Letita A. Herron age 55 of Smithville passed away Sunday morning, April 30, 2017 at her residence. She was born December 5, 1961 to her parents, the late Jerry Hale and Macon Lucille Cantrell Haas. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Ernest P. and Mattie Adcock Cantrell; paternal grandparents, Harl and Eva Hale Haas; sister, Marlene Haas Stoglin. She was a graduate of DeKalb County High School and a member of the Allen’s Chapel United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband, Greg Herron, Sr. of Smithville; son, Gregory Lee Herron, Jr. (Chrisanna); daughter, Kailey Evangaline Herron; 2 granddaughters, India and Nevaeh Herron; grandson, Dedrick Herron; brother, Trent Haas; half-brother, Jeremy Lee Haas; half-sister, Stephanie Haas Fagan. Mary Rhody Snow
94 year old Mary Rhody Snow of Smithville died Thursday at the Webb House Retirement Center in Smithville. She was a member of the Smithville First United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. Mary was a homemaker and a longtime, faithful member of the Smithville First United Methodist Church. She loved cooking and raising vegetable gardens. Everyone who visited in her home was always offered something to eat or left with an item from her garden, freezer, or something she had canned. The funeral will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Smithville First United Methodist Church. Dr. John Carpenter and Reverend Terry Little will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Friday from 4-8 p.m. at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home and Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Shealie and Novella Cubbins Rhody; her beloved husband, Robert L. Snow; a son, Larry (Butch) Snow; sisters, Eva Hill, Nonnie Cantrell, Jennie Cantrell; and brothers, Bob Rhody, Woodrow Rhody, Sheal Allen Rhody, and Austin Rhody. Survivors include a son, Tom Snow of Gallatin. A daughter, Mary Beth and Robin Treadway of Nashville. Daughter-in-law, Peggy Snow of McMinnville. Grandsons, Chris and Lori Snow of McMinnville, Matt Snow of Murfreesboro, and Tucker Treadway of Nashville. Granddaughters, Krisann Snow of McMinnville and Elizabeth Treadway of Los Angeles, California. Great grandchildren, Adry Snow, Aryn Snow, and Zack Stanley, Jayleigh Snow, and Mattie Grace Snow. Sisters-in-law, Lena Rhody of Smithville, Eleanor Burns of Smithville, Mary Morgan of Dayton, Ohio, and Edgar Snow of Knoxville. Numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends survive. Thetta Dunn
Thetta Dunn, 66 of Sparta, Tennessee passed away on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 in Nashville.
Thetta was a very special person. She was feisty, loud, full of life, and always approached everything with a great sense of humor. To say the least, she was unforgettable. She never met a stranger, and her family went far beyond blood. She may have only had two biological children, but there are dozens that call her Mama. Thetta was a Walmart Associate for 13 years. She made countless friends while working at the Sparta Walmart, and her laughter could be heard throughout the entire store. She was the rock of her entire family for so long, trying to hold them together during the storms. She will forever be missed.

Funeral service will be at 1:00pm on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Oak Lawn Funeral Home with Ronnie Taylor officiating. Family will receive friends from 4pm until 8pm on Friday, April 28.
Brother Charles “Chuck” Olson
Brother Charles “Chuck” Olson age 87 of Smithville, passed away Tuesday morning, April 25, 2017 at VA Hospital in Nashville. He was born October 12, 1929 to his parents, the late Charles and Elva Haun Olson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Harlen “Smokey” Olson. A man that has served God, Country and fellow man. Brother Olson was the example of being Christ like, he was the hands, feet and mouth of Christ. He served in the U.S. Army, where he was a paratrooper, and retired from the U. S. Air Force where he had over 20 years service. Brother Olson was a retired Baptist Minister having preached and pastored for over 50 years. He pastored Upper Helton, Snow Hill Baptist, Mt. Zion, Allardt First Baptist, Sycamore and Mt. Herman. Brother Chuck also had a nursing home ministry, jail ministry, lake ministry, was chaplain with the American Legion and member of the Ministerial Association. He served meals on wheels for about 20 years, was a member of American Legion #122 and was a former Smithville City Alderman and a faithful member of Mt. Herman Baptist Church. Brother Olson would carry friends to doctor appointments and was always lending a hand whenever he could help. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 63 years, Earlene Walls Olson of Smithville; son, Matthew (Bonnie) Olson of Alexandria; grandson, Charles (Darla) Olson of Pueblo, CO; sister, Elvera Maki of Cloquet, MN; sister-in-law, Marie Walls of Smithville and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Friday, April 28, 2017 at 1 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bros. Johnathon Willoughby and Dave Carden officiating and burial will follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens with Military Honors. In addition to flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Mt. Herman Baptist Church Building Fund, in memory of Brother Chuck. Visitation with the family will be on Thursday 4:PM until 8:PM and Friday 9:AM until the time of the service at 1 p.m.. Dallas Eugene Vandagriff
82 year old Dallas Eugene Vandagriff of Nashville died Tuesday at Lakeshore Heartland in Donelson. He was a Presbyterian, U.S. Army Veteran, and a retired mechanic with Aladdin Industries. The funeral will be Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Greg Dunn will officiate and burial will be in Whorton Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 3 p.m. until the service at 4 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Bertie Yates Vandagriff and wife, Katherine Harmon Vandagriff. Morris Vinson Watson
