87 year old Myrtle Colwell of Smithville died Friday at her residence. She was a homemaker and a member of the New Life Pentecostal Church. The funeral will be Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Dwayne Cornelius will officiate and burial will be in the Adcock Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.; Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.; and Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 11:00 a.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Susie Campbell Usrey; her husband, Dallas Colwell; one grandson, David Crook; a son-in-law, Jackie Daniel; a daughter-in-law, Ann Colwell; step-mother, Mary Ellen Usrey. Survivors include six daughters, Charlie Mai Daniel, Mary and husband Ronnie Bates, Frances and husband Eddie McGuire, and Tena Colwell all of Smithville, Teresa and husband Jerry Pack of Livingston, and Barbara and husband Keith Huling of Smithville. Four sons, Alton and wife Christine Colwell, Albert and wife Mary Colwell, Delbert and wife Elizabeth Colwell all of Smithville, and Roy and wife Debbie Colwell of Murfreesboro. Nineteen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. Four half-sisters, Barbara Goodwin of Sparta, Rosie Skiba of Florida, Mary Lynch of Lebanon, Sue Grindstaff of Alabama. Two half-brothers, Erby Usrey of Mississippi and Jim Usrey of Sparta. Candace Gayle Dodd

29 year old Candace Gayle Dodd of Woodbury died Thursday at her home of a short illness. She was born in DeKalb County. Dodd was also a member of the Church of Christ. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home. Weldon Parkinson will officiate and burial will be in the Sycamore Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Her parents are Connie Dodd Ashford of Woodbury and the late Steve Landon Goodwin. Grandparents are Loretta Dodd of Woodbury and the late Kenneth Dodd; and Louise Goodwin of Liberty and the late Walter Goodwin. Dodd is survived by a brother, Cory Chapman of Nashville. A sister, Rachel Goodwin of Smithville. Special niece, Morgan Hale of Woodbury. Aunts and uncles, Rose Nokes of Liberty, Paulette and Steve Osment of Woodbury, Kendall and Mark Duggin of Auburntown and Kathy Ellis of Liberty. Alvin “Buck” Burton

77 year old Alvin “Buck” Burton of Smithville died Wednesday at his residence. He was a member of the Whorton Springs Baptist Church and a self-employed cabinet worker. Burton served in the U.S. Navy, a veteran of the Korean War. The funeral will be Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Steve Warren will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.; Friday from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.; and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Zettie and Henry Viola Davis Burton and nine brothers and sisters. Survivors include his wife, Jackie Burton of Smithville. Seven children, Adam and his wife Wanda Mathis, Diane and husband Chris Crook, and Karen and husband Aaron Lester all of Smithville, Joe Burton of Livingston, Dennis Burton and Rocky Burton both of Nashville, and Frank and wife Jeannie Burton of Kentucky. Ninteen grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. Two sisters, Margaret Dabbs of Nashville and Barbara Wooten of LaVergne. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Ray Neal, Jr

84 year old Ray Neal, Jr. of Smithville died Wednesday at Westmoreland Care and Rehab. He was a Methodist, a U.S. Navy veteran, a carpenter and bait salesman. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Ocana Coon Hunters Club. The funeral will be Friday at 10:00 a.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Royce Martin will officiate and burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery in Nashville. Visitation will be Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 10:00 a.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray, Sr. and Mary Winnie Raymond Neal; his wife, Frances C. Neal; a son, Carlus Ray Neal; brothers, Billy Charles and John Robert Neal; and a sister, Ailene Spivack. Survivors include four children, Richard A. Neal, Sr. and wife Pat of Lebanon, Karen Joyce and husband Earl Smith of Westmoreland, Thomas A. Neal of Carthage, David Lee and wife Tammy Neal of Woodbury. 68 year old Sandra Lee Allen of Smithville died Tuesday at Masters Health Care Center in Algood. She was a member of the Indian Creek Baptist Church and a homemaker. The funeral will be Friday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Robert Shepherd, Jr. and Ronnie Dunn will officiate and burial will be in Dodson’s Branch Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Helen Hiedenrich Titcombe and a brother, Ralph “Butch” Titcombe. Survivors include four children, Steve and wife Debbie Allen of Gainesboro, Donna Greer of Smithville, Carol and husband Lonnie Brown of Smithville, and Claudette Caldwell of McMinnville. Grandchildren, Amanda Dyer, Matthew Dyer, Earl Allen, Joey Allen, Jason Allen, Sue Knight, Sandra Knight, Ashley Boner, Cody Boner, Lonnie Brown, Shanna Brown, and Andrew Caldwell. 86 year old Martha Sue Squires of Smithville died Monday at Vanderbilt Medical Center. She was a member of the Indian Creek Baptist Church and a retired factory worker and homemaker. The funeral will be Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Mike Carpenter and Terry Fesler will officiate and burial will be in the Brush Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Garland and Lillian Reeves Evans; her husband, J.W. Squires; a daughter, Ann Lefton; a sister, Jane Grandstaff; and a brother, Robert Evans. Survivors include a daughter, Peggy and husband Wayne Fuson of Smithville. Three grandchildren, Jerry Fuson and Jenny and husband Todd Cantrell all of Smithville, and Julie and husband Collin McCoy of Winterpark, Florida. Henry “Buddy” Alonzo Cox

72 year old Henry “Buddy” Alonzo Cox of Smithville died Sunday at his residence. He was retired from the Tennessee Mechanical Corporation and a member of the Whorton Springs Baptist Church. The family has chosen direct cremation. A memorial service will be Saturday, May 22nd at 4:00 p.m. at Whorton Springs Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Rose Harris Cox and a brother, James Lee Cox, Jr. Survivors include his wife, Louise Reid Cox. Two daughters, Darlene and husband Mark Brown of Georgia and Lisa and husband Ronald Lessard of North Carolina. A son, Jimmy and wife Vivian of Smyrna. 57 year old Sally Carolyn Judkins of Smithville died Friday at her residence. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. The funeral will be Monday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Michael Hale will officiate and burial will be in the Bonham Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 2:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Judkins and her father, Eddie Floyd Robinson. Survivors include her mother, Annie Lee Taylor of Smithville. Two sisters and a brother, Freeda and husband Bill Phillips, Ray and wife Teresa Robinson, and Sue and husband Bobby Summers all of Smithville. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Robert “Bobby” Lee Plahetka

34 year old Robert “Bobby” Lee Plahetka, formerly of Indiana, died Thursday at his residence in White County. He was a farm hand. The funeral will be Monday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Peeled Chestnut Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Paul Plahetka. Survivors include his mother, Gail Young Osborne and her husband Frosty; one sister, Tara Plahetka and one brother, Brian Nulf all of Indiana. Brenda Kaye Bell Ferrell

55 year old Brenda Kaye Bell Ferrell of McMinnville died Thursday at Saint Thomas Hospital in Nashville. She was born in Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and was a unit secretary with River Park Hospital and a member of Bybee Branch Church of Christ. Mrs. Ferrell was preceded in death by her father Jack Bell and a sister Myra Lenore Bell. Survivors include her husband Troy Mitchell Ferrell of McMinnville. Her mother Myra Bell of McMinnville. A twin sister Glenda Faye Bell of McMinnville. Brothers Jack Allen Bell of Lenoir City and David Bryan and wife April Bell of Powell. Several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews also survive. The funeral service will be Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at McMinnville Funeral Home Chapel.
