Ila Mai Martin

89 year old Ila Mai Martin of Alexandria died Saturday at UMC Hospital in Lebanon. She was a DeKalb County native, a homemaker, and a member of the West Main Baptist Church in Alexandria where she served as a Sunday School teacher and was a former WMU director. The funeral will be Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at the West Main Baptist Church. Thurman Seber and Ronnie Smith will officiate and burial will be in Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from noon until 9:00 p.m.; Monday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.; and Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Emmett Lofton and Myrtle Eva King Smith; her husband, Charles B. Martin; and a brother, Robert King Smith. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Freddy and Laverne Martin of Alexandria. A grandson, Jason and his wife Resa Martin of Christiana. A granddaughter, Trena Gassaway of Alexandria. Great granddaughters, Dana Christine Martin, Claire Elizabeth Martin, and Julia Grace Martin. Hazel Caplinger

88 year old Hazel Caplinger of Liberty died Wednesday at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was the retired owner and operator of Caplinger’s Grocery. She was also a member of the Memorial Baptist Church on Dale Ridge. The funeral will be Friday at 7:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. A graveside service will be Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Junior Ellis and Gary Caplinger will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at 7:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Troy and Ova Bell Martin Jones; her husband, James Monroe Caplinger; a son, Donnie Caplinger; two brothers, Buford and Jimmy Jones; and two sisters, Margaret Hendrixson and Gladys Slagle. Survivors include three grandchildren, Rusty and Ginger Caplinger and Mitzi Bradford all of Smithville, and Tracy and Jenna Caplinger of Auburntown. Eight great grandchildren. 81 year old Ileana J. Herndon of Smithville died Tuesday at NHC Healthcare Center. She was a homemaker. A graveside service will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Kent Smithson will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until 1:45 p.m. at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Anna Swain Griffin and husbands, Robert Byrd and Robert “Bob” Herndon. 40 year old Lisa Ann Devault of Smithville died Monday at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a member of the Liberty United Methodist Church. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Michael Hale will officiate and burial will be in the Mount Ararat Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 2:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her father, Alvie Estes. Survivors include daughters, Carrie DeVault and Samantha DeVault both of Smithville. Step-children, Mackie DeVault and Johnny DeVault both of Smithville. 55 year old Steve C. Turner of Smithville died Sunday at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was a Baptist and a Contractor. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.; Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m; and Thursday from 9:00 a.m.until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Adcock Turner of Smithville. A daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Grady Phillips of Smithville. A son, Cory Turner of Smithville. Two grandchildren, Baylee and Ashley Phillips of Smithville. 64 year old Frankie White Anderson of McMinnville and formerly of Smithville died Sunday at the All Care Home in McMinnville. He was a nurseryman. A graveside service will be Monday at 2:30 p.m. at Whorton Springs Cemetery. Junior Hibdon will officiate. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vander Anderson and Linnie Ferrell McMahan. Survivors include a daughter, Linnie Ann Lattimer of McMinnville. Two sons, Trent and Floyd Anderson of McMinnville. Nine grandchildren. One brother, Paul Anderson of McMinnville. 91 year old Mrs. Johnnie Spence of Alexandria died Sunday at DeKalb Community Hospital. The body is Avant Funeral Home in Alexandria where the funeral will be held Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. Tim Brown will officiate and burial will be in the Hillview Memorial Cemetery in Alexandria. The Spence family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until the service time at 1:00 p.m. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Delilah and Tom Battan of Brentwood. 97 year old Eula Medley Mathis of Smithville died Saturday at NHC Healthcare Center in Smithville. She was a retired factory worker and a member of the Smithville Church of Christ. The funeral will be Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the Smithville Church of Christ. Dan Gulley will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home and Monday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. at the church. She was preceded in death by her parents, C.C. and Pearl Medley; brothers, Howard, Alfred, Buster, Robert, and Floyd Medley; and sisters, Ruth Moulton and Bula Maggart. Survivors include three brothers, Kenneth “Bud” and his wife Nell Medley of Smithville, Joe Medley of Baxter, and Gerald Medley of Smithville. One sister, Lucille Fuson of McMinnville. 42 year old Jerry Estle Summers of Smithville died Thursday at St. Francis Hospital in Bartlett, Tennessee. He was a construction worker. The funeral will be Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Braswell Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.; Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.; and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Estel and Ruby Pedigo Summers and a sister, Kimberly Young. George Lewis McClain

75 year old George Lewis McClain of McMinnville died Thursday at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was a member of the Westside Baptist Church and retired from the U.S. Army. He was a member of the VFW. A memorial service will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Westside Baptist Church in McMinnville. Tyree Smith will officiate. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice White McClain; parents, Joe Haskel and Georgia Pearl Turner McClain; a daughter, Elaine Violet McClain; a brother, Cecil McClain; and sisters, Ruby Anita Rackley and Lena Marie Turner. Survivors include two sons, Geary McClain of Pennsylvania and Michael Edward McClain of Smithville.. Three grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Sisters, Laura Jane McClain of McMinnville, JoAnna McClain Stuber of Florida, Mary Elizabeth Jernigan of Viola and Mae Prater of McMinnville. Brothers, William E. McClain, James H. McClain of Smithville, Walter V. McClain of Murfreesboro and Ricky McClain of Smithville. Mr. McClain’s remains have been donated to the West Virginia University Guest Register for research.
