Carmen Coffee Winfree

89 year old Carmen Coffee Winfree of Gordonsville died at her home on Monday. She was born in New Middleton, the daughter of the late Mina Pearl Allen Coffee. She was a 1938 graduate of Gordonsville High School and she attended Watkins Institute Business School in Nashville. Winfree was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Gordonsville where she taught a Sunday School class for several years. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Gordonsville Chapel of Bass Funeral Home. Jason Lohorn and John Winfree will officiate and burial will be in the Brush Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.and after 10:00 a.m. Wednesday. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Lavelle Cheek, Fite Coffee, Glen Coffee, and Fred Coffee; her husband, William Esker Winfree; a son, Wesley Allen Winfree; a daughter, Emily Faye Winfree; and a grandson, Jason Allen Winfree. She is survived by a daughter, Nancy Lewis of Smithville. Sons, William and his wife Donna Winfree of Old Hickory, Wayne and his wife Kim Winfree of Carthage, Ward and his wife Elaine Winfree of Brush Creek. A daughter-in-law, Patsy Winfree of Lebanon, Twelve grandchildren, Amanda and husband Shane Maples, Billy and wife Terra Winfree, Kelly and Toome Brandon, Amy Winfree, Christie and husband Bobby Williams, Beth and husband Kevin Kent, Anna and husband Jamie Sircy, John Winfree, Emmy Winfree, David Esker Winfree, Ryan Winfree and Michael Winfree. Ten great grandchildren, Stephen Maples, Daniel Maples, Wesley Kent, Kaylee Kent, Jacob Williams, Adam Williams, Ashten Williams, Carson Winfree, Avery Brandon, and Macey Brandon. Emily Tittsworth Jones

94 year old Emily Tittsworth Jones of the Dibrell Community died Monday at River Park Hospital in McMinnville. She was born in Warren County and was a homemaker. Jones was also a member of the Dibrell Cumberland Presbyterian Church and a past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star in McMinnville. The funeral will be Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at McMinnville Funeral Home. Lanny Johnson will officiate and burial will be in the Gath Cemetery. The Jones family will receive friends on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at McMinnville Funeral Home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Jones; her parents, Anthony P. and Loudora Jones Tittsworth; a granddaughter, Julie Ann Jones; a sister, Martha Courville; and a brother, James M. Tittsworth. Survivors include a daughter, Helen Vandagriff of McMinnville. Sons, C. Jack and wife Gwyneth Jones of the Green Hill Community, Valton L. and wife Wanda Jones of Rock Island, and Bill M. and wife Winnie Jones of McMinnville. A sister, Ruby Zeller of Baltimore, Maryland. Dorothy Lea Comer Appleton

96 year old Dorothy Lea Comer Appleton of Lancaster died Sunday at NHC Healthcare Center in Smithville. She was a member of the Smithville Church of Christ and a nurse with Vanderbilt Student Health. A graveside service will be Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at the Mount View Cemetery in McMinnville. Dr. Steve Angus will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, George Wheeler and Florance Anderson Comer; her husband, Thomas Mack Appleton; a granddaughter, Shannon Lea Mitchell; and companion, Charley Grigg. Survivors include two children, Emily Appleton Mitchell of Nashville and Thomas Comer Appleton of Lawrenceburg. Four grandchildren and four great grandchildren survive along with a brother, John B. 84 year old Lucille Hale Ferrell of Alexandria died Thursday at her residence. She was a DeKalb County native, a homemaker, and member of the Prosperity Baptist Church. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Hunter Funeral Home in Watertown. Burial will be in the Prosperity Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe D. Ferrell; children, Lou Ann, Joe and John Ferrell; grandchildren, Brian Braswell; Benjamin Bane and Kayla Cantrell; parents, Selmer D. and Bettie Ferrell Hale; a sister, Daisy Murphy; brothers, Selmer Ray, Harrison Lee, L.W., and Selmer D. Hale, Jr. Survivors include a son, Norman and his wife Deborah Ferrell of Alexandria. 73 year old Nan Flanders Hildreth of Smithville died Thursday at Cookeville Regional Hospital. She was a homemaker and a member of the Green Hill Church of Christ. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of High Funeral Home in McMinnville. Archie Pondexter and Nestor Stewart will officiate and burial will be in the Webb Cemetery at Bluff Springs. Visitation will be Saturday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Maude Ophia Green Flanders; her husband, James Alton Hildreth; and a brother, Ammon Flanders. 91 year old Onie M. Durham of Smithville died Thursday at NHC of Smithville. She was a homemaker and a member of the Indian Creek Baptist Church. The funeral will be Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Paul Taylor will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Durham; a daughter, Vella Bell Durham; parents, Isaac and Bell Taylor; and four brothers and sisters. 81 year old Della Hughes of Smithville died Wednesday at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Isabella Oldaker. Survivors include two sons, Larry and his wife Laura Hughes and Paul and his wife Gail Hall of Smithville. Three daughters, Patsy and husband Joe Folsom of Georgia, Shirley and husband Doc Penner of Florida, and Donna and husband Bryan Smith of Smithville. Fourteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren survive. One brother, John and his wife Eyvonne Oldaker of Florida. One sister, Sammy and husband Dennis Yurcisin of New Mexico. Bertie Fuston Hayes

87 year old Bertie Fuston Hayes of Smithville died Sunday at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a cashier for many years at Fuston’s 5 & 10 and she worked as a secretary during World War II for the State Department in Washington D.C.. Hayes was also a member of the Smithville Church of Christ. She graduated in 1940 from Liberty High School and attended Draughon’s Business College in Nashville. The funeral will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Dan Gulley and Tim Woodward will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rex Hayes, Jr.; her parents, Valter Ray and Verna Ballinger Fuston; brothers, Hoyt L. Fuston and Edsel A. Fuston; sisters, Georgia Rae Fuston and Bertha Parker; and an infant sister, Verna Ruth Fuston. Survivors include two daughters, Dr. Peggy E. Hayes of San Diego and Patsy Hayes of Smithville. One sister, Frances and her husband Edward Frazier of Smithville. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins including Susan Frazier Hinton of Smithville. 72 year old Ladye Frank Ezell Sanders of Nashville and Smithville died Thursday. The funeral will be Monday at 2:00 p.m. at Woodbine Funeral Home, Hickory Chapel, 5852 Nolensville Road. 87 year old Benton McMillin Sanders, Jr. of Smithville died Saturday at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville.
