H.C. “Tye” Taylor

85 year old H.C. “Tye” Taylor of Watertown died Wednesday at University Medical Center in Lebanon. He was a DeKalb County native, a welder, barber, Baptist, and a U.S. Army Veteran. The funeral will be Friday at 2:00 p.m. at Hunter Funeral Home in Watertown. Burial will be in the Mount Holly Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. He was preceded in death by his parents, Horace and Nola Edna Taylor; a sister, Ina Mae Trapp; and brothers, Lloyd, Hobert, and H.D. Taylor. Survivors include sisters, Callie Taylor of Watertown, Reba and her husband Virgil Nixon of Watertown, and Clara Fuson of Smithville. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Ruth Murphy Ward

91 year old Ruth Murphy Ward of Smithville died Sunday at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a homemaker and a member of the Faith Chapel Church at Buffalo Valley. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Steve Warren will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. A worship service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carlos Bennie Ward; her parents, Melvin and Dixie Cantrell Murphy; brothers, Burgess, Tennis, and Arlin Murphy; and sisters, Ethel Johnson and Laura Bradford. Survivors include her children, Georgia Hanson of Rock Step, West Virginia; and Dorothy Turner, JoAnn Bradford, George M. Ward, and Bootsie Cash all of Smithville; and David H. Ward of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Twenty seven grandchildren, thirty four great grandchildren, and a host of great great grandchildren also survive along with sisters, Virgie Murphy, Ona Runyon, and Imogene Blackburn all of West Virginia. Two brothers, Virgil and Joe Murphy both of Ohio. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. The family asks that donations be made to Faith Chapel Church Building Fund, in memory of Ms. Ruth, in lieu of flowers.

Ella Dodson Midgett

80 year old Ella Dodson Midgett of Dowelltown died Sunday at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville. She was a retired beautician and a member of the Dry Creek Baptist Church. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Donald Owens will officiate and burial will be at DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Mary Dodson; a grandson, Eric Midgett; and a sister, Mollie Crim. She is survived by her husband, Bill Midgett of Dowelltown. Two sons, Jimmy and his wife Lou Ann Midgett of Dowelltown and John and his wife Pam Midgett of Carthage. One daughter, Doris and her husband Benny Watts of Carthage. Three grandchildren, Jennifer and Frank Myers of Lebanon, Robin Watts of Carthage, and Mary Ann and Chris Smithson of Smithville. One step grandchild, Bethany Pack Sanders of Algood. One step great grandchild, Kelsey Beth Sanders of Algood. An unborn great grandson, Morgan James Smithson. Hallie Viola Jones Bain

96 year old Hallie Viola Jones Bain of McMinnville died Saturday at her residence. She was a DeKalb County native, a homemaker, and member of the Gath Baptist Church. The funeral will be Monday at 3:00 p.m. at McMinnville Funeral Home Chapel. John Padgett and Terry Felton will officiate. Burial will follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at McMinnville Funeral Home. She was preceded in death by her parents, Isaac and Mary E. Rankhorn Jones; her husband, Ernest E. “Angel” Bain; a son, Wayne Bain; granddaughter, Felicia Bain; and several sisters and brothers. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Dortha G. and Daniel Felton of Sparta. A daughter-in-law, Irene Bain of McMinnville. 82 year old Marjorie Durrett Earls Bratcher of Smithville died Saturday at NHC of Smithville. She was a Protestant and a retired aide at the State Hospital in Nashville. The funeral will be Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Banks Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 11:00 a.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Emory H. and Blanche Johnson Earls; her husband, Valter Bratcher; two sisters, Reba Bean and Virginia Earls; and a brother, Malcolm Earls. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Kayetta and Dallas Meadows of South Carolina. Two grandsons, Drew Meadows of Kentucky and Jared Meadows of Alabama. William Robert Daniel

84 year old William Robert Daniel of Woodbury died Saturday at NHC of Murfreesboro of an extended illness. He was a Cannon County native, a carpenter, a World War II U.S. Air Force Veteran and a member of the Caney Branch Baptist Church. The funeral will be Monday at 4:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home. Leonard Herman and Doyle Sherrell will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. He is survived by his wife, Dean Cook Daniel of Woodbury. Four siblings, Alta Mae Maxwell of Jackson, Michigan. B.F. and his wife Mary Helen Daniel of McMinnville. Patricia Medley of Lewisburg, and Shirley and her husband Harold Whitaker of Franklin. A sister-in-law, Brenda and her husband Rayburn Hibdon of Centertown. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and his buddy toy poodle, Peyton. Julian C. “Skip” Henderson

94 year old Julian C. “Skip” Henderson of Bowling Green, Kentucky died Thursday in Smithville. The funeral will be Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Bowling Green with burial in Fairview Cemetery # 1. Visitation is scheduled from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home and from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Monday at the Presbyterian Church. The Arlington, Kentucky native was a graduate of Murray State Normal School, now Murray State University, where he was the captain of the 1937 Football Team. Henderson retired as plant manager with South Central Bell, where he worked for 38 years. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, past president of the Noon Kiwanis Club, and a member of the Blue Bell Campers. He was a member the Presbyterian Church where he served as Deacon and Elder. He was a son of the late Clinton H. Henderson and Julia C. Henderson and husband of the late Sarah H. Henderson. A brother, David “Cotton” Henderson preceded him in death. Survivors include a son, William C. Henderson and his wife, Gayle of Mount Vernon, Indiana; one daughter, Julia H. Wall and her husband Jim Wall of Smithville; three grandchildren, Caroline Henderson of Beaumont, Texas, Johanna Wallisa and her husband Shaun of Indianapolis, Indiana, and John Wall and his wife Heather of Louisville, Kentucky; two great grandsons, Chase Wall and Cole Wall; and several nieces and nephews.

Mary Evelyn Miller Snipes

88 year old Mary Evelyn Miller Snipes of the Mount Zion Community died Thursday at River Park Hospital. She was born in DeKalb County and was a homemaker and member of the White Hall Bible Church. The funeral will be Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at McMinnville Funeral Home Chapel. Ronnie Powell and Stacy Cowan will officiate and burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery. The Snipes Family will receive friends Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Taylor Snipes; her parents, Reverend W.E. Miller and Nettie Loring Miller; sons, Bobby Gene Snipes and Bill Snipes; sisters, Mable Bain and Willie Dean Curtis; and brothers, Eston Miller and Ralph E. Miller. She is survived by her children, Marian and her husband Doug Jacobs of the Vervilla community and Nancy and her husband Mike Chilcutt of McMinnville. Seven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren. Brothers-in-law, Reverend Horace Snipes and James and Mary Snipes and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Miller. 79 year old John Dost of Cookeville died Saturday at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper- Huddleston, & Horner Funeral Home. Visitation will be Saturday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Survivors include his wife Barbara Dost. Two daughters, Diane Loy and Gail Gentry. One brother, Andy Dost and a sister, Betty Matzkvich. 98 year old Kate Judkins Young of Warren County died Wednesday night at NHC Healthcare Center in McMinnville. She was a member of the Whorton Springs Baptist Church, a homemaker, and a retired employee of the Dibrell School System. The funeral will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. David Mahan and Michael Hale will officiate and burial will be in Whorton Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Brown Judkins and Bob Young, Sr.; a son, Jerry Judkins; and her parents, Claud C. and Nora Magness Davis. Survivors include a son, Jack Judkins of McMinnville.
