83 year old Richard Paul King of Brush Creek died Tuesday at his residence. He was a member of the Episcopal Church and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Episcopal Church in Lebanon. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas King and Olive Gibson; a son, Richard King; and a brother, Tommy King. Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Cynthia King of Brush Creek. Children, Donna and Danny Positano of Burlington, Connecticut, Michael and Tina King of Franklin, Tracy and Andrew Boutin of Burlington, Connecticut, and Kristen and Rick Layton of Maine. Joyce Elizabeth Mayo age 69 of Smithville, passed away Tuesday night, April 11, 2017 at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro. She was born January 24, 1948 to her parents, the late J.C. and Elizabeth Stafford Linder. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Mayo. Joyce was a garment factory worker and member of the non-denominational church. Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Dave Mayo, Jr. of Smithville; 2 sons, Michael and Greg Mayo both of Smithville; 8 grandchildren, Michael, Ashley, Destinee, Christina, Gregory, Kelly, Kaitlyn, and Jordan; 9 great-grandchildren; sister and caregiver, Zettie Ervin (Wayne Laleman) of Smithville; sisters and brothers, Sue (Adam) Caldwell of Smithville, Peggy Coppinger of McMinnville, Lois Ann Page of Smithville, Danny Linder of Texas, Roger and David Linder both of Smithville and Jerry Linder of Lebanon; several nieces and nephews also survive. Thelma Jean Mooneyham age 77 of Murfreesboro and a native of DeKalb County, passed away Monday afternoon April 10, 2017at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro. She was born April 13, 1939 to her parents, the late Lemuel Cecil and Lela Pearl Dutton Hale. Thelma was a homemaker and member of The Living Word Tabernacle Church. Norman Gray Ferrell age 72 of Alexandria, passed away Monday afternoon in Liberty from injuries received in a logging accident. He was born November 22, 1944 to his parents the late Joe and Lucille Hale Ferrell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by step-daughter, Kayla Cantrell; twin brothers, Joe and John Ferrell; sister, Louann Ferrell. He was a Christian, mechanic and a logger. Norman is survived by his wife, Deborah Ferrell of Alexandria; 2 sons, Johnifer Norman Ferrell of Smithville and Joe Allen Ferrell of Liberty; 1 step-son, Kevin Bogle of Alexandria; 2 step-daughters, Mary Jo Ford of South Haven, MS and Tabitha Ford of Rutherford County; 6 grandchildren; 5 sisters, Jean (William) Edmonds of Alexandria, Wanda (Donnie) Braswell of Dowelltown, Betty Cantrell of Alexandria, Rosemary Bane and Marsha Endsley both of Brush Creek; several nieces and nephews also survive. Hartford Jennings Lewis age 83 of Lebanon, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, April 8, 2017 surrounded by his loving wife of 62 years and his three children. Funeral services for Mr. Lewis will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at Hunter Funeral Home in Watertown with Rev. Mike Smith and Rev. Kevin Medlin officiating. Interment will follow at Salem Cemetery in Liberty, TN. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Monday and from 10 a.m. till service time on Tuesday. Hartford is survived by his wife, June Cripps Lewis; daughters, Ivana (Mike) Smith and Penny (Dennis) Howerton; son, Mark (Chari) Lewis; grandsons, Casey (Molly) Smith, Evan Smith, Andrew Jennings Howerton and William Hartford Lewis; great-grandchildren, Greyson and Charlie Smith. He is also survived by sisters, Dorothy (Earl) West, Annette Elrod and Betty Lattimore; sisters-in-law, Lucille Lewis and Julia Mae Lewis and brother-in-law, Bob Earl Fuston. Hartford was born April 16, 1933 on Easter Sunday, son of the late Floyd Jennings and Mamie Bell Lewis and was preceded in death by brothers, Robert Earl and William Clyde Lewis; sisters, Mamie Ruth Lewis and Linda Fuston; brothers-in-law, Jack Boyd, Perry Elrod and Danny Lattimore. Hartford graduated from Liberty High School in 1951 and soon after married June Cripps, a marriage that would last over 62 years. He was soon drafted into the U.S. Army in 1955, completed his basic training at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, Co and finished his military obligation at Fort Wainwright in Fair Banks, AK. He was a Poplar Bear. Hartford spent many years as a banker for Commerce Union Bank in Nashville, Lebanon Bank, Watertown Bank and Wilson Bank & Trust. Although a banker by trade, he was a farmer at heart. Nothing made him happier than to be in his overalls watching his plants grow and yield. Heaven got a little greener when Hartford walked through the gates. He was a member of the Lebanon Cumberland Presbyterian Church since 1969 and served as a deacon, elder, session leader, Sunday school teacher and choir member. James Isaac Maxwell, 87, of Welaka, FL went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at Putnam Medical Center in Palatka, FL following a brief illness. James was born in DeKalb County, Tennessee on October 10, 1929 to Robert Lee and Annie Laura Maxwell. He was educated at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, TN where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology. He went on to work for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and worked at several fish hatcheries around the country before arriving in Welaka to manage the Welaka National Fish Hatchery in 1972. He retired from his post in 1994 after 34 years of total service. A member of Welaka United Methodist Church for many years, Jim served on the board, as an usher, and also helped with church breakfasts and other activities. He enjoyed volunteering his time and talent, playing Rook, solving puzzles, and eating lots of ice cream. He loved spending time with his grandchildren/great grandchildren and taking them fishing. The family wishes to extend special thanks to the loving staff of Putnam Community Medical for all of their care and compassion. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Robert Maxwell. James is survived by his wife of 67 years, Helen Rose Maxwell of Welaka; two sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas and Rosalou Maxwell of Spanish Fort, AL, and Dennis and Lynne Maxwell of Pomona Park; five grandchildren and spouses, Monica Maxwell, Michael and Laura Maxwell, James and AlvaGayle Maxwell, Jessica Maxwell, and Rebecca and Johnny Phosavath; eleven great grandchildren, and a nephew, Johnny Maxwell. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 11th at Masters Funeral Home in Palatka with Pastor Dennis White and Pastor Earl Prevatt officiating. The family will begin receiving friends one hour prior to the start of the service. In honor and celebration of James’ life a Video Tribute will be shown.

