85 year old Clyde Wooden of Alexandria died Thursday at University Medical Center in Lebanon. Born in DeKalb County, Wooden was a welder, and he attended the Congregational Methodist Church. Wooden was also a U.S. Army veteran. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Hunter Funeral Home in Watertown. Jimmy Johnson, Ben Fuston, and Javin Lawson will officiate and burial will be in the Jones Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 2:00 p.m. Wooden was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Wooden; a son, Clyde Michael Wooden; grandsons, David and Mark Wooden; great grandchild, Kya Fakes; and parents, Ray and Valtie Wooden; and a sister, Inez Ward. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy George Wooden of Alexandria. Children, Lisa Rumsey and Tony Wooden both of Lebanon. Grandchildren, Misty Wooden, Angel and Travis Wooden, Kassi and Chase Martin, and Kendra Dawson. Daughter-in-law, Brenda Wooden of Smithville. Eleven great grandchildren. Jerry Monroe Strickland, Sr
69 year old Jerry Monroe Strickland, Sr. of Alexandria died Thursday at Riverview Medical Center at Carthage. He was a Machinist for TVA, a U.S. Air Force veteran, and a member of the New Middleton Baptist Church. The funeral will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Anderson Funeral Home. Chris Blair will officiate and burial will be in the Brush Creek Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the service. He was preceded in death by his father, Jewell Cornelius Strickland; and an infant son, Danny. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Doris Strickland of Alexandria. Children, Sharon Strickland and Jerry Strickland, Jr. both of Alexandria and Jason and wife Julie Strickland of Hendersonville. Grandchildren, Kristen Strickland and Jessie Strickland both of Alexandria, Skyler Strickland, Peyton Strickland, and Riley Strickland all of Hendersonville. 66 year old Linda Pritchett of Brush Creek died Tuesday at Smith County Healthcare Center in Carthage. She was born in Brush Creek, the daughter of the late Janie Nellene Thomas and Thomas Elmer Pritchett. She was a 1961 graduate of Gordonsville High School. Pritchett worked at the Work Wear Corporation in Alexandria for 30 years. She was a member of the Temple Baptist Church in Smithville. The funeral will be at the Gordonsville Chapel of Bass Funeral Home on Friday at 1:00 p.m. Shane Smith will officiate. Burial will be in the Brush Creek Cemetery with Glenn Pritchett officiating. The family will receive friends at the Gordonsville Chapel on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. She is survived by brothers, Glenn Edward and his wife Ruth Pritchett of Murfreesboro, James “Mutt” and wife Sue Pritchett of Brush Creek, and Dennis Franklin and wife Cathy Pritchett of Manchester. 36 year old Dana Elizabeth LaFever of Smithville died Sunday. She worked for emergency medical services. The funeral will be Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. She is survived by her husband, Eugene LaFever of Smithville. She was a beautician, retired substitute teacher, and a member of the Mount View The Baptist Church. The funeral will be Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Michael Hale will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvie and Wilma Love Puckett. 78 year old Nellie Mary Tyree of Statesville died Sunday at University Medical Center in Lebanon. She was retired from Texas Boot where she worked for 34 years. Tyree was born in Wilson County and she was a member of the Smith Fork Baptist Church. The funeral will be Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at Hunter Funeral Home in Watertown. 38 year old Rocky Shane Harmon of Sneedville died Wednesday at his residence. Harmon, born in Smithville, attended grammar school in Oklahoma, Florida, and Short Mountain and he graduated from Cannon County High School. Harmon was also a member of the Stewart’s Chapel Church of Christ in McMinnville. He is survived by his wife, Pheadra James Harmon of Sneedville. Two sons, London and Rocky Harmon of McMinnville. Two daughters, Vanessa Harmon of Liberty and Victoria Harmon of Short Mountain. Three step children, Kortni Fleenor, Tyler James, and Morgan Fleenor all of Sneedville. His mother, Michelle and husband Keith Slatton of Smithville. His father, Gary Harmon of Altamont. A brother, Stoney Harmon of Campaigne. 73 year old Helen Burgess Mabe VanStrander of Alexandria died Thursday at University Medical Center in Lebanon. She was born in Brush Creek, the daughter of the late Nellie Anne Howell and Harvey McMillan Burgess. She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Franklin Mabe; a daughter, Mary Christine Mabe; and a son, Steve Mabe, Sr. She was later married to Richard Van Strander. She worked for the Wilson County Shirt Company in Watertown and later at Kroger in Lebanon. VanStrander was a homemaker and a member of the Auburntown Church of Christ. The body is at Avant Funeral Home in Alexandria where the service will be Monday at 11:00 a.m. David Dunn and Glenn Ramsey will officiate and burial will be in the Brush Creek Cemeter.
