Betty Sue Sullens

86 year old Betty Sue Sullens of Woodbury died Saturday at her residence. She was a member of the Short Mountain United Methodist Church. She was also retired from Carrier and a homemaker. The funeral will be Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Bratten Tucker and Royce Martin will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Monday from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Brown Sullens; parents, Roy and Allie Mae Grizzle Hale; brothers, Walter Hale and Joe Swan Hale; and sisters, Oleta Taylor and Virginia Wood. Survivors include her children, Jonelle and husband Jim Bratcher of Woodbury, Peggy and husband Donnie Scott of McMinnville, Regina and husband Pete Sadler of Dearborn, Michigan, and Frank and wife Darlene Sullens of Morrison. Grandchildren, Jason and Joel Bratcher, Corey and wife Joann Sadler, Leslie and husband Jon Martin, Jenna Sullens and fiancee Josh Winfree, Brian Scott, and Cody and wife Wendy Sullens. Lillie Mai Young

90 year old Lillie Mai Young of Smithville died Sunday at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a homemaker and a member of the Mount View The Baptist Church. The funeral will be Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Young Bend Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from noon until 9:00 p.m.; Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.; and Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Young; parents, Ben and Lizzie Young Taylor; a son, Eddie Wayne Young; and four brothers and three sisters. Survivors include one son, James and his wife Jeanette Young of Smithville. Three daughters, Helen and husband Rick Lee of Smithville, Carolyn and husband John Whitley of Mount Juliet, and Judy and husband Alan Rodgers of Hendersonville. Nine grandchildren, Ronny and Nancy Young of Smithville, Kim and Glyn Banks of Smithville, Donna and Kenny Schell of Mount Juliet, John and Becky Whitley of Mount Juliet, Rachel and Garth Branch of Clarksville, Meredith and Chris Lacey of New York, and Misty Felton of Knoxville. Thirteen great grandchildren, Aaron, Kara and Alyssa Young, Ashley and James Whitley, Whitley and Kenny Wayne Schell, Anna Branch, Ben and Maggie Felton, Christopher and Brianna Lacy, and Eli Rodgers. 75 year old Wilma Ruth Adkins of Smithville died Thursday at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a Free Will Baptist and a dietician for DeKalb Hospital and Knowles Hospital. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Gary Adkins will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Saturday from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and Sunday from noon until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Landy Lee and Edna Lucille Evans Curtis; sisters, Jessie Dunn and Naomi Curtis; and brothers, Arthur Curtis and David Lee Curtis. Adkins is survived by a son, Gary Adkins of Smithville. Grandchildren, Emily and Katie Adkins of Huntington, West Virginia. Bobby Hodges

68 year old Bobby Hodges of Milan and formerly of the Mount Pisgah Community died Tuesday at Milan. He was a retired factory worker, a Mason, and a Shriner. The funeral will be Friday at 1:00 p.m. at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Hodges Family Cemetery. A Masonic service will be Friday at 12:30 p.m. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Marie Driver Hodges and a brother, Danny Ray Hodges. Survivors include a daughter, Marie and husband Steve Yoemans. A granddaughter, Whitney Sawyers of Milan. A brother, Homer Hodges and a niece, Barbara Stewart of Smithville. Mary Lou Gray Boss

93 year old Mary Lou Gray Boss of Milton died Tuesday at NHC of Smithville. A native of Walker County Georgia, she was the daughter of the late J.M. and Octie Morris Gray. She was a member of Southeast Baptist Church. The funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m Thursday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel in Murfreesboro. Rev. Donald Owen will officiate. A graveside service will be held Thursday at 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time at Trinity Cemetery in Centerpost, Georgia. Larry Underwood will officiate. Mrs. Boss is survived by her three sons and daughters in law, Larry and wife Betty Boss of Alexandria, Jerry and wife Wanda Boss of Woodbury, and Phil and wife Angie Boss of Milton. Six grandchildren, Katina and husband Ben Barrett of Murfreesboro, Joey and wife Kim Boss of Alexandria, Scott and wife Leisha Boss of Shelbyville, Jeff and wife Jessica Boss of Nashville, Brian and wife Sonia Boss of Murfreesboro, and Jennifer Boss of Milton. Five great grandchildren, Matt, Luke, Ashlyn, Alex and Hayden. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Boss is preceded in death by her husband Rev. Clay Henry Boss, her son Benny Boss and three brothers. Virdie Alfred Bennett, Jr

