Virgie Lee Colwell

91 year old Virgie Lee Colwell of Lawrenceburg died Friday at the Maury Regional Hospital in Columbia. She was retired from the Valdor Shirt Factory and a member of the Sanctuary United Pentecostal Church in Hohenwald. The funeral will be Monday at 1:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Jack Tidrick and Walter Droke will officiate and burial will be in the Cannady Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Baxter Colwell. Grandchildren, Lonnie Earl Colwell, Jr. and Tori Danielle Stacy; parents, Luther Marvin and Elizabeth Taylor Gay; brothers, Homer and Gentry Gay; sisters, Pauline Murphy, Dorothy Gay, Bertha Clause, and Annie Sparkman. She is survived by children, Lonnie and his wife Joyce Colwell of Lebanon, Geneva and husband Jack Tidrick of Murfreesboro, Maxie and wife Leona Colwell of Liberty, and Fay and husband Tip Melton of Lawrenceburg. Six grandchildren, Christie Tindle, Wendy Casselberry, Tonya Williams, Shawn Colwell, Tammye Grantham, and Blake Melton. Eleven great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren. Billy Finis Nixon

79 year old Billy Finis Nixon of Watertown died Wednesday at Cedars Health Care Center in Lebanon. He was a farmer, construction worker, and a member of the Malone’s Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. The funeral will be Friday at 1:00 p.m. at Hunter Funeral Home in Watertown. Mike Gay and Bill Shaw will officiate and burial will be in the Hillview Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Nixon was preceded in death by his parents, Pirl and Eltie Nixon; a brother, George Nixon; and sisters, Virginia Starnes and Henry Ellis. Survivors include his wife, Nettie Ann Foutch Nixon of Watertown. Two sons, Billy Gerald and his wife Brenda Nixon and Richard Wayne Nixon all of Watertown. Three grandchildren, Rachel and her husband Jackie Russell of Pleasant Shade, Jason Nixon of Knoxville, and Jeff and his wife Sarah Nixon of Arrington. Betty Joyce Cruz

66 year old Betty Joyce Cruz of Mundelin, Illinois died Saturday at the Condell Medical Center. She was a customer service representative with the Baxter Medical Supply Company. The funeral will be Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Virgil Hibdon, Jr. will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 11:30 a.m. Cruz was preceded in death by her parents, Allen and Roslyn Johnson Stephens and two brothers, Harold and Milton Stephens. Survivors include her husband, Raymond Cruz of Illinois. Three sisters, Emogene and her husband Justice Hyde of Franklin, Margaret Haydock of Ohio, and Dianne and husband Jackie Richardson of LaFayette. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Dewey Bauswell

80 year old Dewey Bauswell of Smithville died Saturday at his residence. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a tool and die maker. The funeral will be Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Rannie Phillips will officiate and burial will be in the Banks Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. Bauswell was preceded in death by his wife, Vergie Saddler Bauswell and a son, Dewey Bauswell. Survivors include a granddaughter, Laura and her husband Shannon Cook of Smithville. Great grandchildren, Kayla, Savanna and Ashley Hershman, Cassidy, Austin, and Dustin Cook all of Smithville. Robert Blair Sloan

86 year old Robert Blair Sloan of Smithville died Friday at Raintree Manor in McMinnville. He was a member of AmVets, a truck driver, and a farmer. The family has chosen direct cremation. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ida Belle Sloan; a son, Jack Fred Sloan; and three brothers. Survivors include a daughter, Karen Price of Doyle; granddaughters, Kindra Price, Karolyn Curtis, and Larry Frasier all of Sparta. Numerous great grandchildren also survive. Sergeant Rachel Lynn Wilson

36 year old Sergeant Rachel Lynn Wilson of Mount Juliet died on arrival at Middle Tennessee Medical Center in Murfreesboro after an automobile accident on Wednesday. She served in the U.S. Army with a tour of duty in Iraq. She was also a member of the Tennessee Army National Guard. She was also a member of the Clark Chapel Baptist Church. The funeral will be Monday at 2:00 p.m. at High Funeral Home in McMinnville. Gary McBride, Anthony Pelham, and Captain Mark Phillips will officiate and burial will be in the Gardens of Memory in Warren County. Military grave rites will be conducted by the Tennessee Army National Guard Honor Guard. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the service. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Harry and Louise Wilson and Hobert and Cyrena Barnes; uncles, Jim Wilson and Johnny Barnes; and an aunt, Marzell Ray. Survivors include her parents, Cindy and Youman “Nudge” Barnes of the Belk Community. A brother, Greg Barnes of Rock Island. Special uncle and aunt, Steve and Pita Wilson of Lebanon. 82 year old Bro. J. H. Jackson of Smithville died Thursday morning at Baptist Hospital in Nashville. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran and a Minister. He was pastor of the Gospel of Faith Independent Missionary Baptist Church. The funeral will be Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. David Farless, Lash Rice, and Marty Goddard will officiate and burial will be in the Gordonsville Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 10:00 a.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hoy and Bertha Troutman Jackson; a daughter, Linda Carol Jackson; and brothers, John Jackson, Carl Jackson, Ed Jackson, Hoy Jackson, Jr., and Stanley Jackson. Survivors include his wife Ruth Jackson of Smithville. Children, Donnie Jackson of Lebanon, Darlene Ferrell of Lebanon, Cathy Miller of Knoxville, and Shelia Austin of Kentucky. Morgan Elizabeth Mayo, the five month old daughter of Payton and Kelly Mayo of Shelbyville, died Wednesday at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital in Nashville. The funeral will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Fair Haven Baptist Church, 2726 Highway 231 N. Shelbyville. Dan Reed, Ronnie Grooms, and Jeff Pennington will officiate and burial will be in Pressgrove Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the church. 64 year old Link Young of Smithville died Tuesday at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was a retired manager of Thermo Gas. The family has chosen direct cremation. There will be no visitation. He was preceded in death by his wife, Flo Young; and parents, Herbert and Audrey Young. Survivors include one daughter, Heidi and her husband Dennis Turner of Nashville.