Morris Vinson Watson, age 81, died April 23, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family following an extended illness. He was born September 23, 1935 in Daylight Community, Warren County, Tennessee to the late Minister F. L. Watson and Eula Elizabeth Bond Watson. As a child, Watson’s family lived for a period of time in DeKalb County. He was ordained as a minister in September 1966 and pastored several churches during his ministry. He was a member of Newtown The Baptist Church of Christ. He was a fireman thirteen years with the McMinnville Fire Dept., and founding partner of L & M Carpet until his retirement in 2010. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a twin sister Doris Watson, and siblings John Lee Watson, Virgil Adcock, James Watson, Charles Watson, Anna Stinnett, Aaron Watson, George Watson, Lillard Watson, Rebecca Lemmons, Frank Watson, Jr , J C Watson, David Watson & Paul Watson. Mr. Watson was married June 30, 1956, in Ringgold Georgia to Eunice Angele Stoner who survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Cheryl (Thomas) Mingle, Lanny Watson & Dell Watson all of McMinnville & Latecia ‘Tish’ (Larry) Cannon of Murfreesboro; seven grandchildren, Shonda (Shane) Jacobs of McMinnville; Steavon (Lindsey) Bogle of Manchester; Crystal (Aaron) Kiefer of Louisville, Kentucky, Lindsey (Robby) Brown of Murfreesboro, Ken Clayton, Murfreesboro, Dellan Watson McMinnville, & Luke Watson Clarksville; eight great-grand children, Shayna and Shy Jacobs, Jathan and Braylan Bogle all of McMinnville and Brook and Alaynah Bogle of Manchester, Caroline & Abby Kiefer of Louisville Kentucky, one sister Frances Billings of McMinnville and one brother Johnny (Barbara) Watson of Metropolis, Illinois and step grandchildren Zack Cannon of Murfreesboro, Ken Mingle of Manchester, Krista and Kevin (Laura) Mingle of McMinnville, step great grand children Kyrsten (Cody) Johnson, Allison, Morgan and Ava Mingle of McMinnville and Caitlin (Colby) Mooneyham of Bradyville and step great- great grand children Kayleigh and Jackson Johnson of McMinnville. Sandra “Sandy” Faye Cooper Brown, 71, of Smithville, TN and formerly of Goodlettsville, TN and West Palm Beach, FL died April 20, 2017 at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro, TN. Sandy was born to and preceded in death by Harry June Cooper, Jr. And Juanita Marie Thompson Cooper. Sandy was a devoted wife and loving mother. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Howard Charles Brown of Smithville; her children, Laura Michelle Brown of North Palm Beach, FL, Gregory Michael (Kerry) Ward of Gainesville, FL, Matthew Wayne (Jane) Brown of Smithville; 2 step-children, Denise Brown Chadwick of AL and Howie Brown of FL; 10 grandchildren, Tim Brown (Mari Fandl), Jessica Brown, Ashley Ward, Kyle Ward, Gabby Ward, Tyler Ward, Cooper Brown, Cale Brown, Michael Chadwick and Justin Chadwick; 1 great-granddaughter, Charley Rae Brown; 4 sisters, Linda (Ralph) Lamblin of Smithville, Lana Baker of FL, Connie Mann of AL, and Sheila (Gary) Dickerson of Ridgetop, TN; 1 brother, Terry Cooper of FL. He was born November 27, 1951 to his parents, the late Billy Lackey, Sr. and Nora Mae Howard Lackey Pinegar. Billy attended the Old Fashioned Freewill Baptist Church and was a retired Truck Driver. Maxine Baker
Maxine Baker, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend was called home on Saturday, April 15, 2017 at the age of 91. Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; son, Randall; sisters, Dixie, Tutie and Hattie; brothers, Ed, Howard, Lloyd, Steve, Ty, Jiggs, Billie and granddaughter, Jackie.
She is survived by her brother Harvey; sisters-in-law Arlene and Elli; son, Joseph and wife Kathy; daughters, Judy, Mickey, Shirley and husband Morty, Ramona and husband Jerry, Barbara and husband Steve, Jill, Mike, Stan and wife Diana. Maxine leaves 9 grandchildren: Kim, Charlene, Todd, Jenny, Roxanne, Maggie, Jade, Max and Ben; 19 great-grandchildren: Franklin, Theodore, Kayli, Crissy, Michael, Mercedes, Micah, Melanie, Joseph, Matthew, Tiffany, Evan, Emma, Odin, Elliot, Jack, Ollie, Clover and Fox; great-great-granddaughter Aubrey Rose; her beloved Cobb nieces and nephew, her cherished friends at Whorton Springs Baptist Church and Wynde Weaver who has become a member of our family.
A special thank you to Ramona, Joseph and Wynde who, with great personal sacrifice provided the round-the-clock care that allowed Mom to stay in her own home.
Mom lived life to the fullest. She loved God, Sunday morning church with Joseph and Kathy, her family, country music, good food, playing guitar, singing the old songs and a glass of wine.
Her daughter Ramona said it best: She is a Godly woman.
Funeral Service celebrating Mrs. Maxine’s life will be 2:PM Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Dekalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. David Mahan officiating and internment will follow at Young Bend Cemetery. There will be no visitation prior to the service. Family and friends will gather at DeKalb Funeral Chapel for the service at 2:PM.

Mary Pauline Wilson age 57 of Smithville passed away Sunday afternoon April 16, 2017 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center in Cookeville. She was born January 14, 1960 to her parents, the late James Robert and Peggy Ann Young Maples. Mary was a seamstress and member of Engrated Word of Cookeville. A memorial service will be held 1:PM Friday April 21, 2017 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Chris McMichael officiating. Visitation will be held Friday from 11:AM until time of the service at 1:PM.
