Joe Harold Mason

72 year old Joe Harold Mason of Liberty died Tuesday at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was a car salesman, member of Salem Baptist Church, and a U.S. Navy veteran. Mason was also a graduate of DeKalb County High School and he attended Wayne State University. Mason was a member of the Alexandria Lodge #175, Short Mountain Lodge #373, and he was Past Master of DeKalb Lodge #358. Mason was a York Rite Knight Templar and he belonged to the Al Menah Shrine Clown Unit where he won five first place trophies. Mason was in the car business for over 30 years as manager of Jim Reed Chevrolet and part owner of Jackson Brothers Chevrolet. He was also an antique dealer for 20 years. The funeral will be Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Salem Baptist Church. Mark Wade will officiate and burial will follow in Salem Cemetery with Masonic Rites. Visitation will be Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Salem Baptist Church. Mason was preceded in death by his father, Louie B. Mason, Sr. Survivors include his wife, Clara Jean Harris Mason of Liberty. Three children, Laura South and son-in-law, Daryl of Murfreesboro, Joe Harold Mason, Jr. of Melbourne, Florida, and David Mason of Branson, Missouri. Five grandchildren, Rachael and Kathryn South of Murfreesboro, Bailey, Hayden, and Shelby Mason of Branson, Missouri. His mother, Alene Mason of Lebanon. Brothers, Louie Mason, Jr. and wife Fran of Smyrna and John Mason and wife Dean of Watertown. Sisters, Donna Hatcher and husband Robert of McEwen and Sue Smallwood of Lebanon. Jane Yarbrough Cherry

90 year old Jane Yarbrough Cherry of Nashville died Tuesday at Baptist Hospital in Nashville. A memorial service will be Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at the Belle Meade Methodist Church. Scotty Smith will officiate and musical arrangements will be led by Angela Cleveland. Visitation will be Thursday from noon until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. She is survived by a daughter, Patsi Cherry Braswell of Smithville. One son, Wink Cherry and wife Reina of Jacksonville, Florida. One brother, Tom Yarbrough of Franklin. Six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. One sister, Betty Woodard of Lake Charles, Louisiana and several nieces and nephews survive. The family has requested that donations be made to the Smithville First Baptist Church Life Enrichment Center Building in lieu of flowers. Terry Phaup

52 year old Terry Phaup of Smithville died Tuesday at his residence. He was a Baptist and a member of the U.S. Marine Corps. A memorial service will be Thursday at 3:00 p.m. at the Smithville Church of Christ. Dan Gulley will officiate. No visitation will be held. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Doris Porter Phaup and a brother, Danny Phaup. Survivors include companion, Debra Tisdale of Smithville. A brother, Lawrence Phaup of Smithville and a sister, Cheryl Owen of Smithville. The family asks that donations be made to DeKalb Funeral Chapel to help with funeral expenses, in lieu of flowers. Jesse James “Screw” Driver

81 year old Jesse James “Screw” Driver of Elmwood died Sunday at the Riverview Regional Medical Center in Carthage. He was a Smith County native, a construction worker, and a Baptist. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. Jerry Driver and Charles Gentry will officiate and burial will be in the New Hope Cemetery at Alexandria. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 11:00 a.m until the service. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie C. and Ethel Fitts Driver; sisters, Virginia and husband Marvin Lynch; Josephine Driver, and Corrine and husband Luther Music; and brothers, Avin Driver and Lacy Lane Driver. Nevelene Reeder

90 year old Nevelene Reeder of Smithville died Sunday at NHC Healthcare Center. She was a homemaker and a member of the Bright Hill Methodist Church. The funeral will be Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Whorton Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harmon Redmon and Oma Pack Summers; her husband, Clarence Reeder; and four brothers, Garlon, Jack, Nelson, and Lloyd Redmon. Survivors include two daughters, Doris Reed of Mississippi and Judy and husband Richard Medlen of Kentucky. Six grandchildren, Tamara Miles and Gueary Reed of Mississippi, Michael Medlen of Indiana, David Reed of Tennessee, Warren Edward Medlen of Minnesota, and Mat Medlen of Kentucky. Dorothy Louise Gray Burnett

81 year old Dorothy Louise Gray Burnett of Alexandria died Saturday at Lebanon Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Macon, Georgia, the daughter of the late Thelma Chiles and Charles LeRoy Gray. Six brothers and sisters preceded her in death, Charles Gray, Tabitha Milam, Helen Ripley, Lila Mae Hitton, Bobby Gray, and Thelma Gray. A great granddaughter also preceded her in death, McKinsey Grace Cannon. She was married in 1948 to Walter Lee Burnett and they lived in Georgia until 1980 when they moved to Alexandria. She was a beautician and later a dental technician. While in Georgia, she was a member of the Atlanta First Church of the Nazarene and after moving to Alexandria, she became a member of the First Baptist Church in Alexandria. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Alexandria. Dr. Curt Wagoner will officiate and burial will be in Hillview Memorial Cemetery in Alexandria. Donnie G. Taylor

61 year old Donnie G. Taylor of Smithville died Friday at his residence. He was a member of the Short Mountain United Methodist Church. He was self-employed. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Michael Hale will officiate and burial will be in the Underwood Cemetery in LaFayette. Visitation will be Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 11:00 a.m. Taylor was preceded in death by his mother, Lillian Taylor; his father, C.H. Malone; and grandparents, Green and Ava Pedigo. Survivors include his wife, Kathy Taylor of Smithville. A daughter, Robin and husband Tommy Dozier of LaFayette. Four grandchildren, Corey Jenkins, Tyler Jenkins, Logan Dozier, and Eddie Lee Smith. One great grandchild, Alie Jayden Jenkins. Richard Leon McDaniels, III

Richard Leon McDaniels, III, newborn son of Patricia Ann Tindell and Richard Leon McDaniels, Jr. of Temperance Hall died Sunday at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. The infant is also survived by a brother, Cheyenne McDaniels and sisters, Paige McDaniels and Amber McDaniels. Grandparents, Patricia Parks of Sparta; Deborah Culwell of Smithville; Richard McDaniels, Sr. of Smithville and Keith Tindell of Sparta. Great grandparents, Jessie Teeples of Sparta and Era Lou Van Way of West Virginia. Several aunts and uncles also survive. A memorial service will be held at the Gordonsville Chapel of Bass Funeral Home on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. George Reed will officiate. Clyde Thomas

80 year old Clyde Thomas of Smithville died Wednesday at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was a member of the Church of Christ and he was retired from the Exxon Oil Company after 31 years. Thomas was a member of the Lions Club, Chairman of the Board at Stones River Hospital for 10 years, Red Cross Blood Drives, contributor and supporter to Dr. Adams Memorial Library in Woodbury, and a Korean War veteran. He served in the Navy for 52 months. The funeral will be Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Dan Gulley and Tim Woodward will officiate and burial will be in the Thyatira Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.; Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Marshal and Lola Knox Thomas and two brothers, Albert Guy Thomas and Ray Thomas. 79 year old Marie McCormack of Rossville died Wednesday. She was born in Smithville but moved to Rossville in 1986. She was a member of the Boynton United Methodist Church. McCormack was preceded in death by her parents, Jody and Violet Arnold and her sister, Jewell Phillips. The funeral will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home in Smithville. Terry Little will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. E.D.T. on Thursday at Wilson Funeral Home-Fort Oglethorpe and from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. C.D.T. on Friday and prior to the service on Saturday at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home in Smithville.
