Jerry “Squirrel” Kent

57 year old Jerry “Squirrel” Kent of Smithville died Monday at his residence. He was a retired body technician at Mark’s Body Shop and a member of Mount Herman Baptist Church. The funeral will be Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Dave Carden will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.; Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.; and Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Caril Edward and Iva Dell Johnson Kent; one brother, Mike Kent; and a sister, Peggy Faye Kent. Survivors include his wife, Regina Kent. A son, Tyler Kent of Smithville. Two sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda and William Farmer and Shirley and Bob Lowe all of Lebanon. Georgia L. Frazier

72 year old Georgia L. Frazier of Dowelltown died Monday at her residence. She was a homemaker. The family has chosen direct cremation. There will be no visitation. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Bertie Johnson Stanley; her husband, Norman Frazier; three brothers, Willie, Robert, and Hiram Stanley; and three sisters, Gertie Bain, Jessie Bain, and Bonnie Fuson. Survivors include two sisters, Lillian Taylor of Liberty and Dixie Sweeton of Smithville. One brother, Wayne Stanley of Murfreesboro, and several nieces and nephews. Ruby Inez Nokes

75 year old Ruby Inez Nokes of Smithville died Sunday at St. Mary’s Hospice in Knoxville. She was a retired factory worker and a member of the New Bildad Primitive Baptist Church. The funeral will be Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Ricky Arnold will officiate and burial will be in the New Bildad Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 2:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvie and Bertha Pedigo Asburn; a son, John Thomas Cantrell; four brothers, J.B., James, Harley, and Silas Ashburn; and two sisters, Willie Bee Moore and Gladys Linder. Survivors include her husband, Floyd L. Nokes of Smithville. Two daughters, Rita Washer of Knoxville and Wanda Johannsen of Smyrna. Four granddaughters, Beverly Sutton and Monica Trotterchaud both of Knoxville, Christy Spears of Smithville, and Rebecca Johannsen of McMinnville. John R. Vandergriff

76 year old John R. Vandergriff of Tullahoma died Thursday at Harton Regional Medical Center. Vandergriff was the owner of Randolph and Vandergriff Incorporated and a member of Victory Baptist Church, the Tullahoma Downtown Lions Club and he was a Shriner and Mason. Vandergriff was a veteran of the Korean War, where he served in the Air Force. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Macon Dutton Vandergriff and one brother, Gaston Vandergriff. Survivors include; Helen Bell, three daughters, Janet Dunn and husband Lee of Portland, Sandra Jo Vandergriff of Nashville, and Patricia DeVille of Murfreesboro; a special grandson, Jonathan Rodriguez of Shelbyville; two nephews, Bobby and wife Kathy Vandergriff and Terry Vandergriff; and special friends, Danny Wayne and Martha Bell, Johnny and Lisa Rodriguez, and a host of grand nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday at Kilgore Funeral Home in Tullahoma. The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday at Kilgore Funeral Home Chapel. 76 year old June Judkins Nixon of Smithville died Friday night at DeKalb Community Hospital of an extended illness. She was a member of the Smithville First United Methodist Church and a homemaker. A public graveside service and burial will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Randall Ganues will officiate. Visitation will be Saturday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until 1:45 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel at which time the body will be taken to the cemetery for the graveside service. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Mae Redmon Judkins and brothers, Dean, Lynn, and Jimmy Judkins. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, John Robert Nixon of Smithville. Two daughters, Gwen and her husband Harrell Tolbert and Sandra and her husband J.C. Wall all of Smithville. A granddaughter, Tara Tolbert of Smithville. 101 year old Fannie Elizabeth Foster of Lebanon died Tuesday at Cedars Health Care Center. She was a homemaker and a member of the Elizabeth Chapel Baptist Church. The funeral will be Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Michael Hale will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hollie Alton Foster; a son, Carl L. Foster; parents, Lemval H. and Ella Johnson Shields; a sister, Nora McGeorge; and brothers, Barney and Alfred Shields. 77 year old Eldon H. Henderson, a resident of the Peeled Chestnut Community, died Tuesday at his residence. The funeral will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Plainview Cemetery at Cassville. The family will receive friends Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Hunter Funeral Home in Sparta. 92 year old Roeba Mae Jones of McMinnville (Dibrell Community) died Monday at River Park Hospital in McMinnville She was in DeKalb County, was a homemaker and a member of Bybee Branch Church of Christ. Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her parents William Henry and Canzaday Blankenship Mitchell, her husband Gentry A.Z. Jones, her sisters Austia Ray and Hallie Jane Cantrell, her brother George J. Mitchell, and son-in-law Ken Lee.
Survivors include her children Glyna Lee of McMinnville,, Donna and Doug Thweatt of Gallatin, Jane and Phil Bennett and Brenda and Richard Bumbalough all of McMinnville, her grandchildren Tammie and Alan Greer of Dallas, Texas, Melissa and Craig Sprinkles of Mooresville, North Carolina, Leann Bennett, Jason and Lynn Bumbalough, Jennifer and Chris Mears, and Mike Lee all of McMinnville, and great-grandchildren Leah and Lauren Sprinkles, Kellie and Carrington Bumbalough, and Kelly and Nick Greer. 83 year old Repsie Johnson of Smithville died Tuesday at his residence. He was a retired Mill Wright worker with the Chrysler Corporation and a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church. The funeral will be Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. There will be no visitation on Thursday. Visitation Friday will be from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Pearlie Bratcher Johnson and a son, Greg Johnson. James Edward Tramel and Zora Inez Tramel

87 year old James Edward Tramel and his wife 90 year old Zora Inez Tramel both of Dowelltown died Saturday at their residence. The funeral for both will be Wednesday at noon at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Elder Ricky Arnold and Wayne Simmons will officiate and burial will be in the Snow Hill Methodist Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at noon. Mr. Tramel was a member of the Snow Hill United Methodist Church. He was retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and TVA. Mrs. Tramel was a member of the Pisgah United Methodist Church. She was also a homemaker. Mr. Tramel was preceded in death by his parents, Dennis and Julie Arnold Tramel; brothers, Reverend Ernest Tramel, Walter Tramel, and Haskell Tramel; sisters, Nancy Nokes, Velma English, Elrisia Whitlock, Lena Van, Beatrice Bryant, and Myrtle Smith. Mrs. Tramel was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Nancy L. Zora Close Ellis; a brother, Clarence Ellis; and a sister, Fannie Lillian Carr. The Tramels are survived by their children, Reverend James Paul Tramel of Clarksville and Linda Faye and husband Ron Phelps of Dalton, Georgia. Grandchildren, Todd Alan Phelps of Dalton, Georgia and Mark Andrew Phelps of Atlanta, Georgia. Three grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren. Mr. Tramel is also survived by a brother, Calvin Tramel of Smithville; sisters, Ethel Keith Ashford of Smithville and Ruby Deal of Nashville.
