Phillip Stanley Walls
Phillip Stanley Walls age 68 of Smithville, passed away Thursday, June 8, 2017 at his residence. He was born March 30, 1949 to his parents, the late Roy V. and Nannie L. Adcock Walls. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 7 brothers and sisters, Janie Woodlee, Tommy Walls, Clarence Walls, Gene Walls, James Howell Walls, Ann Farless and Thelma Webb. Phillip was a nursery worker. Survivors include 2 sons, Phillip Stanley Walls, II and Cody Nicholas Walls both of Smithville; 2 brothers, Dan and Bobby Walls both of Smithville; 5 sisters, Rita Walls, Ellen Clayton, Kathy Scott and Verna Green all of Smithville and Wanda Hollis of McMinnville; special friend, Tracey Minnear of Smithville and several nieces and nephews. Phillip’s family has honored his request to be cremated and a Memorial Service will be 5:30 PM, Thursday, June 15, 2017 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Michael Hullett and Michael Hale officiating and there will be a private family burial in Hullett Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Thursday 12 Noon until the time of the memorial service at 5:30 PM. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
William Randel Eaton
Mr. William Randel Eaton, age 35 of Alexandria, and better known as “Little Randy” passed from this life on June 6, 2017 unexpectedly at his home.
Randy was born July 6, 1981 in Carthage, TN, the son of Randy O. Eaton and Debbie J. Eaton. He was preceded in death by paternal grandparetns; Ed and Sue Eaton, maternal step-grandfather; Roy L. Tripp, and Uncle; Timmy Cline. He was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon.
Mr. Eaton is survived by Mother; Debbie Jo Eaton of Alexandria, TN, and Father; Randy Eaton of Alexandria, TN. Brother; Jerimey Howard of Alexandria, TN. Nieces; Kaia and Abegayle Howard of Alexandria, TN. Grandmother; Mary K. Tripp of Alexandria, TN. Uncles; Edward (Linda) Eaton of Texarkana, TX, and Mike Eaton of Alexandria, TN.
Funeral Services for Mr. Eaton are scheduled to be conducted at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Alexandria, TN, on Friday, June 9, 2017 at 1PM with Bro. Dan Malett and Bro. Matt Smart officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery.
Visitation with the Eaton family will be held at the Avant Funeral Home on Thursday from 12 Noon to 8PM and at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church on Friday from 10AM until service time at 1PM.

Eleanor Smart Bontrager
Eleanor Smart Bontrager age 96 of Smithville, passed away Tuesday night, June 6, 2017 at Woodbury Health & Rehab. She was born October 17, 1920 to her parents, the late Jesse and Catherine VanValkenburg Smart. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Amos R. Bontrager; 1 son, Michael Charles Bontrager; 1 great-grandson, David Alan Fugle; 8 brothers and sisters, Floyd Smart, Harriet Mills, Ethel Seaburg, Leo Smart, Leon Smart, Jesse Smart, Louise Calnan, Kenneth Smart. Ms. Eleanor was a member of the Darien Methodist Church in New York and attended the Smithville First United Methodist Church. She was the owner of Dolly’s Beauty Salon in New York and was a member of the Busy Bee’s in Smithville. Survivors include 3 children, Eugene A. (Margaret) Bontrager of Darien Center, NY, Caroly (Frank) Mazurik of Watertown and Lynn (Patricia) Bontrager of Carthage; 20 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be 2 PM Sunday, June 11, 2017 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Michael Hale officiating and interment to follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be on Saturday 4 PM until 8 PM and Sunday 12 Noon until the time of the service at 2 PM. In addition to flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or to the charity of your choice, in memory of Ms. Eleanor. 77 year old Lorenea Evans of Smithville passed away Monday at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville. She was a Christian. The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Bonham Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-8 p.m. and Friday from noon until the service at 2 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Geneva Hall Morris and Granddaughter, Jennifer Garrett. Survivors include her husband, Lawrence Evans of Smithville. Two sons, Garey and Beverly Evans and Glenn and Jenny Evans of Smithville. Two daughters, Gena and Dimitri Wotchinski of Montreal and Gayle and Michael Garrett of Indiana. Grandchildren, Bobbie Sue and Tim Wilson of Smithville, Jason and Maday Demick, Joe and Mercedes Demick, and Jasse and Desiree Demick all of Florida, Joyce Garrett and Justin Garrett of Indiana. Great grandchildren, Brooklynn, Nathaniel and Robert Brantley Wilson of Smithville, Jayden Garrett of Indiana and Jaxon and Braxton Demick of Florida. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins survive. Shirley Ann Dunn
80 year old Shirley Ann Dunn of Smithville passed away Tuesday at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital. She was a florist at the Flower Box and a member of the Brethren in Christ. The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Larry Steffee will officiate and burial will be in the Ponder Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. and Thursday from 8 a.m. until the service at 11 a.m. She was preceded in death by her parents; Abe and Clara Colwell; unnamed still born twins; brothers, Willie Abe Colwell, Austin Colwell, and Lynn Colwell. Survivors include her husband of 63 years, James Dunn of Smithville. Two sisters, Ella Rhea and Tommy Hale of Alexandria and Sandra and Roger Kirby of Cookeville. Sister-in-law, Brenda Colwell of Smithville. Brother-in-law, Harvey Dunn of Smithville. Eight nieces and nephews, Billy and Greg Arnold of Elmwood, Brenda Robinson of Smithville, Trent and Chad Colwell of Smithville, Gabe Colwell of Cookeville, Barry Colwell of Sparta, and Alan Kirby of Cookeville. Danny Bishop
Mr. Danny Bishop, age 74, of Brush Creek, TN, passed away Sunday, June 4, 2017.
