Douglas Barrett age 69 of Sparta and a former resident of Smithville, passed away Sunday night at NHC HealthCare in Sparta. He was born May 3, 1947 to his parents the late George Truman Barrett and Bertie crook Barrett. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Barrett and 1 daughter, Melody Guinn. Douglas was a member of the Shiloh Church of God of Prophecy and retired from Powermatic. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Goodwin Barrett of Sparta; 5 children, Angela (Shawn) Puckett of Smithville, Tommy (Stacie) Barrett of Shelbyville, Mitzi Sheryl Lunsford of Cookeville, Lee Reynolds (Kathy Davis) of LaVergne, Chris (Gina) Goodwin of Cleveland; 12 grandchildren, Shawna (Joseph) Matherne, John Puckett, Cain and Ethan Barrett, John (Jamie) Driver, Jennifer (Daniel) Butterbaugh, Tayla (Braden) Wade, Brandon and Amber Reynolds, Tiffany, Tyler, T.J. Goodwin; 1 great-grandson, Caleb Matherne; mother, Bertie Barrett of Alexandria; 2 brothers, Hoyte (Faye) Barrett of Smithville; Donald Barrett of Alexandria; sister, Rita (Gary) Beshearse of Smithville; special friends, Alfred Vinson and Bob (Ruth) Rice. Funeral services will be 2:PM Thursday at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. B. J. Thomason and Bro. Chad Bagley officiating and burial will follow in Prosperity Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Wednesday 2:PM until 8:PM and Thursday 10:AM until the time of the service at 2:PM. Ray Donald “Rusty” Webb

Ray Donald “Rusty” Webb age 71 of Smithville passed away Saturday night, April 1, 2017 at NHC HealthCare Center of an extended illness. He was born December 13, 1945 to his parents, the late Clyde and Irene Webb. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, W.H. Webb. Ray Donald’s heartbeat and passion was baseball, he coached Little League Baseball from 1966 to 2005, he took the 1988 Little League Team to the CABA World Series in Des Moines, IA, where they came in 5th place. He was a member of Webb’s Chapel United Methodist Church and a farmer and nurseryman. He leaves behind to cherish his memory a family that loved him and to whom he was “Papa”, including his wife of 50 years, Betty Webb of Smithville; 4 children, Tracie (Greg) Baker, Tara (Michael) Hale, Trena (Anthony) Ferrell and Tad (Tracy) Webb all of Smithville; 10 grandchildren, Kalab Ferrell (Faith Eldridge), Rayanna (Chris) Chapman, Kayla (Chad) Harvey, Jaley Hale, Kadee Ferrell, Ty Webb, Maddox Hale, Tucker Webb, Tate Webb and J.T. (Roni) Baker; 3 great-grandchildren, Rusty Chapman, Jack Harvey and Haddeigh Harvey; 3 sisters, Sue Dexter Beshearse and Gail (Doyle) Slager both of Dowelltown and Patty (Eddie) Malone of Smithville. Several nieces, nephews and friends also survive. Funeral services will be held 4 PM Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Michael Hale and Don Nixon officiating and burial will follow in DeKalb Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday 12 Noon until 8 PM and Tuesday 10:AM until the time of the service at 4 PM. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of NHC and Avalon Hospice for the wonderful care and love shown to Papa. Ella Rich

Ella Rich age 67 of Smithville, passed away Thursday night at NHC HealthCare Center in Smithville. She was born December 4, 1949 to her parents, the late Isaac Richard and Ruth Arrie West Melton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donnie Rich; 2 brothers, Harlon and James Melton; 1 sister, Anna Belle “Ann” Young. Ella was a faithful member of the Mt. Hope The Baptist Church and was a retired Daycare Provider and Homemaker. She leaves to cherish her memories 2 children, Kevin (Nikole) Rich of Meridianville, AL and Kortny (Eric) Blaylock of Sparta; 5 grandchildren, Landin, Dylin, and Masin Rich, Brooklynn and Brody Blaylock; 1 brother, Carlon (Mainell) Melton of Smithville and 1 sister, Eva (Dennis) Roller of Dowelltown; several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and church family also survive. Funeral services will be Sunday, April 2, 2017 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bros. Frank Randolph and Garry McBride officiating and interment to follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Anna Lou Barnes Adams

