Joann Marie Bretzlaff

72 year old Joann Marie Bretzlaff of Smithville died Saturday at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was formerly employed at Oak Wood Medical Center and attended the Keltonburg Missionary Baptist Church. The funeral will be Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Tom Hafstad and Lash Rice will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until the service at 3:00 p.m.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Garrett and Bertha Hafstad, and son, Jeffrey David Hargrave. She is survived by two sons, James Hargrave of Smithville and John and wife Cathy Hargrave of Louisiana. Eleven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Two brothers, Bob and wife Jerrie Hafstad of Michigan and Tom and wife Claudia Hafstad of Smithville. Two sisters, Rosemary and husband Mike Garcia of Michigan and Kathy and husband Lash Rice of Smithville. Frank Truman Davis

72 year old Frank Truman Davis of Smithville died Wednesday night at his residence. He was an insurance claims adjuster for over 30 years, having served for various companies. He was retired for 11 years. Davis graduated from Mansfield Senior High, Wooster College, and the Birmingham School of Law. He sat for and passed the Alabama Bar exam. Davis was a member of the Episcopal Church and he attended the Smithville United Methodist Church. A memorial service will be Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at the Smithville First United Methodist Church. Dr. John Carpenter will officiate. Visitation will be Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until 4:15 p.m. at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Another memorial service will be Tuesday, March 20 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Phillips Episcopal Church in Donelson. Visitation will be Monday night from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the church. Davis was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd Truman and Lillian Mae Davis. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Becky Reis Davis of Smithville. Two daughters, Mary and husband Chris Brady of Nashville and Sally and husband La’Mar Franklin of Smyrna. Five grandchildren, Erin, Shannon and Dillon Brady all of Nashville, Leya and Isaiah Franklin both of Smyrna. One sister, Kathy Davis of Nashville. Two sisters-in-law, Barbara Parks of Utah and Barbara Thompson of Smithville. Brother-in-law, Sterling “Buddy” Battle of Baxter, Brother-in-law, Bill and wife Enid Reis of Mansfield, Ohio. Vernon Edward Hyde

86 year old Vernon Edward Hyde of Knoxville and a longtime resident of Smithville died Wednesday at his home. He was a member of the Smithville First Baptist Church, the American Legion, and retired teachers. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a teacher, coach, and realtor. The funeral will be Friday at 3:00 p.m. at the Smithville First Baptist Church. Mark Bass will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Friday from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the church. Hyde was preceded in death by his parents, William Edward and Ella Dodd Hyde; a daughter, Teresa Faye Hyde; two brothers, Garnett and Ray Hyde; and a grandson-in-law, Greg Van Dette. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Carnell Roy Hyde of Knoxville. Children, Paula and husband David Crossley of Talbott, Rita and husband Keith White of Brentwood, and Eddie and wife Mary Hyde of Knoxville. Seven grandchildren, Carrrie Van Dette, Connie Crossley, Lindsay and husband Bill Cadaret, Andrew Crossley, Mollie Hyde, Abigail Hyde, and Casey Hyde. Three great grandchildren, Joseph Edward Cadaret, Garrett James Van Dette, Tristen Van Dette. One brother, Howard and wife Edna Hyde of California. 83 year old Lola Mai Ashburn of Dowelltown died Tuesday at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a Baptist and a retired shirt factory worker. The funeral will be Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Leonard Herman and Charles Bogle will officiate and burial will be in Whorton Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Elsie Bogle; her husband, William Sampson Ashburn; three brothers, Lem, Bill, and Velmer Bogle; and two sisters, Pauline Sandlin and Emmie Herman. 67 year old Clayton Leon Houser of Smithville died Sunday at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville. He was a member of the Christian Church and he served in the U.S. Army. Houser was a member of the VFW and he was in construction. A memorial service will be Friday, March 16 at 1:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dale Leroy and Bessie Pearl Siefert Houser. Survivors include three children, Ryan Houser and Tony Houser both of Indiana and Ashley Guess of Smithville. Three sisters, Ruby Smith, Doris Shepard, and Nancy Isaacs all of Indiana. Three brothers, Richard Houser, Danny Houser, and John Houser all of Indiana. 97 year old Clara Taylor Fuson of Smithville died Tuesday at her residence. She was a Baptist and a retired machine operator at the shirt factory. The funeral will be Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Terry Fesler and Mike Carpenter will officiate and burial will be in the Mount Holly Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Horace and Nola Taylor; her husband, James Fuson; four brothers, Hobert Taylor, H.D, Taylor, Lloyd Taylor, and Carlin (Tye-Cobb) Taylor; and a sister, Ina Mae Trapp. Survivors include two sons, James and wife Barbara Fuson of Nashville and Wayne and wife Peggy Fuson of Smithville. 88 year old Brown Page of Smithville died Saturday at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was a retired employee of the Smithville Concrete Company, a U.S. Navy Veteran, and a member of the Church of God. The funeral will be Monday at 10:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Virgil Hibdon, Jr. will officiate and burial will be in Whorton Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and Monday from 8:00 a.m until the service at 10:00 a.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Mary Cripps Page; a sister, Wilma Vanatta; and a niece, Faye Pedigo. 36 year old Billy Paul Mooneyham of Smithville died Friday at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was a self employed painter and a member of the Believers Tabernacle. The funeral will be Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Sam Kinzer will officiate and burial will be in the Centerhill Cemetery in Cannon County. Visitation will be Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his father, Arvil D. Mooneyham and two brothers, Dwight and Joseph Mooneyham. Survivors include three daughters, Kayla Nicole, Katie Leigh, and Carrie Suzanne Mooneyham; a grandson, Jayden Miguel Mooneyham; and mother, Thelma Mooneyham all of Smithville. Two brothers, Michael and wife Deborah Mooneyham of Woodbury and Christopher Mooneyham of Smithville. Two sisters, Vickie Marsh of Woodbury and Veronica Mooneyham of Smithville. 81 year old James Riley Fisher died Friday at NHC of Smithville. He was a Baptist, member of the VFW and American Legion, an Army veteran of the Korean war and a carpenter with TVA for 15 years. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bobby Thomason will officiate and burial will be in the Banks Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be Saturday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Fisher was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Fish; mother, Alice Fish; and grandmother, Maggie Fish. Survivors include three step daughters, Janice Fish and husband David Stewart, Tanna and husband Tony Harris; and Judy Carol Fish; and one step-son, Danny and wife Regina Fish all of Smithville.
