Six week old infant Brookelyn Keanna Brazelton of Smithville died Tuesday at DeKalb Community Hospital. The family attended the Real Life Community Church. The funeral will be Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Don Davidson and Al Mahan will officiate. Burial will be in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from noon until the service at 1:00 p.m. The child is survived by her parents, Ed and Jessica Brazelton of Smithville. Grandparents, Carolyn Root of Smithville, Steve Root of Michigan, and Katie Mae Readus of Shelbyville. Great grandparents, Helan Dougherty and Vera Gwilliams of Michigan. Three brothers, Marcus and KeShawn Brazelton both of Smithville and Cameron Brazelton of Texas. One sister, Leslie McKinnon of Tullahoma. A niece, Kaydence McKinnon of Tullahoma. Aunts and uncles, Phil Root and Matt and Alisha Summers all of Smithville and Steve and Saerica Root of Cookeville along with many other aunts, uncles, and cousins. Ralph Lee Griffith
90 year old Ralph Lee Griffith of Liberty died Monday at a Nashville Hospice. He was born in DeKalb County. A farmer, Griffith was known to some as Santa Clause, the Pumpkin man, and to others as their school bus driver. The funeral will be Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. at Salem Baptist Church. Mark Wade and Thurman Seber will officiate and burial will be in Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria and Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until the service at the church. Griffith was preceded in death by his parents, Dawson Reed and Fannie Groom Griffith; and his wife, Sally Corley Griffith. Survivors include a daughter, LeAnn Vandergriff of Liberty. Two sons, Wayne Griffith and Ken and wife Jeanie Griffith all of Liberty. Grandchildren, Kristin and husband Jeremy Hutchings, Brittany Vandergriff, Jonathan and wife Carrie Griffith, Laura and husband Phillip Metcalf, Brent and wife Cheri Griffith, and Holly and husband Johnny McCrary. Ten great grandchildren and a brother, William Paul and wife Mary Etta Griffith of Warren, Michigan. Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria is in charge of the arrangements. James Felix Waggoner
55 year old James Felix Waggoner of Smithville died Saturday at his residence. He was an employee of Simpson Construction and a member of the Johnson’s Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. The funeral will be Monday at 4:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. David Wilson will officiate. Visitation will be Sunday from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 4:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe Felix and Opal Odell Petty Waggoner. Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Sherian Waggoner of Smithville. Three daughters, Sherry and husband Bobby Maxwell and Sarah and husband Anthony Cross all of Sparta; and Shelly and husband Jonathan Womack of McMinnville. One son, Jamie and wife Miranda Waggoner of Smithville. One brother, Jesse and wife Rita Waggoner of Carthage. Three sisters, Dorothy and husband Harold Bratcher and Opal and husband Danny Parker all of Smithville and Judy Waggoner of Carthage. Twelve grandchildren, Dakota, Darren, Lilly, Ben, Ariel, Dee Dee, Alora, Damian, (Bo Bo), Will, Martin, Chalee, John Collin and several cousins, nieces, and nephews survive. 79 year old Mary Ruth Judkins Washer died Friday at NHC Healthcare Center of Smithville of an extended illness. She was self employed, housekeeper, and a member of the Church of God. The funeral will be Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at the Jacobs Pillar United Methodist Church. Royce Martin will officiate and burial will be in the Gordonsville Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from noon until 3:00 p.m. at the Jacobs Pillar United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Thomas Washer; and parents, Cordie Judkins and Robbi Hunt. High Funeral Home in McMinnville is in charge of the arrangements.
George Marcus Boren
62 year old George Marcus Boren of McMinnville died Thursday at the Raintree Manor in McMinnville. He served in the U.S. Army, an employee in the McMinnville Sanitation Department, and he was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church. A Graveside service will be Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the Mount View Cemetery. Michael Hale will officiate. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred Willard and Maudie Ann Hale Boren. He was survived by his wife, Judy Boren of McMinnville. Five children, Wendy Conners of Smithville, Marcus Boren of Grundy County, Gregory Boren of Grundy County, Susan Lehman of McMinnville and Melissa Lassiter of McMinnville. Eleven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and two sisters, Bernita Myers of McMinnville and Cathy Cox of McMinnville. Josephine Phyllis Pavone
62 year old Josephine Phyllis Pavone of Smithville died Wednesday at her residence.
