54 year old Danny Paul Culwell of Smithville died Saturday at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville. He was a member of the Old Fashion Freewill Baptist Church and a nurseryman. The funeral will be Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel . Bernard Houk, Jim Tollison and Tom Fittis will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Monday from noon until 9:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 11:30 a.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fermon Brown and Ravanell Judkins Culwell, and a nephew, Wesley Jones. He is survived by his wife, Debra Jones Culwell of Smithville; two children, Tommy and wife Erin Culwell of Smithville, and Christy and husband Wayne Newby of McMinnville. Two grandchildren, Austin Newby and Annabella Culwell, and soon arriving grandson, Trigg Culwell. Two brothers-in-law, Carlton and Jeff Jones of Smithville. Several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Betty Ann Martin
62 year old Betty Ann Martin of Smithville died Saturday at Baptist Hospital in Nashville. She was a member of the Smithville First Baptist Church, a registered nurse, and a volunteer with Haven of Hope. The funeral will be Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Mark Bass will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Monday from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and from 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Visitation Tuesday will be from noon until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carlton R. and Mary Elizabeth Gomer Yates and a sister, Mary Garner. Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Jim Martin of Smithville. Two sons, John Martin of Mount Juliet and Jay and his wife Kim Martin of Old Hickory. One grandson, Noah Martin. 57 year old Terry Wayne Terrell of Chattanooga died Wednesday at Erlanger Medical Center. He was owner of TWT Trucking Company and a Baptist. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Justin Terrell will offciate. A graveside service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. He was preceded in death by his father, Bernice E. Terrell; grandparents, Robert R. and Lucille Herndon; and John H. and Arlena Terrell; and his step-father, W.C. Crook. Survivors include a daughter, Julie Ann and her husband, Charles Puryear of Memphis. A son, John Matthew Terrell of Chattanooga. His mother, Doris Herndon Terrell of Smithville. A brother, David and wife Vicky Terrell of Smithville. Two nephews, Roth and wife Jessica Terrell of Smithville, and Justin and wife Emily Terrell of Fairburn, Georgia. 85 year old Carrie Mai Hayes of Algood died Sunday at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. The funeral will be Thursday at noon at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Algood Heritage Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until the service time. 85 year old Mildred Louise Bass died Wednesday at NHC Healthcare in Smithville. The body is at Avant Funeral Home where the service will be Friday at 1:00 p.m. Matt Long and Bobby Colvert will officiate and burial will be in Salem Cemetery in Liberty. The Bass family will receive friends at Avant Funeral Home on Friday from noon until the service at 1:00 p.m. She was born in Dowelltown, the daughter of the late Lillian Corley and Lannis Archie Bass and she was a sister to the late Thurman Oakley Bass, Sarah Avant, Clara Sanders, and Bessie Lee Colvert. She was a native of Dowelltown and a resident of NHC of Smithville. She is survived by a sister, Martha Corley Bass Banks of Dowelltown along with numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral will be Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the Allen’s Chapel United Methodist Church. James Hayes and Phil Tollett will officiate and burial will be in Whorton Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from noon until the service at 1:00 p.m. at the church. 78 year old James “Jim” Puckett of Smithville died Wednesday at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and a member of the Church of Christ. The funeral will be Friday at 12 noon at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bill Fowler will officiate and burial will be in the Ponder Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. and Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the service at noon. He was preceded in death by his parents, Othel Lee and Lovie Lunsford Puckett and a brother, Jerry Puckett. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Puckett; a son, Jason and his wife Terre Puckett; and a grandson, Daniel Puckett all of Smithville.
