Willie Herman Chapman

73 year old Willie Herman Chapman of Smithville died Saturday at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was a retired nurseryman. The funeral will be Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Shannon Cantrell will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens.Visitation will be Monday from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:00a.m.until the service at 1:00p.m. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Janette Chapman; his father, Chester Chapman; and a grandson, William Michael Murphy. Survivors include a daughter, Drenda Murphy and companion Basil Foutch of Smithville. A son, Roger and his wife Leeta Chapman of Smithville. Three grandchildren, Veronica Atnip of Smithville, Stephanie and Brian Leist of Smithville, and Christie Chapman of Jackson County. Three great grandchildren, Christian Atnip, Alexis Atnip, and Savanna Murphy of Smithville. His mother, Christine Chapman. Special companion, Carol Stanley of Smithville. A brother, Roy Lee and wife Teresa Chapman of Smithville. Two sisters, Macon Hale of Smithville and Pauline and husband Danny Green of Smithville. One special niece, Amanda Neal of Smithville. Special companion’s family, Dana Judkins and family, Terrie Kilgore family, Steve Valentine, and Tony Valentine. Several nieces and nephews also survive. L.D. “Bunt” Murphy

79 year old L.D. “Bunt” Murphy of Smithville died Thursday at his residence. He was a retired nurseryman. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Brian Armstrong will officiate and burial will be in the Cantrell Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Murphy was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mary Agnes Pack Murphy; four brothers, B.L., Robert “Red”, George Haston and L.C. Murphy; and six sisters, Ailene Bandy, Wilma Farris, Oma, Anita Pauline, Gertrude, and Bertha Murphy. Survivors include his wife, Litta Prater Murphy. Two sons, D.L. and wife Diane Murphy and Jason and wife Sarah Murphy. Grandchildren, Eddie, Bridget, Tammy, David, Jeff, Taledia, Noah, and Arick Murphy. Eight great grandchildren, Daniel, Josh, Emily, Adam, Brianna, Bryan Austin, Chassidy, and Brooklyn Murphy all of McMinnville. One sister, Lula Mae “Delica” Stevens of Smithville. Price Edwin Harrison, Jr

77 year old Price Edwin Harrison, Jr. died suddenly at home on Tuesday.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Price Edwin Harrison, Sr. and Ella McKnight Harrison. Price is survived by his brother James T. Harrison and wife Peggy; two sons, Price Edwin Harrison, III and wife Stacy Davis Harrison and Mark Michael Harrison; and daughter, Hart Harrison, all of Nashville.
He grew up in Murfreesboro. As a young man he spent summers in Alaska working on the railroad. He graduated from Middle Tennessee State University, continued his advanced studies at Rice Uni¬versity, and then attended Boston University where he earned a PhD in Health and Physical Educa¬tion. Following graduation, he spent 20 years as a professor at Middle Tennessee State University. He raised purebred Angus cattle and founded “Angus News”, a trade newspaper, which he published for 40 years. He was a devoted member of Buckner’s Chapel United Methodist, Smithville.
Visitation will be held at Jennings and Ayers Chapel on Saturday from 4:00pm until 8:00pm and Sunday from 1:00pm until service time at 2:00pm.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday at 2:00pm at Jennings and Ayers Funeral Home in Murfreesboro.

L.W. Neal

67 year old L.W. Neal of Smithville died Thursday at his home. He was a retired carpenter. The funeral will be Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Visitation will be Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. Neal was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Lillian Hale Neal; one sister, Bobbie Jean Houk; and one grandchild, Ceanna Barnwell. He is survived by two daughters, Angelia and her husband Albert West of Alexandria and Sharron Barnwell of Smithville. Five grandchildren, Andrew West of Alexandria, Justin and Mariah West of Carthage, Alexis, Emily, and Arianna Barnwell of Smithville. One great grandchild, Makiah West of Carthage. 66 year old Larry Cobble of Smithville died Thursday at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was a retired roofer and a member of the Emmanuel Bread of Life. The funeral will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in Whorton Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from noon until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until the service at 11:00 a.m. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruby Walker Cobble; wife, Rose Turner Cobble; a daughter, Angel Mae Cobble; and a brother, James Cobble. John Donald “Don” Smith

71 year old John Donald “Don” Smith of Cedar Key, Florida died Saturday. He was born in DeKalb County, the son of the late Frank and Irene Scott Smith. He served in the United States Air Force from 1961 to 1963, during the Cuban Missle Crisis. Smith was also co-owner of Volunteer Machine and Tool, founder and former CEO of TN Metal Works, President of TN Solar Energy, founder and CEO of Trutrac Painting and Sandblasting of Nashville, and he was the current owner of Cedar Key Marina in Cedar Key, Florida. He attended Christ Episcopal Church in Cedar Key, Florida. The funeral will be Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at Avant Funeral Home in Alexandria. Catharine Regen will officiate and burial will be in Salem Cemetery in Liberty. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday after 11:00 a.m. at Avant Funeral Home. Smith is survived by his wife, Janeice Marshall Smith of Cedar Key, Florida. Two children, Gregory Shane and wife Melissa Smith of Nashville, and Ashley and husband Brandon Childs of Franklin. Five grandchildren, Ethan Smith, Brody Smith, Sophie Smith, Lucy Childs, and Beau Childs. Two brothers, Robert “Pete” Smith of Lebanon and Danny Smith of Lebanon. A sister, Janet Parrish of Madison. 68 year old Gary Britt of Smithville died Monday at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga. He was a self employed carpenter. The family has chosen cremation. Visitation will be Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Britt was preceded in death by his parents, Cordell and Iva Rutherford Britt and a sister, Sandra Greer. Survivors include a son, Jason Britt of Smithville. One daughter, Aimee Jobe of Alexandria. Three grandchildren, Valarianne Britt of Smithville, Sara Jobe and Gavin Miller of Alexandria. William Shane England

41 year old William Shane England of Smithville died Sunday at the emergency room of DeKalb Community Hospital. He was a Baptist. England was also disabled and a former truck driver for Freeman. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Kenneth Clayton will officiate and burial will be in the Bethel Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 2:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by a half-brother, William David England. 82 year old Ralph Elmer Beckham of Smithville died Saturday morning at his residence. He was a painter, and a member at Calvary Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea and was a Bronze Star recepient. The funeral will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with burial in DeKalb Memorial Gardens, with military honors by the Veterans Honor Guard. B.J. Thomason will officiate. Visitation will be Monday from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 11:00 a.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elzie and Georgia Beckham, and wives, Dorothy Beckham and Dixie Ashford Beckham. He is survived by a son, Jacky Beckham of Smithville; two grandsons, Shawn and Christopher Beckham; 3 great-grandchildren. A sister, Myrtle Ingram of Smyrna. 79 year old Eugene Beshears of Nashville died Thursday at Vanderbilt Medical Center. He was a Baptist and a retired employee of Kroger. Visitation will be Saturday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 2:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie Void, Sr. and Ophia Waggoner Beshears; one son, Dennis Beshears; and a sister, Bobbie Murphy. Survivors include his wife, Marcia Beshears; a daughter, Wanda Taylor; three grandchildren, Jerry Taylor, April Young, and Daniel Beshears; three great grandchildren, Holdyn and Alana Beshears and Madison Young all of Nashville.
