Billy “Janitor Billy” Colwell

65 year old Billy “Janitor Billy” Colwell of Rock Island died Friday at Centennial Medical Center. He was retired from Powermatic and employed as Janitor at DeKalb County High School. Colwell was a ham radio operator and a member of the Mount Hope The Baptist Church. The funeral will be Monday at 3:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Virgil Hibdon, Greg Hibdon, and Dwight Knowles will officiate and burial will be in the New Union Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.; Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.; and Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 3:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Auvel and Annie Helen Reeder Colwell. Colwell is survived by his wife of 43 years, Joeneal Green Colwell of Rock Island. A daughter, Linda and her husband Joshua Parris of Rock Island. One son, Henry Lee and his wife Kathy Colwell of Rock Island. Three grandchildren, Heather Michelle and Patrick Lee Colwell and Carl Andrew Parris all of Rock Island. One sister and brother-in-law, Patty and Jerry Cantrell of Smithville. Two brothers and sisters-in-law, Kennith and Lois Colwell of Smithville, and Eddie and Sandra Colwell of Sparta. Carolyn Sifford

78 year old Carolyn Sifford of Smithville died Thursday morning at her residence. She was a member of the Johnson City Church of God and a homemaker. The funeral will be Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Danny Evans will officiate. Visitation will be Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 2:00 p.m. A graveside service will be at 3:00 p.m. (EDT) on Sunday at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Greenville, South Carolina. She was preceded in death by her parents, Calvin J. and Lillie Mae Garren Hester; a son, Stephen Garren “Pete” Sifford; brothers, Marion Hester and Calvin Hester, Jr.; and a sister Betty Wycuff. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Reverend Carl Sifford, Sr. of Smithville. Sons, Carl, Jr. and his wife Sue Sifford of Smithville, Ron and his wife Patsy Sifford of Smithville, and Calvin and wife June Sifford of Douglasville, Georgia. Eight grandchildren, Melissa Sanders of Jacksonville, Florida; Michelle Sanchez of Dade City, Florida; Carla Sue Sifford-Brown of Smithville, Brandon Sifford of Hawaii; Kendra White of Smithville; Jason Sifford of Smithville; Jeana Sifford of Douglasville, Georgia; and Tracey Stone of Douglasville, Georgia. James Leamon “Uncle John” Johnson

79 year old James Leamon “Uncle John” Johnson of Smithville died Wednesday at University Medical Center in Lebanon. He was a Baptist and a retired employee of the DeKalb Highway Department. The funeral will be Friday at 4:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bernard Houk will officiate and burial will be in the Banks Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 4:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie and Gladys Wright Johnson. He is survived by his wife, Jessie Bell Shehane Johnson of Smithville. One son, James Lee Johnson of Smithville. Two brothers, Elmus and his wife Doris Johnson and Kenneth and his wife Mildred Johnson all of Smithville. One special niece, Misty Jane Kyle of Smithville. 82 year old Katy Cantrell of Smithville died Saturday at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a homemaker and a member of the Pomeroy Chapel Brethren In Christ. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Youngbend Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Mattie Adcock Cantrell; two sisters, Josie Shehane and Macon Haas; and brothers, Gene, Carl, John, and Joseph Cantrell. Funeral Services for 90 year old James Frank Parham, Jr. of Cookeville, will be held Monday, at 11:00 a.m. in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Jerry Buckner will officiate and burial with military honors will follow in Crest Lawn Cemetery. Mr. Parham died Friday morning at his residence. He was born in Nashville to the late James Frank Parham and Bertha Staley Parham Marsh. Mr. Parham was of the Baptist faith, and served as Chaplain with the White County Community Hospital in Sparta a number of years. He was U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and a retired machinist with the Addressograph/Multigraph Company in Euclid, Ohio. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson Craig Wieland. His family includes his wife of over 62 years, Margie Randolph Parham; six children Jim and wife Kellie Parham of Plymouth, Massachusetts, Pam Stephens of Cookeville, Gordon and wife Susan Parham of Smithville, Ann and husband Dave Webb of Sun City, Arizona, Dwight and wife Janice Parham of Willoughby Hills, Ohio, and Sarah and husband Ron Ryan of Geneva, Ohio: 13 grandchildren, Tracy Parham, Matthew and wife Wendy Parham, Dawn and husband Matthew Berry, Kimberly and husband Woody Cox, Craig Wieland, Andrew Webb, Tom and wife Jaclyn Webb, Amanda Parham, Natalie Parham, Joshua Ryan, Michael Ryan, Stephen Elliott, and Andrew Elliott: seven great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Hannah, and Abigail Cox, Dustin Parham, Alexis Kirkland, Maddie Griffin, and Brookelyn Berry. 80 year old Harvil Edwin (E.O.) Owen of Smithville died Friday at NHC Healthcare Center. He was a member of the Dry Creek Baptist Church. 87 year old Callie F. Wilson of Smithville died Saturday at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a member of the Covenant Baptist Church and a former owner of Holmes Creek Boat Dock. The funeral will be Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bobby Thomason and Bobby Colvert will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 2:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her husband V.L. Wilson; parents John and Pairlee Robinson Fuson; a son, Donald Ray Wilson; and a brother, James Fuson. 77 year old Bobbie Lynn Tittsworth Betty of Cowan, Tennessee died Wednesday. She was born in DeKalb County; the daughter of the late Mason Tittsworth and Louvella Young Tittsworth. She was the owner/operator of the Sampler in Cowan. She is survived by her husband, Howard “HG” Betty; her sister, Dorothy Young of Smithville; her niece Laura and husband Johnny Carter; and nephew Bill and wife Joania Young all of McMinnville. A memorial service, officiated by Howard Harnden, will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday in the Moore-Cortner Chapel in Winchester. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, or the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. 88 year old Mary Irene Robinson Shaw of Dandridge, Tennessee died Wednesday. She was a member of Green Hill Baptist Church. Shaw was preceded in death by her mother and father, and all her Robinson siblings of McMinn and Meigs County; grandson, Michael A. Shaw of Smithville, and husband, Reverend Kyle Shaw of Dandridge. Mrs. Shaw is survived by four sons, Don and wife Margie of Dandridge, Bill and wife Linda of Smithville, Bob and wife Judy of Rutledge, and Stan and wife Tina of Jefferson City. Fourteen grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. The funeral service will be held at 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Farrar Dandridge Chapel with. Earl Hughes, Jerry Colbert and Bill Shaw officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. prior to the service. 91 year old Bernard Richard Sramcik of Dowelltown died Sunday, December 21st at UMC in Lebanon. He was retired from the Uniroyal Tire Company.
