69 year old Larrie Delmer Morton of Bradyville died Saturday. He was born in Peebles, Ohio. His parents were the late Delmer Morton and Beryl (Overly) Morton. He is also preceded in death by two brothers. Morton is survived by his wife, Linda Morton of Bradyville; three sons, Doug and wife Julie Morton of Murfreesboro, and Bill Morton and Scott Morton of Ohio; two daughters, Teresa Waugh and Sherry Moccabee of Ohio; a sister, Janet Steary of Murfreesboro and eleven grandchildren. Morton was a veteran of the U. S. Navy. In previous years, he had worked for Tilford Lumber in Cannon County Sportswear and Cumberland Swan. Visitation will be Monday, from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel. E.L. Williams will officiate and burial will be in Coleman Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to assist with funeral expenses. Linda Edell Brady
76 year old Linda Edell Brady of McMinnville died Saturday at Raintree Manor in McMinnville. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. The funeral will be Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Carson Rust will officiate and burial will be in the Mount View Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hershel and Bessie Jaco Young; her husband, Johnny Doyle Brady; a son, Michael Dewayne Johnson Brady; two sisters, Janie Harding and Edna Merritt; and two brothers, Thomas Young and Sammy Young. Survivors include two sons, Johnny Dean Brady, Sr. of McMinnville and Charlie and wife Kim Brady of McMinnville. One daughter, Linda Gail Brady of McMinnville. 78 year old Bratten Barrett of Watertown died Saturday at his residence. He was born in DeKalb County, a barber for over 45 years, a member of the Round Lick Baptist Church, and a U.S. Army Korean War Veteran. The funeral will be Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the Round Lick Baptist Church. Steve Mayle will officiate and burial will be in the Sycamore Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Monday from 10:00 a.m. until noon at Hunter Funeral Home in Watertown. Visitation will be Monday from noon until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. at the church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pete Barrett and Ella Spurlock Barrett. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Barrett of Watertown. Children, Bratten L. and his wife Carol Barrett of Hermitage, Tim Barrett of Watertown, and Kim and husband Gilliam Vastola of Watertown. Jewel “Red” Mabe
83 year old Jewel “Red” Mabe of Smithville died Friday at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was a member of the Smithville First Baptist Church for over 50 years. Mabe was also a World War II U.S. Army Veteran, A Shriner, member of Masonic Lodge #77, and the Eastern Star. He was retired from the Carrier Corporation. The funeral will be Monday at 1:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Bill Palmitter will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. Mabe was preceded in death by his parents, Aaron and Lola Pollard Mabe; his wife, Guynell Mabe; a step-daughter, Carol Looney; two sisters, Hazel Pauline Billings and Roena Mabe; and two brothers, Jerry Wayne Mabe and Harold Louis Mabe. Survivors include one son, Eddie Mabe of Smithville. A step-daughter, Glenda and husband Danny Staley of Smithville. Four step-grandchildren, Tina Rowland, Lee Ann Williams, Don and Jimmy Crips. Six step great grandchildren, Zachery Rowland, Hunter and Caled Williams, Britany, Chloe, and Stormie Crips. 19 year old Michael Andrew Elliott of Smithville died Friday. He was a member of the Smithville First United Methodist Church and an employee at Gordon’s Hardware. The funeral will be Tuesday at noon at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Mark Pafford and John Purdue will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service at noon. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Murray and Frances Rhinehart and James Parham. Survivors include his parents, Susan and Gordon Parham of Smithville and Mark and Michelle Elliott of Murfreesboro. 71 year old Melvin Hoyt Poss of McMinnville died Thursday at River Park Hospital in McMinnville. He was born in DeKalb County, owner of Melvin Poss Construction Company, and a member of the Newtown The Baptist Church. The funeral will be Sunday at noon at McMinnville Funeral Home Chapel. Elder Greg Hibdon and Elder Virgil Hibdon, Jr. will officiate and burial will follow at Mount View Cemetery in DeKalb County. The Poss family will receive friends Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. until noon at McMinnville Funeral Home. 35 year old Kevin Eugene Sanders of Smithville was pronounced dead on arrival Thursday night at DeKalb Community Hospital. He attended the People’s Pentecostal Church. Sanders was also a tree trimmer. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Robert Presley will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 2:00 p.m. He is survived by his parents, Chester and Pat Sanders of Smithville. 82 year old Wallace Ray Blackford of Smithville died Wednesday at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was retired from Rath Meat Packing Company, a Baptist, and a veteran of World War II. The funeral will be Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Ralph Benningfield will officiate and burial will be in the Blackford Cemetery. Visitation wil be Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Wenger Blackford; his parents, Aubrey and Daisy Coin Blackford; his step-mother, Frances Blackford; and a brother, Lawrence Blackford. Survivors include a daughter, Susan Reeder; four sons, Steve and Doug Blackford, Dennis and his wife Shirley Blackford all of Smithville, and John and his wife Janis Blackford of Wisconsin. 84 year old Lorell Parsley Hobson of Smithville, affectionately known as “Mama Lo” died Wednesday at her daughter’s residence. She was a retired garment factory worker. The funeral will be Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the Smithville First United Methodist Church where she was a member. Terry Little will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel and Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. at the church. She was preceded in death by her parents, C.V. and Ophia Parsley and brothers, Howard and Chester Parsley. The funeral will be Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Frances Foster will officiate and burial will be in the Braswell Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.; Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.; and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Flonnie Kent Self. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Barbara Braswell Self of Smithville. A son, Bobby and his wife Tia Self of Oklahoma. A daughter, Kathy Casher of Florida. Six grandchildren, Chelsea Putnam of Florida, Zak Self of Nashville, Jordan, Morgan, Quinn, and Rylee Self all of Oklahoma.
