funeral will be Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Mike Clayborn and Virgil Hibdon, Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Whorton Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from noon until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at 1:00 p.m. Beacham is preceded in death by his parents, Ervin and Jimmie Martin Beacham and a sister, Mary Ray Beacham. Survivors include three brothers, Jessie and wife Jan Beacham of Rock Island, Jimmy and wife Cindy Beacham of McMinnville, and Mark and wife Renee Beacham of Dowelltown. Three sisters, Judy Davidson of Pennsylvania, Vicky Vanatta and Barbara Beacham both of Dowelltown. Several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews all survive. 88 year old Dorothy Dean Odom of Smithville died Thursday at NHC Healthcare Center. She was a member of the New Home Baptist Church, a homemaker, and she worked at Texas Boot. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Junior Ralph will officiate and burial will be in Whorton Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 2:00 p.m. Odom was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Exum Driver Gibbs; her husband, Clayton Odom; a son, Earl Odom; and a sister, Lucille Henley. Survivors include children, Jack and wife Diane Odom of Morrison, Donna and husband Michael Terrell of Hermitage, Janice and husband John Pavlikninas and Kenneth Odom both of North Carolina. 96 year old Mary Elizabeth Grizzle of Liberty died Wednesday morning at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a Southern Baptist and member of the Eastern Star and the Liberty Senior Citizens Center. The funeral will be Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Don Mathis will officiate and burial will be in Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, J. Hugh and Alta Adamson; her husband, Clifton Grizzle; and a granddaughter, Jennifer Grizzle Graham. She is survived by a son, George and wife Wini Grizzle of Brentwood. A granddaughter, Angela and husband Paul Smilqius of Valparaiso, Indiana. Great grandchildren, Olivia and Evan Smilqius. Numerous nieces, nephews, and special friends also survive.
