61 year old Joel Wheeler Talley of Alexandria died Wednesday at University Medical Center in Lebanon. Talley was born in Alexandria, the son of the late Edith Vantrease and Paul Wheeler Talley. He was a 1967 graduate of Watertown High School. He was married to Sue Sellars on December 9th, 1967 and she preceded him in death on May 1st, 1993. He later married Cathy Francine Butner on October 1st, 1999. He worked for over 30 years with Pat Eatherly Construction Company and Crockett-Phillips Construction Company. He was a member of the Alexandria Church of Christ. The body is at Avant Funeral Home in Alexandria where the service will be Saturday at 2:00 p.m. with Jeff Ford and Tim Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Hillview Memorial Cemetery in Alexandria. The Talley family will receive friends at the Avant Chapel on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 2:00 p.m. Talley is survived by his wife, Cathy Talley of Alexandria. Three children, Tonya Taylor of Alexandria; Trina and husband David Hedge of Smithville; and Paul and wife Mandy Talley of Brentwood. Step daughter, Alison Turner of Norris, Tennessee. Mable Jean West
66 year old Mable Jean West of Alexandria died Tuesday at her residence. She was born in Whitesville, West Virginia, daughter of the late Virgie Mae Runions and Thurman Preston Mullins. West was also a member of the Snow Hill Baptist Church. The body is at Avant Funeral Home in Alexandria where the service will be Thursday at 2:00 p.m. Steve Puckett will officiate and burial will follow in Hillview Memorial Cemetery. The West family will receive friends at Avant Funeral Home on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Thursday from noon until the service at 2:00 p.m. West is survived by her husband of 48 years, Robert West of Alexandria. Five children, Roseettie Gibbs of Murfreesboro, Wanda Martin of Smithville, Albert and wife Angelia West of Alexandria, Frank West of Alexandria, and Charlotte West of Alexandria. 36 year old Jamie Higdon of Smithville died Saturday at his residence. He was a member of the Buckner’s Chapel United Methodist Church and a member of the Smithville Golf Club. He was disabled. The funeral will be Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Michael Hale will officiate and burial will be in the Bonham Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 3:00 p.m. Higdon was preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Jan and Rick Cade; father, Floyd Higdon; and maternal grandfather, Dale Staley. Survivors include sisters, Mindy and husband Mark Versluis of Mount Juliet and Chynna and Brittany Cade of Smithville. Step-sister, Joan Cade of Smithville. 60 year old Larry Paul Young of Smithville died Wednesday at his residence. He was a retired parts and service director at Mike Anderson Ford, a City of Smithville police officer for 26 years, and a City of Smithville Alderman for six years. He was also a Baptist. The funeral will be Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Magness “JR” and Annie Laura Stone Young; one brother, Potter Young and a sister, Peggy Maples. Survivors include his wife, Pam Cook Young; two brothers, Kenneth and wife Susan Young and Phillip Young; and mother-in-law, Hazel Cook all of Smithville. The funeral for 68 year old Gordon Lee Atnip will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Baxter Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Odd Fellow Cemetery. 74 year old Marjorie Ellen Fleenor Schmidt Hopkins died Tuesday. She was a personal sales lady of custom fitted bras for over 40 years and a member of the Shively Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Thomas W. Hopkins; her children, Sherry Schmidt Kennedy and husband David; Susie Schmidt Bradley, and Julie Schmidt Hanrahan and husband Chuck; grandchildren, Amy Kennedy Bindner and husband David, Kara Kennedy Disblbio and husband Marty, Shawn Ferrell, Nicki Lacey, Kristina Calvin and husband Walker, Katherine Waller, Mollie, Jamie and Allison Hanrahan; her niece, Joni Brown and nephew, James Yell. 53 year old Arlon Rose Cobble of Smithville died Tuesday at Centennial Hospital. She was a homemaker and a member of the Emmanuel Bread of Life. The funeral will be Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Doretta Hutchings will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday from noon until 8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Ella Mae Herman Turner; a daughter, Angel Mae Cobble; a brother, Jerry Turner; a half brother, Elton Turner; and a sister, Halena Driver. 65 year old Richard Allen “Rick” Senecal of Smithville died Tuesday at his residence. He was an active member of the New Home Baptist Church and a retired electrician with the City of Lakeland, Florida. The funeral will be Friday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Josh Hale will officiate and burial will be in the New Salem Cemetery in New Salem, Kentucky at a later date. Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Friday from noon until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Irma Croteau. Senecal is survived by his wife, Marilyn Joan Vinson of Smithville. A daughter, Dawn Martin of Massachusetts. Step-children, Charles Stephen and wife Julianna Johnson of Kings Mills, Ohio and Cynthia Lynn Johnson and husband Dan Stroup of North Carolina. 86 year old Junior Keith of Smithville died Saturday at Vanderbilt Hospital. He was owner and operator of Keith & Son Trucking. He was also a member of the Mount Moriah The Baptist Church. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Tim Pelham and Tim Pack will officiate and burial will be in the Mount Ararat Cemetery.