79 year old Virdie Alfred Bennett, Jr. of Smithville died Sunday at DeKalb Community Hospital. The body is at the Gordonsville Chapel of Bass Funeral Home where the service will be Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. Ron Gleaves will officiate and burial will be in the Gordonsville Cemetery. The Bennett family will receive friends at the Gordonsville Chapel on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. He is survived by seven children, Mary I and husband William Murrey of Greenbrier; George Duke and wife Benilda Bennett of Alexandria, Virginia; Paula T. and husband Steve Cole of Hendersonville; Paul James Bennett of Spring Hill; Anna Belle and husband Doug Derryberry of Hermitage; Mark Francis Bennett of El Paso, Texas; and Scott and wife Donna Bennett of Gordonsville. Michael Lynn Kent

55 year old Michael Lynn Kent of Alexandria died Saturday at his residence. He was the son of the late C.E. and Iva Dell Johnson Kent. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Peggy Faye Kent and grandparents, Lula Johnson Vanatta and Claude Johnson; and Edgar and Effie Mae Kent. He was a member of the Upper Helton Baptist Church, a farmer, and employed by the Wilson County Road Commission. He graduated from DeKalb County High School in 1971 and attended Middle Tennessee State University where he played football. A Celebration of Life will be Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at Hunter Funeral Home in Watertown. Jason Groe and Matt Long will officiate and burial will be in the Prosperity Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the service. Kent is survived by his wife, Lynn Roberts Kent and his children, Kelly and husband Brad Driver and Kevin and wife Beth Kent all of Dowelltown. Four grandchildren, Brady and Levi Driver and Wesley and Kaylee Kent. Sisters, Linda and husband William Farmer and Shirley and husband Bob Lowe all of Lebanon. Brothers, Jerry and wife Regina Kent of Smithville and Terry and wife Lisa Kent of Alexandria. Several nieces and nephews also survive. 80 year old Doris Jean Moonyham Jared died Friday night at the Life Care Center of Sparta. She was born in DeKalb County to the late Charlie Earl and Kittie Lou Jones Mooneyham . She was also preceded in death by husband Kelly William Jared and Great Grand-daughter Nicole Ann Barrow-Perez. She was a retired Shirt Factory employee. The funeral will be Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the Shady Grove Methodist Church. Greg Gallaher will officiate and burial will be in the Shady Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the church and from noon until the time of service on Monday. She is survived by a daughter, Sandra Kay Jared Barrow of Sparta .Two sons, Earl Kelly Jared of Smithville and Glen Dale Jared of Nashville. A brother -in-law and sister-in-law, Harold and Martha Jared of Walling. Seven grandchildren: Chaz Barrow, Chasity and husband Jesse Perez, Candace Barrow, Sue Jared, Sara Jared, Monica and husband Chris Tucker, and Megan Jared. 73 year old Mackie Ann Emmert of Smithville died Saturday at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a shirt factory worker and a member of the Smithville Church of Christ. The funeral will be Monday at 1:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Dan Gulley and Tim Woodward will officiate and burial will be in the Bonham Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Malcolm and Elizabeth Cantrell Martin and a brother, Roy Thomas Martin. Danny Lee Kirby

63 year old Danny Lee Kirby of Dowelltown died Wednesday. He was retired from the Nashville Air Port Police Department. He was a Mason and an Army Veteran having served two tours in Vietnam. A final farewell tribute will be Saturday from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at his home at 921 New Home Road. He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Anna Pearl Chaffin Kirby. Survivors include his wife, Terri Kenney Kirby of Dowelltown. Two sons, David and wife Katressa Kirby of Nashville and Eddie and wife Angela Kirby. A daughter, Andrea Williams of Franklin.
