Roy Bass

83 year old Roy Bass of Smithville died Friday at NHC Healthcare Center. He was a Baptist, a retired owner of Georgia Girl, member of the Royal Orders of Elk & Moose, Shriners, American Legion, and VFW. The funeral will be Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bobby Thomason will officiate and burial will be in the Barrow Memorial Gardens in Winder, Georgia. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny Bedford and Lattie Elizabeth Johnson Bass. He is survived by his wife, Linda Jane Bass of Smithville. One daughter, Vivian and Louie Oakley of Alexandria. Four sons, Phillip Bass of the Dominican Republic, Colin and his wife Sharon Bass of Nashville, Steven and his wife Barbara Bass of Alabama and John and his wife Tonya Bass of Smithville. One brother, Willie and his wife Dorothy Bass of Mount Juliet. Seven grandchildren, Six great grandchildren and a number of step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. Louise Moore Moss

82 year old Louise Moore Moss of Woodbury died Thursday at the Carestone Assisted Living Center in Chattanooga. She was born in Lawrenceburg. Moss was a Baptist, a member of the Eastern Star, and a retired RN at the Alvin C. York V.A. Medical Center. A graveside service will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Bobby Nichols will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Saturday. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Eva Gray Youngblood of Woodbury. Nieces, Cortilla Fann of Woodbury, Linda Eller of Chattanooga, Kathleen Dunn of Phoenix, Arizona, and Betty Depew of Midland Texas, and several great and great great nieces and nephews. Dona Mai Turner

91 year old Dona Mai Turner of McMinnville Highway in the Highland Community died Wednesday at Saint Thomas Hospital in Nashville. She was born in Warren County. Turner was a homemaker and a member of the Highland Church of Christ. The funeral will be Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at McMinnville Funeral Home Chapel. Robert Moss and Glendon Cantrell will officiate and burial will be in the Corinth Cemetery in DeKalb County. The Turner family will receive friends on Friday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Henry and Sallie Cope; her husband, James Norman Turner; a daughter, Yvonne Turner; a brother, Rayburn Cope; and a sister, Mary Cope. Survivors include her sisters, Gladys Cole of McMinnville and Belle Rankhorn and Martha Rankhorn both of Smithville. Special niece, Brenda Young and special nephew, Doug Pack, and several nieces, nephews, family members, and friends. McMinnville Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Elizabeth Rose Abston

70 year old Elizabeth Rose Abston died Monday at UMC in Lebanon. The funeral service will be Saturday at 12 noon at Mays Chapel Baptist Church. Visitation will be Saturday starting at 11 a.m. Belita Fite will officiate and burial will be in the Hermitage Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include her husband Alfred Abston; a son, Marcus and wife Ebony Stokes; a granddaughter, J’mia Covington; a sister, Margaret and husband John Johnson; brothers, Robert and wife Bessie, and Thomas and wife Eula Stokes; sisters-in-law, Mai B. and husband John Stafford, Margaret and husband John Bell, Estelle Oldham, Geneva Adams and Debra Abston. Several nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends also survive.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Rosa Stokes.

Jewel T. Jones

88 year old Jewel T. Jones of Battle Creek, Michigan died Sunday at her home. She was born in Smithville, the daughter of James E. and Calli L. (Bain) Adcock. She was a homemaker most of her life but was previously employed by Keyes-Davis for 17 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Emerson Jones. She is survived by her children, Bettie “Lene” Frantz of East Leroy, Ann and husband Ray Garrett of Battle Creek, and Bill and wife Geneva Jones of Battle Creek. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren; 11 great grand children; sisters Betty Jean Jones, Virginia Daniels, and Mildred and her husband Kenneth Johnson; along with a brother Clayton and his wife Dorothy Adcock all of Smithville. In addition to her husband, Jones was preceded in death by 7 brothers and sisters. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Royal Funeral Home in Battle Creek. Michigan. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Royal Funeral Home in Battle Creek. Memorial contributions may be given to the Good Samaritan Hospice Care.

Richard Lee Sackett

59 year old Richard Lee Sackett of Smithville died Saturday at his residence. His body has been cremated and no service will be held. He was preceded in death by his father, George Sackett. Survivors include his mother, Dorothy Sackett; a daughter, Tammy and her husband Jimmy Williams of Carthage; a brother, Carl Sackett; and a sister, Patricia Arthur. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Donations may be made, in lieu of flowers, to DeKalb Funeral Chapel to help with final expenses.

Carleton Francis Armbruster

85 year old Carleton Francis Armbruster of Watertown died Sunday at DeKalb Community Hospital. The body is at Avant Funeral Home in Alexandria where a memorial service will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends at Avant Funeral Home on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until the service at 2:00 p.m. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Barbara C. Armbruster of Watertown. Three sons, Robert C. and Jerry Armbruster, Sr. of Merritt Island, Florida; Roger Thomas Armbruster of Watertown and Gary and Pat Armbruster of Merritt Island, Florida. A sister, Vivian Hilt of Simsbury, Connecticut. Avant Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Gregory Dale Edwards

46 year old Gregory Dale Edwards of Smithville died Saturday at his residence. He was a painter and a member of the Haywood Hills Baptist Church in Nashville. The funeral will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Jason Lohorn will officiate and burial will be in Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 11:00 a.m. He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Jeffery Darryl Edwards. Survivors include his parents, Charles and Shirley Edwards of Liberty. A sister, Dana and her husband Butch Davis of Dowelltown. A brother, Glenn Edwards of Nashville. Clifton Arvie “Cliff” Maynard

66 year old Clifton Arvie “Cliff” Maynard of White Bluff died Saturday at the Horizon Medical Center. A graveside service will be Monday at 1:00 p.m. at the Nosegay Cemetery. Buck Allan will officiate. He is survived by his wife, Digna Maynard of White Bluff. A son, Trevis Maynard of Liberty. Two daughters, Connie Maynard and Sandra D. Wonner both of White Bluff. Two brothers, Gearl Maynard of Nashville and Marshall Maynard of Brush Creek. Sisters, Naomie Malone of Mount Juliet, Keeble Thweatt of Smithville, Sally Jones of Liberty, Shirley Wright of Nashville, Sybil Waite of Murfreesboro, and Barbara Crague of Madison. Berniece Marcum Jackson

86 year old Berniece Marcum Jackson of McMinnville died Friday at her residence of an extended illness. She was born in White County. Jackson was also a retired employee of the McMinnville Garment Company and a member of the Newtown The Baptist Church. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Spring Hill The Baptist Church in White County. Howard Hooper, Leslie Moore, and James Wright will officiate and burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery. The Jackson family will receive friends on Saturday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McMinnville Funeral Home and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Spring Hill The Baptist Church. Jackson was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Bessie Knowles Marcum; sisters, Katherine Marcum and Reba Tindell; and brothers, Reed and John Marcum. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Hobert E. Jackson of McMinnville. Sons, Paul D. Jackson of Orlando, Florida and Donald E. Jackson of McMinnville. A daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Calvin D. Jones of McMinnville. Brothers, Alton and Pearle Marcum, Meril and Ruby Marcum, and Earl Marcum all of White County.
