51 year old Dennie Thomas Hutchings of Walling died Thursday at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville. He was a Baptist. Hutchings was also retired. The funeral will be Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Saturday from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his father, John Thomas Hutchings. Survivors include his mother, Roberta Hutchings of Walling. One brother, Mark and wife Sherry Hutchings of Smithville. One sister, Tena Harrell of Walling. One nephew, John Stewart of Nashville. 66 year old Jerry Fish of Dowelltown died Monday at his residence. He was employed by Carrier. The funeral will be Thursday at 3:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 3:00 p.m.. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marlon and Ovia Preston Fish and his wife, Geraldine Fish. Survivors include his wife, Judy Todd Fish of Dowelltown. A son and daughter-in-law, Jeremy and Stephanie Fish of Goodlettsville. A brother, Danny “Speedy” and wife Regina Fish of Smithville. Three sisters, Judy Fish of Smithville, Janice and husband David Stewart of Smithville, and Tana Clark of Smithville. Several nieces,nephews, cousins, and friends also survive. Jewell Dean Kennedy

81 year old Jewell Dean Kennedy of Smithville died Sunday at Raintree Nursing Home. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Leonard Herman will officiate with burial in Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the service. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim Fish and Unie Lee Vanatta Fish; her husband, Joe Kennedy, and a daughter, Sandra West. She is survived by two sons, Randy and wife Laura Kennedy of Smithville, and Ricky Kennedy of Georgia. Six grandchildren, several great-grandchidren. Two brothers, Charles and wife Dot Fish of Auburntown, J. C. and wife Charlene of Milton. Three sisters, Wanda and husband Jeff Knox of Liberty, Kathy and husband Bobby Vaughn of Murfreesboro, Georgia Fay and husband Jerry Emerson of Florida. Jack Lee Orrand, Sr

73 year old Jack Lee Orrand, Sr. of Watertown died Saturday at his residence. He was a retired service manager at L.E. Saunders and Sons Office Machines. Orrand was also a Baptist, a graduate of East High School in Nashville, and a U.S. Army veteran. The funeral will be Monday at 2:00 p.m. at Hunter Funeral Home in Watertown. Don Mathis will officiate and burial will be in the Jones Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from noon until 8:00 p.m. and Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the service. He was preceded in death by his father, Johnnie Vernon Orrand and step-mother, Eva Franklin Orrand. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Shirley Willis Orrand of Watertown. 84 year old Lorene Hale of Smithville died Thursday at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a retired nurse. The funeral will be Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Elizabeth Chapel Baptist Church where she was a member. Bill Robertson will officiate and burial will be in Whorton Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from noon until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the service time at 1:00 p.m. at the church. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Nora Fuson Johnson; her husband, Charlie Hale; and a brother Virgil Johnson. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Pam Hale of Smithville. Three daughters and a son-in-law, Deborah and David Coffee of Dowelltown, and Teresa Foutch and Lisa Caldwell of Smithville. Five grandchildren, Chrissy and Andy Prichard of Liberty, Joshua and Jaynell Hale of Lebanon, Garth and Jennifer Coffee of Dowelltown, Brandon Caldwell of Smithville, and Jessica Hale of Smithville. Four great grandchildren, Evan Prichard of Liberty, Owen Coffee of Dowelltown, Logan Coffee of Dowelltown, and Izzy Prichard of Liberty. Four sisters, Mary Jane Johnson, Violet Pack, and Christine Tramel all of Smithville and Barbara Keaton of Woodbury. 52 year old Linda Sue Farris of Smithville died Wednesday at Centennial Alive Hospice. She was a homemaker. The funeral will be Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Chad Bagley and Darrell Davenport will officiate and burial will be in the Hale Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, T.J. and Mildred Ashford Murphy Self, step-father, L.C. Murphy, and a step-brother, Bruce Murphy. Survivors include her husband, Robert Farris; two sons, Jack Mullican, Jr. and Jay Lee Mullican; five grandchildren, Cayleb, Kaylee, Bailey, Hunter, Haylee, and Zackery Mullican; her mother, Mildred Murphy; two sisters, Vicky and husband Jay Ramsey and Teesha Gibbs; and a brother, Sherman Murphy all of Smithville. Three step-brothers, Curtis Murphy, of Indiana, and Calvin and Ricky Murphy both of Smithville. One step-sister, Lisa Bain of Smithville. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Thomas Byron Nixon

77 year old Thomas Byron Nixon of Alexandria died Tuesday at Lebanon Health and Rehabilitation Center. Nixon was born in Sykes, the son of the late Ruby Lee Willoughby and Willie Fred Nixon. A step-brother, Odell Winfree and a step-sister, Novella Wilkerson preceded him in death. He served in the United States Army in 1954-55. Nixon worked in banking in Davidson and Wilson County. He was a member of the Mount Juliet Lodge #642 F & A.M. and a member of the Alexandria Church of Christ. The funeral will be Friday at 10:00 a.m. at Avant Funeral Home in Alexandria. Burial will be in the Union Hill Cemetery in Sykes. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 10:00 a.m. Nixon is survived by his wife of 54 years, Fay Christian Nixon of Alexandria. 80 year old Lorene Malone Bates of Watertown died Tuesday at the Quality Care Health Center in Lebanon. She was a factory worker and a DeKalb County native. The funeral will be Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at Hunter Funeral Home in Watertown. Burial will follow in the New Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the service. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Bates; a daughter, Shirley Dutton; parents, Ed and Mary Christian Malone; and sisters, Maggie Cooper and Bobbie Stacy Derting. Survivors include a granddaughter, Laurie Southard and Barrett Tipton of Alexandria. A great grandson, Caleb Tipton. A son-in-law, Jerry Wayne Dutton of Alexandria. 64 year old Carolyn “Blondie” Walker of Smithville died Saturday at her residence in Smithville. She was a lab secretary, an Episcopal, and a member of the VFW. Amvet, and Moose Lodge. Visitation will be Tuesday from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 11:00 a.m. She is survived by her husband, Don Walker of Smithville. Children, Kim Schaendorf of Waylan, Michigan; Cindy and husband Roger Dowis of Midland, Michigan; Michael and wife Missy Klemkosky of Fort Drum, New York; Carrie Klemkosky of Middleville, Michigan; Kim and husband Jeff Holloway of Arkansas; Shelly and husband Dan Bott of Chicago, Illinois; Tony Walker, and Troy and wife Hannah Walker of Illinois. Visitation will be Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 4:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her husband, Magness Young, Jr. and her parents, Frank and Lula Mae Bass Stone; a daughter, Peggy Maples; a son, Potter Young, and a daughter-in-law, Tammy Young. She is survived by three sons, Kenneth and wife Susan Young, Paul and wife Pam Young, and Phillip Young, all of Smithville. Three brothers, Joe Stone and Ernest Stone of Smithville, and Billy and wife Bonnie Stone of LaFayette. Three sisters, Janice Davis of Smithville, Mary and husband Jerry Bailey of Alexandria, and Bobbie and husband Charles Fite of Lebanon.