58 year old Anna Lou Barnes Adams of Smithville died Thursday at her residence. She was a Baptist and a former employee of Tenneco. The family has chosen direct cremation however a memorial service will be announced later. No visitation will be held. She was preceded in death by her parents, George Barnes and Betty Jean White Braswell; husband, Ricky Dale Adams and a daughter, Natasha “Tasha” West. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Dana West of Smithville. A daughter, Alicia Adams of Nebraska. Six grandchildren, Jacob Helms of Nashville, Emily Northcut of McMinnville, Brandon Sykes, Sadie and Shelby West all of Smithville, and Michael Florez of Nebraska. One sister, Berna Barnes of Smithville and one brother, Charlie Barnes of McMinnville. Sister-in-law, Brenda and Dale Buck of Silver Point. Several nieces, nephews, and friends also survive. Steven Lee Gandy

62 year old Steven Lee Gandy of Smithville died Thursday at Alive Hospice in Nashville. He was a Baptist and a retired construction worker. The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in Whorton Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 2-8 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. until the service at 2 p.m. Gandy was preceded in death by his parents, Lee Van Gandy and Lillian Inez Moore Rigsby; and a brother, Dwight Redmon. Survivors include two daughters, Leslie and Bruce Parsley of Smithville. and Stephanie and Glenn Sparks of Sparta. One son, Steven Levan and Paula Gandy of Smithville. Four grandchildren, Courtney and Dustin Estes, Conner Rice, Micah Gandy, and Nevaeh Gandy all of Smithville. Three step grandchildren, Jacob, Kristen, and Katherine Parsley of Smithville. One sister and brother-in-law Patricia and David Redmon of Smithville and one brother and sister-in-law, Dwayne and Ponzella Redmon of Smithville. Several nieces and nephews survive. JoAnn Webb Sandlin

Mrs. JoAnn Webb Sandlin, 77, a McMinnville resident and Smithville native, was born October 08, 1939, and died Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at the Webb House in Smithville, TN, following an extended illness.
She was a homemaker and had child care in her home for many years. She was a member of the McMinnville Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and the daughter of the late Hampton and Winnie Webb. She was also preceded in death by one sibling, Doris Webb, and brothers-in-law Lester Franks and Thwaitt Wall.
Mrs. Sandlin is survived by her husband of 57 years, James Edmon Sandlin; daughters and sons-in-law Teresa and Manuel McCurry of McMinnville, TN, and Melanie and Joe Matheney of Cookeville, TN; four grandchildren, Ryan Palombo, Justin Matheney and fiancé Kandace Hanna, Kyle McCurry, and Jarred and Sara Matheney. She is also survived by sisters; Era Franks of Manchester, TN, and Kathleen Wall of Smithville, TN; sister-in-law and husband Violet and Melvin Carr. She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, April 01, 2017, in the McMinnville Funeral Home Chapel. Harry Green and Fay Tucker will officiate. Interment will follow at DeKalb Memorial Gardens in Smithville, TN. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 P.M. until 8 P.M. and again Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. at McMinnville Funeral Home.

John Leonard Johnson

42 year old John Leonard Johnson of Smithville died Wednesday at his residence. He was a member of the Smithville Church of Christ and Director of Foster Care and Adoption for the State of Tennessee. The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the Smithville Church of Christ. Dan Gulley will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Thomas W. “Tommy” Moore, Jr. age 71 of the Sycamore Community passed away Tuesday afternoon March 28, 2017 at his residence. He was born August 29, 1945 to his parents, the late Thomas Walker and Lillie Mae Waggoner Moore. Tommy was a construction worker and a member of Dowelltown United Methodist Church. 70 year old Emma Lee Conaster of Smithville died Monday at her residence. She was a Baptist. The funeral will be Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Mike Satterfield will officiate and burial will be in Whorton Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-8 p.m. and Wednesday from 11 a.m. until the service at 1 p.m. She was preceded in death by her mother, Floyd D. Wilson; brother, Charles Wilson; sisters, Betty Wilson, Crystal Wilson, and Lynn Wilson; and great granddaughter Gracelynn Sherrill. Survivors include a daughter, Barbara and Sam Noyola of Smithville. A son, Winton and Jodie Conaster of Greenville. Greg Bogle age 48 of Liberty passed away Sunday March 26, 2017 at St. Thomas DeKalb ER. He was born September 5, 1968 to his parents Thomas and the late Annie Lou Hale Bogle. He was a farmer.