Michael Estes age 43 of Smithville, passed away Saturday night at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro. He was born November 1, 1973 to his parents, the late Lonnie Fisher Estes and Rosa Lee Davis Estes. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Grover and Viella Estes, Robert and Lillie Beatrice Davis. Michael worked at Smithville McDonald’s for 20 years and was a member of the Smithville First Freewill Baptist Church. He is survived by his mother, Rosa Estes of Smithville; 2 sisters, Rose (Arthur) Brown of Smithville and Jennifer (Glen) Edge of Short Mountain; 1 brother, Donnie (Rie) Estes of Bethpage; 4 nephews, Michael Caldwell, Christopher (Beverly) Caldwell, Johnathon Edge (Sarah Ribble), Cody Edge; 1 great-nephew, Joshua Edge; several aunts, uncles and cousins also survive. 53 year old Sharon Jane Jones of Smithville died Friday at Cookeville Regional Hospital. She was a Baptist and a homemaker. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Mrs. Thompson passed away on Monday, April 3, 2017 at Tristar Centennial Hospital in Nashville, TN.
She was born March 30, 1941 in Cookeville to the late Jesse Ridley Gaw and Mary Emma Nabors Gaw.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Buddy Gaw and brother-in-law, Albert Thompson.
Wanda was a lifelong resident of Cookeville, except for a short tour in New York with her husband, Tommy Thompson while he was in the Air Force. She worked diligently as a Real Estate Broker in Putnam County and she helped many families find their forever homes. She enjoyed meeting new people and never forgot the ones she already knew. She was a warm person with a wonderful smile who never met a stranger. She loved watching and talking about football, especially her favorite team the Dallas Cowboys. Wanda’s biggest passion was her family that she loved dearly and was happy to spend time with whenever they got together.
She touched so many people’s lives professionally and personally and will be missed by everyone whose lives she touched.
Wanda is survived by her husband, Tommy Nelson Thompson of Cookeville; sons, Tommy Thompson and Rita of Charlotte N.C., Tim Thompson and wife Jonamie of Tyler, TX, Kevin Thompson and wife Roxanne of Hilham TN, and Kyle Thompson and wife Becky of Smithville, TN.; brother, Wayne Gaw and wife Donna; grandsons, Cody Thompson of Cookeville, Zachary Thompson of Murfreesboro, Alex Thompson of Cookeville; granddaughters, Heather Thompson of Mooresville, N.C., Kristen Militello (Anthony)of New York, Valerie Farrell (Samuel) of Memphis, Courtney Reardon (Seth) of Hilham; and great grandson, Damien Militello of New York; brother and sister-in-law, Eddie and Linda Thompson, sister-in-law, Faye Thompson and a host of nieces and nephews.

88 year old Helen Fay Stanley of Dowelltown died Monday at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital, ER. She was born to her parents, the late Cleveland and Carrie Summers Taylor. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, L.D. Stanley; daughter, Wanda Wallace; grandson, Jamie Webb; brothers, Grady and Ralph Taylor; sisters, Virginia Hendrixson, Irene Judkins, Ellen Hendrixson, and Lena Maynard. Ms. Stanley was a homemaker and a member of the Mt. Herman Baptist Church. She is survived by her sons, Larry and wife Phyllis Stanley of Dowelltown and Dennis and wife Donna Stanley of Smithville. Grandsons, Tracy Stanley, Steve and wife Jessica Stanley, and Daniel Stanley. Granddaughter, Jennifer and husband Ricky Guinn. Step granddaughters, Jessica Ferrell, Felicia McPeak, Christie Ferrell, and Cissie Self. Fifteen great grandchildren. Sister, Margaret and husband Earl Vanatta of Dowelltown.