The funeral for Ms. Pavone will be Saturday at 5:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Following the service, the body will be cremated. Visitation will be Friday from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. A nurse by profession, she was preceded in death by her parents, Phillip and Mary Agnes Michela Pavone; a sister, Gloria Engelhardt; and a brother, Frank Pavone.
She is survived by children, Kari and husband Jacob Ashford of Liberty, Joseph LaRocco of Melrose Park, Illinois and Patricia and husband Mike Saylor of Bartlett, Illinois. Grandchildren, Michael Saylor, Antonio LaRocco, Claudia Ashford, and Taylor Ashford. Sisters, Darlene and Rosemary Pavone, Geraldine Lipkie and brothers, Anthony and Tommy Pavone.

60 year old David Ray Davenport of Liberty died Wednesday at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville. He was a member of Sycamore Baptist Church and a truck driver for H and D Trucking. The funeral will be Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Tim Pack and Tim Pelham will officiate with burial in Sycamore Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 2:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his father, Vess Davenport. He is survived by his wife Jan Davenport of Liberty; daughter, Lindsey Davenport of Liberty; grandson, Preslee Davenport Merriman of Liberty. Mother, Maglene Davenport of Gassaway. Four sisters, Brenda and husband David Dodd of of Gassaway, Darlene and and husband Mark Gilliam of Lebanon, Regina and husband Stephen Mayo of Bradyville and Pam Duggin of Gassaway. 75 year old Mary Frances Whitefield of Smithville died Wednesday at River Park Hospital. She was a member of Mt. Herman Baptist Church, a homemaker and formerly worked at the shirt factory. The funeral will be Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Tommy Taylor will officiate and burial will be at DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 3:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Mary Emma Carter; daughter, Frances Denise Whitefield, and sister, Margie Elizabeth Carter. She is survived by her husband, Travis Whitefield of Smithville; one daughter, Sharon and husband Rick Yocum of Sparta; two granddaughters, Amy and Becky Yocum both of Sparta. One great granddaughter, Harliee Yocum of Sparta. One brother, Eugene and wife Joy Faye Carter of Smithville. Two brothers-in-law, James Whitefield of Baxter and Willis Whitefield of Smithville. Ozro K. Franklin
98 year old Ozro K. Franklin of the Blue Springs Community died Wednesday at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was a member of Pine Crest Baptist Church in Johnson City, Tn. and a regular attendee of the First Baptist Church in Smithville, and a member of the American Legion. He was a heavily decorated 22 year veteran of the U.S. Army, 17 of which served overseas. He participated at Normandy on the second day of combat, and went all the way through Europe to the Rhine River while helping liberate one prison camp, surrounded in the Battle of the Bulge, and also served two tours of duty in the Korean War, and also spent time in Panama and the Phillipines. He was also a retired ETSU police officer. The funeral will be Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Tim Singleton will officiate with burial in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00p.m. and Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the service time at 1:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, General and Julia Berry Franklin; wife, Lydia Mae Franklin; two sisters, Earlene Carver and Ivory Yates, and three brothers, Ronald, Conley, and Donald Franklin. He is survived by one son, Benjamin G. Franklin and wife Linda; one granddaughter, Misty and husband Daniel Agee, and special caregiver, Pat Arnold, all of Smithville. 65 year old Frank Phillip Pavone of Smithville died Wednesday at DeKalb Community Hospital. He served in in the U.S. Marine Corps, and was a member of the DAV,and the VFW. He was a Catholic. The funeral will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Father David Cooney and Bob Neener will officiate. Burial will be in DeKalb Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be Friday from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Phillip and Mary Agnes Michela Pavone, and a sister, Gloria Engelhardt. Another sister, Josephine Pavone is also deceased. He is survived by his wife, JoAnn Pavone of Smithville; sons, Allen Tidwell, Frank Pavone, Jr., Phillip Pavone, Patrick Pavone, and Thomas Pavone, all of Illionois. Ten grandchildren.
