Nola B. Vandergriff

94 year old Nola B. Vandergriff of Smithville died Thursday at NHC Healthcare Center. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. She was also a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star #477 and a real estate secretary/bookkeeper. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. B.J. Thomason will officiate and burial will be in Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Willie and Nola Ford Vandergriff; brothers, Walter Vandergriff and Valter Vandergriff; and sisters, Pauline Moon and Lois Vandergriff. Survivors include nieces, Nelda Sue Burklow, Carolyn and husband Kenneth Mullinax, Debra and husband Mitchell Rowland, Linda and husband Jerry Hassler, Vivian and husband Jimmy Hudson, and Sarah Dean and husband William Carew. Nephews, Wayne and wife Becky Vandergriff, Douglas and wife Shelia Vandergriff, Valter and wife Beth Vandergriff, and Thomas and wife Beverly Moon. Twenty five great nieces and nephews and numerous great, great nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends also survive. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Frankie Elaine Carroll

47 year old Frankie Elaine Carroll of Manchester died Tuesday at Southern Tennessee Medical Center in Winchester. She was a homemaker and a Pentecostal. A graveside service will be Friday at 1:00 p.m. at Center Hill Cemetery. Colby Partin, Christina Grammer, and Robert Presley will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. until noon at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Wilma Murphy Faris; a sister, Betty Jean Farris; and a brother, Eddie Farris. Survivors include her husband, James Carroll of Manchester. One son, Jamie Carroll of Wartburg. A daughter, Candice Carroll of Smithville. Five grandchildren. Two brothers, Jimmy and wife Becky Farris and Robert and wife Linda Farris all of Smithville. 86 year old Virginia Lee Ricketts of Watertown died Tuesday at University Medical Center in Lebanon. She was a homemaker and a member of Fall Creek Baptist Church. The funeral will be Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at Fall Creek Baptist Church with burial at Fairview Cemetery. Billy Trice and Greg Bell will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until noon at Hunter Funeral Home; and from 1:00 p.m. until the service at 2:00p.m. at Fall Creek Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur Vickers and Mary Robinson Vickers; her husband, Riley Ricketts; niece, Elaine Vickers; and an infant twin sister. 80 year old Billy Nixon of Smithville died Tuesday at Dekalb Community Hospital. He was a retired photographer for the U.S. Government and a member of the Elizabeth Chapel Baptist Church. The funeral will be Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bill Robertson will officiate. Burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 11:00 a.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Finis and Jessie Jones Nixon; a sister, Yutharyee Leftwich; one brother, Huel Dee Nixon. 54 year old Kevin Cantrell of Smithville died Monday at his residence. He was manager at the VFW. The funeral will be Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Gary Allen Walper

69 year old Gary Allen Walper of Dowelltown and formerly of Chicago, Illinois died Friday at his residence. He was employed by American Airlines, a U.S. Army veteran, and an active member of the Faith Baptist Church in Smithville. A memorial service will be held at the Faith Baptist Church on Friday at 5:00 p.m. Al Mahan will officiate. He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Florence Schmidt Walper and a brother, Phillip Walper. Survivors include his wife, Patricia Walper. A daughter, Susan and her husband Dr. David Seber. Sons, Steven and his wife Cathryn Walper, Phillip and his wife Heather Walper, and Gary Walper, Jr. Twelve grandchildren, Adam, Amanda, Ashley, Crystal, Andrew, Aaron, Alex, Aiden, Abby, Addison, Julius, and Sam. 90 year old James Robert “Bob” Rush died Wednesday at Riverview Regional Medical Center in Carthage. He was born in Davidson County, a Chrysler factory employee, and a veteran of the U.S. Navy and Army. The funeral will be Friday at 3:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. Jason Groe will officiate and burial will be in Hillview Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Friday from noon until the service. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Simon Rush and Pearl Hatton Starnes and a niece. Visitation will be Wednesday from noon until 9:00 p.m. and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hobert Barnes; parents, Davis Cope and Sally Cope Avery; a daughter, Marzell Ray; two sons, Johnny and Paul Eugene Barnes; six brothers, Benny, Lucky, Johnny, Drophia, Luther, and Kelly Cope; and two sisters, Julia Phillips and June Ledford. Survivors include three sons, Marvin Brownie and Peggy Barnes and Gentry and Pat Barnes of Smithville, and Youman and Cindy Barnes of Rock Island. 46 year old Nancy Lynn Meyer of Smithville died Monday at Saint Thomas Hospital. She was a Baptist, an avid athlete, and a Federal Mogul warehouse worker.
