74 year old Betty Jean Murphy of Sparta died Monday at Saint Thomas Hospital. She was a retired machine operator with Dowelltown Manufacturing and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ. The funeral will be Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Johnny Smartt will officiate and burial will be in the Jennings Cemetery in Statesville. Visitation will be Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Lily Murphy; her husband, Charlie Murphy; a daughter, Lois Smartt; five brothers; and a sister. Survivors include four daughters, Patricia Murphy of Sparta, Darlene and husband Andrew Murphy, Charlene Mashburn and Regina Hannah all of Smithville. Seven sons, Brad and wife Teresa Murphy of Sparta, Audie and wife Evelyn Murphy of Madisonville, Billy and wife Karen Murphy of Walling, David and wife Tammy Murphy of McMinnville, Steve and wife Vanessa Murphy of Woodbury, Micha and wife Teresa Murphy, and Samuel and wife Miranda Murphy all of Smithville. 86 year old Sylvia Jewel West, a native of Smithville and resident of Port Orange, Florida, died Friday at Daytona Beach Florida. She was a Christian. West also worked in accounting. A graveside service will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Whorton Springs Cemetery. Michael Hale will officiate. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jewel Brown and Covar Maxwell West; and brothers, Ralph and Jack West. Survivors include a son, Dr. Michael West Shreeve of Port Orange, Florida. A daughter, Debra Gustafson of Shelton, Washington. Grandsons, Michael W. Shreeve, Jr. of Lithia, Florida and Kiley Gustafson of Seattle, Washington. 78 year old Felix Brown Webb of Smithville died Saturday at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was a retired heavy equipment operator for the state of Tennessee Highway Department. Webb was also an Army veteran and a Baptist. The funeral will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in the New Union Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 11:00 a.m. Webb was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Lee and Nora Ada Cantrell Webb; and a sister, Geneva Webb Turner. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Bettye Blankenship Webb of Smithville. One son, Kevin Webb of McMinnville. 49 year old Timothy “Tadpole” Adcock of Smithville died Friday. The funeral will be Monday at 11:00 a.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Don Davidson will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 11:00 a.m. He attended Center Hill Baptist Church, served in the U.S. Navy, and he was a former member of the DeKalb County Commission. Adcock was also a nurseryman. Adcock was preceded in death by his parents, Auvil D. and Polly Carter Adcock and a brother, Randall Adcock. He was a truck driver for the Sussex County, New Jersey Road Department and a member of the Church of the Nazarene. She was a member of the Dowelltown Baptist Church and a retired employee of the DeKalb County School System. The funeral will be Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Betty Mitchell Elledge; her husband, Willie Tom Davis; and a brother, Joe Howard Elledge.