Mr. Bishop was born November 15, 1942 in Erin, TN, the son of the late James Boyd Bishop and Ida Beatrice Daniel Bishop. He was also preceded in death by Brothers; James Woodrow Bishop, Preston Alonzo Bishop, and Conrad Glen Bishop. He married Deborah Malone on January 27, 1997. Danny drove a truck for 47 years. He worked as a sharecropper with Senator Albert Gore, Sr., and drove for C.E. Hackett, Senator Gore, and later for Performance Food Group for nearly thirty years. He was a member of the Carthage Benevolent Lodge #14 F&AM, being raised to the degree of Master Mason on November 30, 1976. Mr. Bishop was also a member of the Al Menah Shrine Temple in Lebanon, TN. He was of the Baptist Faith.
Mr. Bishop is survived by his Wife; Debbie Malone Bishop of Brush Creek, TN. Two Daughters; Sharon Glover of South Carthage, TN, and Angela (Gale) Sanders of Lewisburg, TN. Three Grandchildren; Brian (Jennifer) Dillehay, Andrea Glover, and Megan (Chris) Watson. Four Great-Grandchildren; Ava, Ethan, Malorie, and Owen. Two Step Great-Grandchildren; Joshua and Christopher. Brother; Wayne (Paulette) Bishop of Maggart, TN, and Minnie Evelyn (Roger) Carpenter of Crossville, TN. Several Nieces and Nephews also survive.
Funeral Services for Mr. Bishop are scheduled to be conducted from the Chapel of Avant Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at 2PM with Bro. Ronnie Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Brush Creek Memorial Gardens. Masonic Funeral will be held on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at 7PM.
Visitation with the Bishop family will be held at the Avant Funeral Home on Tuesday from 1PM to 8PM and on Wednesday from 10AM until service time at 2PM.

Mary Lavenia Braswell Threadgill age 89 of Nashville and a native of DeKalb County, passed away Friday afternoon, June 22017 at Creekside Health and Rehab in Madison. She was born March 22, 1928 to her parents, the late Clifton and Josie Hullett Braswell. in addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Phil Threadgill; daughter, Donna Arnold. Survivors include 2 daughters, Nina (Marlin) Zweep of Colorado and Pam Beeler of Nashville; 1 sister, Francis McBride of Hermitage; 2 grandsons, Patrick Isabell and Matthew (Sandra) Beeler; 1 granddaughter, Brittney (Josh) Kincaid; 4 great-grandchildren; 2 nieces. Funeral services will be 1 PM Monday, June 5, 2017 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Michael Hale officiating and interment to follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be on Sunday 1PM until 5 PM and Monday 10:AM until the time of the service at 1 PM. 63 year old Patsy Winfree of Lebanon passed away Tuesday in Lebanon. She was a retired nurse and a member of Friendship Baptist Church. The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bro. Brad Rogers will officiate and burial will be in the Brush Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9 to 11 a.m. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley Winfree and mother, Dorothy Irene Smith Brewington. Survivors include two daughters, Christie and Bobby Williams of Lebanon and Beth and Kevin Kent of Dowelltown. Father, Matthew Brewington of Lebanon. One brother, Tommy and Rhonda Brewington of Lebanon. Five grandchildren, Jacob, Adam, and Ashten Willimas of Lebanon and Wesley and Kaylee Kent of Dowelltown. Aunt, Martha Brewington of Lebanon.
