85 year old Reefus Luna of the Johnson’s Chapel Community died Tuesday at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was a farmer, a Baptist, and a member of the American Legion. The funeral will be Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Alton Caldwell and Joe Neal will officiate and burial will be in the Peeled Chestnut Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Ada Luna and six brothers and three sisters. Survivors include his wife, Ressie Mae Luna of the Johnson’s Chapel Community. Two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Angela Luna, Dwight and Maria Luna all of Johnson’s Chapel. One daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Gelasio Chacon of Johnson’s Chapel. Six grandchildren, Lisa and Larry David Luna, Brian Luna, Heather Hendrien, and Eric and Angel Chacon. One step-grandchild, Kristie Thiele. Four great grandchildren, Sierra and Dakota Hendrien, William Denton, Devina Luna. Several nieces and nephews. Two special friends, Hilda Billings and Robie Young. Special cousin, Ruth Stewart. A host of other family and friends also survive. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Jerry Robert Estes
67 year old Jerry Robert Estes of LaVergne and a native of DeKalb County died Monday at his residence. He was a member of the Webb’s Chapel United Methodist Church and a Business Administrator with Central State. The funeral will be Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Michael Hale will officiate and burial will be in Whorton Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 2:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Jim Estes. Survivors include his wife, Shelia Estes and a son, Robert Estes both of LaVergne. Donations may be made to DeKalb Funeral Chapel to help with funeral expenses, in lieu of flowers.
David Wayne Foye
73 year old David Wayne Foye of Smithville died Tuesday at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was a Methodist and a truck driver. The funeral service will be Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Michael Hale will officiate. Visitation will be Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Bernetta Weinshenk Foye and brothers, Glynn and Randy Foye. Survivors include his wife, Nancy Foye of Smithville. Seven children, Billy Foye of Waynetown, Indiana, Barbara Williams of Indianapolis, Indiana; Robert Foye of Lebanon, Brian Foye of Smithville, Betty Meletti of Cleveland, Ohio; Bradley Foye of Winterpark, Florida; and Bruce Foye of Lima, Ohio; a sister, Anette Hitch of Crawfordsville, Indiana; brothers, Greg Foye of Crawfordsville, Indiana, Jerry Foye of Highland, Indiana, Jim Foye of Hawaii, and Ken Foye of Wisconsin. Twelve grandchildren and ten great grandchildren also survive. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Rachel May Johnson Ferrell
67 year old Rachel May Johnson Ferrell of Midway died Monday at NHC of McMinnville. She was employed by Pinehill Plastics in Greenhill. Ferrell was also a member of the Covenant Fellowship in Morrison. The funeral will be Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Kenny McNatt will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.; Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.; and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe E. Ferrell; parents, James and Bertha Holt Johnson; two brothers, James Howard Johnson and George Wesley Johnson; and two sisters, Sarah Evelyn Johnson and Katherine Beard. Survivors include two sons, Mark and wife Marsha Ferrell and Joe Ferrell all of Midway. Three brothers, Dennis Lester Johnson of Franklin, Ronald Eugene Johnson of Thompson Station, Robert and wife Gladys Johnson of Mount Pleasant. Two sisters, Mary Frances and husband Ross Barnes of Sparta and Linda Allene and husband Ralph McCormack of McMinnville. One grandchild, Gabrielle Elyse Ferrell. 73 year old Jack A. Midgett of Smithville died Sunday at his residence. He attended the Smithville Church of Christ. Midgett was a U.S. Army veteran and he worked for over 25 years with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and he enjoyed gardening. The funeral will be Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Dan Gulley and Tim Woodward will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Monday from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 2:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his wife, Velma Midgett; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jess Nixon Midgett; a brother, Reed Midgett; and a sister, Peggy Farris. Survivors include two sons, Jack Allen, Jr. and his wife Robin A. Midgett and Casey Lee and his wife LeVaughnda Midgett all of Smithville. Three grandchildren, Matthew Midgett, Sarah and husband Jay Patrich, and Luke Midgett. One great grandchild Claire Patrich. His step-mother, Verna Midgett of Smithville. 60 year old Johnnie Mai Allmon of Smithville died Monday at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a retired caregiver and a Baptist. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Tim Woodward will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in McMinnville. Visitation will be Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 11:00 a.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Mildred Greene Allmon and a brother, David Allmon. Survivors include sisters, Joyce Poss of Smithville and Mary Campbell of Alexandria. A brother, Joe Allmon of Mount Juliet. Several nieces and nephews also survive. 91 year old Grace Vaught Donnell of Watertown died Saturday at NHC Health Care Center of Murfreesboro. She was a homemaker, a graduate of Watertown High School, and a member of the Watertown First Presbyterian Church. The funeral will be Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at Hunter Funeral Home in Watertown. Tim Diffenderfer will officiate and burial will be in the Jones Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Howard Donnell; a son, Jimmy Donnell; a daughter-in-law, Joan Donnell; parents, Albert and Carrie Vaught; and a sister, Sarah Griffin. She is survived by a son, Albert and his wife Susan Donnell of Auburntown. A daughter, Diane Warren of Dallas, Georgia. Four grandchildren, Tammy and husband Mike Griffin of Alexandria, Tony and wife Jennifer Donnell of Watertown, Donna and husband Clay Myers of Loganville, Georgia, and Bo Warren of Monroe, Georgia. Nine great grandchildren, Tara and Tyler Griffin, Brandon and wife Kalah Donnell, Travis, Logan, and Jacob Donnell, Cole, Garrett, and Owen Myers. One great great grandson, Carson Donnell. Hugh J. George
76 year old Hugh J. George died Friday. He was a native of Davidson County and son of the late H. J. and Nettie George. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel with burial in the Town Cemetery in Smithville. George is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sammie Foster George; sons Jeff and his wife Kim George and Mike and his wife Robin George; grandchildren, Rhiannon Huffman, Patrick Vest, Kayla George, and Chad George; three sisters, Violet Alexander of Louisiana, Lois and husband Jack Sloan of Nashville, and Myrna Miller of Murfreesboro; and several nieces and nephews. George was a member of Riggs Church of Christ and was retired from Kraft Corporation after 36 years in sales. Memorials in memory of Mr. George may be made to Caris Healthcare. Judy Lee Turner
60 year old Judy Lee Turner of Smithville died Tuesday at NHC Healthcare Center. She was a homemaker and a member of the New Home Baptist Church. The funeral will be Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Michael Hale will officiate and burial will be in the Keith Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 8:00 a.m. until the service at 11:00 a.m. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Skinner; parents, Clifford and Thelma Turner; a sister, Mildred Poss; and a brother, Mark Turner. Survivors include children, Monroe Skinner, Terry Skinner, and Greta Davis. Seven grandchildren. Brothers, Eddie Turner, Ricky Turner, Michael Turner and his companion Regina Branham, and Richard Turner all of Smithville. Many cousins also survive. Michael Lee Owen
55 year old Michael Lee Owen of Smithville, long time business owner, died Monday morning at his residence from complications of Multiple Sclerosis. He was Assistant Manager to his father, Wendell Owen for the Grandpa Fair of the South in Alexandria for many years, and also of the Dairy Queen of Smithville until 1997; Owner and manager of Just a Hair Better Barber and Beauty Shop in Smithville; Master Barber; and a real estate agent with Center Hill Realty. He was appointed to the State of Tennessee Barber Board by Governor Lamar Alexander and was elected President of the Barber Board for the State of Tennessee. He was 1st runner up in the national platform hair cutting competition. Mike was named one of the 100 most outstanding musicians in the history of the DeKalb County High School Marching Band for the trumpet. He attended Middle Tennessee State University and Middle Tennessee Styling and Barber College. He was a rodeo calf roper, fisherman, hunter, and Harley Davidson rider, devoted husband and father. Owen was preceded in death by his parents, Juanita Armstrong Owen and Wendell Lee Owen. He is survived by his wife, Louise Williams-Owen; daughters, Holly Rena Owen and Ashley Nicole Owen; Granddaughter, Madison Grace Bogle all of Smithville; Sister-in-law and Brother-in-law, Geraldine and David Yoest of Statesville; Brother-in-law and Sister-in-law, Charles and Sylvia Williams of Roswell, Georgia; Brother-in-law, Gerald “Jerry” Williams of Atlanta, Georgia; Nieces and nephews, Jessica Yoest, Rena and husband Chad Seay, Charles and wife Jennifer Yoest, Lauren and husband Christopher Deese, Jaclyn Williams; Aunts and uncles, Mary Ruth Groom, Beulah Johnson, Delma and Jean Armstrong, Velma and Joe Turner, Robbie Owen, and Donna and Jim Sherrill, and many beloved cousins and second cousins also survive.
