41 year old Tina Denise Dorton of Smithville died Wednesday at St. Thomas Hospital. She was a cook at Heartland Cafe and a member of the Elizabeth Chapel Baptist Church. The funeral will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bill Robertson will officiate and burial will be in the Nickell Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 11:00 a.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Alice Marie Luther Dorton. Survivors include a daughter, Allison Vance; two sons, Jonathon and wife Rebecca Byford and Brandon Byford. Seven grandchildren, Tyler Funk, Jayden, Skylar, Autumn, Jazmine, and Trinity Byford, and Makya Edge all of Smithville. Two brothers, Tommy Griffin of Smithville and Tony and wife Teresa Griffin of Greenbrier. Lois Frances Murphy

56 year old Lois Frances Murphy of Smithville died Wednesday at NHC Healthcare Center. Born in Wilson County, she was a caregiver and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ. The funeral will be Friday at 2:00 p.m. at Hunter Funeral Home in Watertown. Johnny Smartt will officiate and burial will be in the Jennings Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from noon until 8:00 p.m. and prior to the service on Friday. She was preceded in death by her father, Charlie Fisher Murphy. Murphy is survived by a son, Stephen Nathaniel Smartt of Seattle, Washington. A grandson, Laszlo Smartt. Her mother, Betty Jean Murphy Wosyluk of Sparta. Steven Bradley Hildreth

46 year old Steven Bradley Hildreth of Smithville died Wednesday at DeKalb Community Hospital. Born in McMinnville, he was a Baptist and employed in computer technical support with the FedEx Corporation. The funeral will be Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of McMinnville Funeral Home. Christine Archer will officiate and burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery at Barren Fork. The Hildreth family will receive friends Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and again on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at McMinnville Funeral Home. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, John and Oleda Hildreth; maternal grandfather, Dixie Hale; and a brother, Michael Hildreth. Survivors include daughters, Tarrayn Hildreth and Kaylyn Hildreth; a son, Matthew Hildreth and the mother of his children, Dana Dalton Hildreth all of Collierville. 84 year old Birchie Geneva Jeffries of Smithville died Monday at NHC Healthcare Center. She was the retired owner of Birchie’s Sweet Shop and a member of the Elizabeth Chapel Baptist Church. The funeral will be Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bill Robertson and Virgil Hibdon, Jr. will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Dossie Adcock Young; six brothers, Greg, George, Orvin, Bill, J.T., and Charlie Young; four sisters, Emma Smith, Rosha Henderson, Ola Haley, and Sirtie Orrick; and a son-in-law, Johnny Williams. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Pam Turner of Baxter. A daughter, Joannie Williams of Dowelltown. 98 year old Toy Alton Nixon of Murfreesboro and a long time resident of the Temperance Hall community died Sunday at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was a member of the Temperance Hall United Methodist Church, a farmer, a Mason, and member of DeKalb Lodge #358. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Dickie Johnson will officiate and burial will be in the Baird Memorial Cemetery at Hickman. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 11:00 a.m. A Masonic service will be held Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. Nixon was preceded in death by his parents, Bob Neal and Lula Tisdale Nixon; his wife, Clara Nixon; five brothers, Finis, Earnest, Floyd, Cecil, and Clarence Nixon; and two sisters, Nellie Belle and Mae Nixon. Survivors include a son, Gary and his wife Kay Nixon of Murfreesboro. Two grandsons, James and wife Crystal Nixon of Crossville and Jesse and wife Kelly Nixon of Muddy Pond. Benjamin Burtrom “B.B.” Johnson

85 year old Benjamin Burtrom “B.B.” Johnson of Woodbury died Wednesday of an extended illness at Stones River Hospital. Born in DeKalb County, Johnson was a member of the Mount Aarat Church of Christ and a veteran of the Army. He was a dairy farmer and owner of Johnson’s Grocery. The funeral will be Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home. James Cossey and Wayne Prater will officiate and burial will be in the Centerhill Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Johnson was preceded in death by his parents, Burley and Donie Bratcher Johnson; a daughter, Norma Johnson Gannon; a grandson, Mike Johnson; brothers, Aubrey, I.N., J.B., Vanus, Lanus, Eddie Royce, and Dellmar Johnson and his sister, Edith Farless. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Wilma Hale Johnson of Woodbury. Sons, Gary Johnson of Murfreesboro and Gerald Johnson of McMinnville. 95 year old Viola Jane Martens died Wednesday night at NHC Health Care Center in Smithville. She was a resident of McMinnville, a native of Knox County, Kentucky and a long time resident of Bellwood, Illinois and Guttenburg, Iowa. Martens attended Baptist and Methodist churches and she was retired from the Retail Clerks Union. The funeral will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Steuerle Funeral Home in Villa Park, Illinois. Burial will be in the Oakridge Cemetery in Hillside, Illinois. Visitation will be Friday from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel and Monday from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Steuerle Funeral Home in Villa Park, Illinois. Martens was preceded in death by her husband, Henry A. Martens; a daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth Martens Bruder and Ralph F. Bruder; parents, Thomas H. and Lizzie Prichard Elliott; and three brothers and five sisters. She is survived by a son, Henry A. and wife Annette Martens of Villa Park, Illinois. Two daughters, Mary J. and husband General Oaks of McMinnville and Nola M. and husband John Scott of Smithville. Bristol Lynn Judkins, the 19 day old child of Robert Glenn Judkins of Smithville and Jasmine Flaura Tish Watson of McMinnville, died Monday at River Park Hospital. The funeral will be Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Jason Brown will officiate and burial will be in the Cantrell Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 2:00 p.m. In addition to the parents, the child is survived by grandparents, Alvin and Terecia Judkins of Smithville and Ed and Janet Watson of McMinnville. 75 year old James Lloyd Selby of Smithville died Saturday at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and a job setter with General Motors for 32 years. The funeral will be Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at the New Life United Pentecostal Church, where he was a member. Dwayne Cornelius will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel and Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 10:00 a.m. at the New Life United Pentecostal Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Beulah England Selby; three sisters, Louise Smith, Elizabeth Smith, and Helen Baker; and two brothers, C.B. Noel Selby and Gene Selby. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marianna Selby of Smithville. Four daughters, Sheryl Shadowens of Florida, Sandra Selby of Smithville, Belinda Stratton of Rock Island, and Shannon and husband Earnest Nichols of Smithville. Five grandchildren, James Shadowens, Vanessa Mosier, Heather Theodore, Jesse Theodore, and Ashlee Nichols. Two great grandchildren, Alexia Shadowens and Mia Mosier. 70 year old Ralph Alexander Dawes of Smithville died Saturday at his residence. He was a Baptist, a Mason, Shriner, a Scottish Rite, and member of Liberty Lodge #77. He was also a control mechanic with Dupont. A Masonic service will be Monday night at 6:30. The funeral will be Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Bill Robertson will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.; Monday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.; and Tuesday from noon until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. Dawes was preceded in death by his father, Rudolph Dawes; his mother, Daisey Cothron Dawes; and a brother, Ray Dawes.
