Charles Delbert Johnson

71 year old Charles Delbert Johnson of Sparta died Wednesday at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was a retired barber. A memorial service will be Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Freddie Copeland will officiate and burial will be in the Johnson’s Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 1:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie Roscoe and Linnie Frances LaFever Johnson; two sisters, Juanita and Donna Johnson; and two brothers, Jessie Paul and Johnny E. Johnson. Survivors include a son, Timothy Joseph Johnson of Murfreesboro. One daughter, Susan and husband Mark Wilson of Smithville. A granddaughter, Amanda Wilson of Murfreesboro. Two sisters, Rose and husband George Daniels of Sparta and Wanda and husband Ben Wright of Michigan. Three brothers, Houston and wife Jean Johnson of Sparta, Walter and wife Jo Johnson of Smithville, and Buel and wife Sarah Johnson of Spencer. Gary Lee Lautzenheiser

66 year old Gary Lee Lautzenheiser of Sparta died Friday, July 8th. He was born in Canton, Ohio to Ralph E. & Betty (McKeen) Lautzenheiser.
Lautzenheiser graduated from Louisville High School in 1962, worked on the family dairy farm until 1964, then was employed at the Ohio Power Company (AEP) Canton, Ohio for the next 32 years as a Lineman. He retired in 2000 and was employed part-time by Constitution Land Surveying of Louisville, Ohio. He resided in Louisville till 2008, then moved to Sparta.
Survivors include his wife, Geraldine Kiko Lautzenheiser of Sparta. Parents, Betty McKeen and Ralph E. Lautzenheiser of Louisville, Ohio. Five children, Tonya and Michael Heckendorn of Goose Creek, South Carolina; Brian and Jennifer Lautzenheiser of Warner Robins, Georgia; Mark Lautzenheiser of Sparta; Samuel and Whitney Lautzenheiser of Mt. Gilead, Ohio; and Dawn Lautzenheiser of Sparta. A sister, Barbara and husband Rick Kidwell of Findlay, Ohio. A brother, Dale and wife Debbie Lautzenheiser of Louisville, Ohio. Seven grandchildren, Derek, Samantha, Dillon, Payton, Heath and twins – Lila and Jackson
Memorial services will be held at the Lautzenheiser home in Sparta on Tuesday, July
19th at 4pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Chris Elliott Fund for
Glioblastoma Brain Cancer Research, or The MS Society, under the name of Dawn
Lautzenheiser.

59 year old Ronald Wayne Bates of Smithville died Tuesday, July 12 at his residence. He was an employee of Kingston Timer. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 23 at 2:00 p.m. at the Sink Creek Baptist Church. Kenneth Johnson will officiate. Visitation will be Saturday from noon until the service at 2:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by parents, Homer Lee and Juanita Johnson Bates; and two sisters, Sharon Whiteworth and Kay Pack. Survivors include his wife, Vickie Bates of Smithville. A daughter, Angel and husband Charles Burrage, III of Smithville. A grandson, William Cody Burrage of Smithville. Kathy Jane Winchester-Vardy

43 year old Kathy Jane Winchester-Vardy of Dowelltown died Saturday night at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville. She was a homemaker, retired director of the DeKalb County Library, and a member of the Elizabeth Chapel Baptist Church. The funeral will be Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bill Robertson will officiate and burial will be in the Banks Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her father, Frank Winchester; a sister, Jackie Marie Sosa; a nephew, Christopher Rose; and a niece, Kelly Neal. Survivors include her husband, Mike Vardy of Dowelltown. Her mother, Mary Clark Winchester of Smithville. A sister, Gail Rose of Alexandria. Niece, Renee Riddle of Smithville. Nephews, Daniel Rose of Alexandria, Jaycen Neal of McMinnville, and Michael Noe Sosa; and great nephew, Ethan Winchester both of Smithville. 85 year old Raymond Caldwell of Smithville died Friday at the Alvin C. York Medical Center in Murfreesboro. He was retired from the City of Smithville and he attended the Pomeroy Chapel Brethren in Christ. The funeral will be Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bryan Jones and Dwight Knowles will officiate and burial will be in Whorton Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.; Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.; and Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 2:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Jacob and Lena Ferrell Caldwell; two daughters, Tammy and Melissa Caldwell; four brothers, J.W., Wade, Norman, and Lonnie Caldwell; and two sisters, Nannie Mae Hale and Lois Moon. Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Caldwell. One daughter, Patricia and husband Donnie Bratcher of Smithville. Three sons, Jimmy and wife Debbie Reeder of Paris, Frankie and wife Reta Caldwell and Nelson and wife Linda Caldwell all of Smithville. Eleven grandchildren, Shayne and T.J. Gladys “Babe” Wilson

91 year old Gladys “Babe” Wilson of Smithville died Friday at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a Seventh Day Adventist and a homemaker. A graveside service will be Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Whorton Springs Cemetery. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Joe Wilson of Smithville. Three sons, Danny and wife Judy Wilson of Smithville, Tom and wife Peggy Wilson of Chattanooga, and Bob and wife Debbie Wilson of Mount Juliet. One daughter, Bonnie and husband Eddie Smith of Texas. Eight grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren survive. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Peggy A. Bennett Parker

72 year old Peggy A. Bennett Parker of Sparta died Thursday morning at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Parker was born June 17, 1939 in Hacksneck, Virginia to the late William “Bitty” Bennett and Ventrice Shelton Watson. She is also preceded in death by a daughter Judy Faye Parker and daughter-in-law Anita Kay Parker.
Survivors include her husband of 52 years Rev. Irving D. Parker, Sr. of Sparta

24 year old Andy James Estes died on Monday, June 20.. He was a son, brother, grandson, nephew, uncle, and friend. He is survived by his mother, Christine Estes and her signficant other, Dan Brownell; sister, Teresa Allen and her husband, Jared Allen; brother, Brandon Estes and his significant other, Kristen Blanchard; maternal grandparents, Andy and Sandy Pirnik; paternal grandmother, Monte Estes; five nephews, and many extended family members. He was preceded in death by his father, J. Roger Estes and paternal grandfather, Bass Estes.

68 year old Grady Melvin Ray, Sr. of Smithville died Monday at his residence. He was retired from A.D. Smith Electrical Motors and a member of the New Union The Baptist Church. Visitation will be Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 2:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Avis Novella Dunham Ray and a brother-in-law, Paul Blankenship. Williams Overlook at the Tennessee Tech University Craft Center. Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Hall of Cookeville. Three daughters, Leslie and husband Tony Casilli of New York, Shauna and husband Ben Tessea of Canada and Jamie Dalton of Canada. Two step children, Joseph Hall of Smithville and Stephanie Whitson of Smyrna. Mother-in-law, Nell Hall of Smithville. Four step grandchildren, five brothers and four sisters also survive.
