Steve “Pappy” Stanley

Steve “Pappy” Stanley age 70 of Smithville passed away Monday afternoon at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro. He was born January 3, 1947 to his parents, James Edward Stanley and the late Dean Campbell Stanley. In addition to his mother, he was preceded death by his wife: Lucy Stanley; 1 Son: Stevie Stanley; Sister: Paulette Bain; Brothers-in-law: Aubrey Gunter, Ernest Warren. Steve was a member of the Smithville Church of Christ and a retired truck driver. Survivors include 3 children: Lori (Manuel) Ramirez, Paul (Amy) Stanley, Jamie (Arturo) Ramirez all of Smithville; Father: James Stanley of Smithville; Brother-in-law; Randy Bain of Smithville; Niece; Tammy Moser of Smyrna; 17 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Thursday January 26, 2017 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Dan Gulley officiating and burial to follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Wednesday from 1 PM until 8 PM and Thursday 10AM until time of the service at 2 PM. Billy Stephen Braswell

Billy Stephen Braswell age 59 of Liberty, passed away Saturday evening January 21, 2017 at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital ER. He was born October 28, 1957 to his parents, Billy and Retha Nell Braswell. Steve was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, John and Martha Young and paternal grandparents, L.D. and Jennie Lee Braswell. He attended the Dowelltown United Methodist Church and was a Christian. He was a mechanic and a cabinet maker. Survivors include 2 children, Quastaia Braswell of Smithville, Aaron Braswell of Lancaster; 2 grandchildren, Kaylee Braswell and Kolby Jacobs; parents, Billy and Retha Nell Braswell of Dowelltown; 4 sisters, Susan Reynolds of Smithville, Becky Thomas (Sam Parker) of Sparta, JoAnn (Tim) Davis of Liberty and Janie (Mark) England of Smithville; long-time special companion, LeAnn Vandergriff of Liberty and her children, Kristin Hutchings and Brittany Vandergriff of Sparta and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 11:AM Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Doug Collins and Bro. Michael Hale officiating and burial to follow in DeKalb Cemetery. Eddie Lattimore

62 year old Eddie Lattimore of Liberty died Saturday at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital. He was a mechanic. The funeral will be Monday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bernard Houk will officiate and burial will be in Whorton Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 3:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Monday from 9 a.m. until the service at 1 p.m. Lattimore was preceded in death by his parents, Abe and Pearl Pascal Colwell and father, Edward Lattimore. Survivors include three sisters, Frances Mathis of Dowelltown, Virginia and Paul Caldwell, and Brenda and Ricky Caldwell; three brothers, James Lattimore, Kenneth and Debbie Lattimore, and Johnny and Melinda Lattimore all of Smithville. Helen Jeanette Keith Redmon

77 year old Helen Jeanette Keith Redmon of Smithville died Friday at Cookeville Regional Hospital. She was retired from Federal Mogul and a member of the Elizabeth Chapel Baptist Church. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Joel Wood and Bill Robertson will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb County Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 4-8 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. until the service at 2 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Evelyn Smith Keith; sister, Carolyn Maynard; brother, Ralph Keith; and two nephews, Keith Maynard and Lee Tracy Maynard. Survivors include a daughter, Jeanette and Jeffery Youngblood of Liberty. Two nieces, Kelly and Greg Heffner of Rockvale and Tavia Keith of Smithville. Mildred Arlene Garrison Briggs

93 year old Mildred Arlene Garrison Briggs died Tuesday at Signature Health Care of Hart County. She was born in Cave City, Kentucky. The funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Bob Hunt Funeral Chapel, Cave City with burial in the Camp Ground Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home will be from 2-8 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. until the service on Saturday. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Milton Briggs; a son, Robert Edward Briggs; and her parents, Lula Belle Isenberg Garrison and Julius Crawford Garrison as well as sisters, Lillian Sowles, Georgia Demmit, Oneda Wright; brothers, Almon Garrison, Bertram Garrison, Willard Garrison, and beloved in-laws, Johnny and Ruby Briggs. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and a faithful member of the Cave City Church of Christ. She retired from Mammoth Cave Manufacturing Company. Georgia Lee Merriman age 88 of Smithville, passed away Monday afternoon, January 16, 2017 at Saint Thomas DeKalb Hospital. She was born October 6, 1928 to her parents the late George and Allie Taylor Melton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Merriman; 2 daughters Annie Stacy Merriman and Linda Osment; 1 sister Christine Hale. She was a Baptist and a retired shirt factory worker. Shirley Ann Fletcher Pedigo age 76 of Smithville, passed away Monday morning, January 16, 2017 at NHC. She was born April 15, 1940 to her parents the late Gene and Lydia Fletcher Perkins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Larry J. Pedigo; 1 son, Richard Jones; granddaughter, Peggy Marie Pascal; great-grandson, Isaiah Church; sister and brother-in-law, J.W. and Hazel White; brothers, Jack, Joe, and Darryl Fletcher. She was a Methodist and worked in housekeeping at NHC. Survivors include 8 children, Billy Jones of Florida, Mary Ann Jones of Virginia, Joyce Ann Jones Lyons of South Carolina, Julie and (Larry) Brown of Smithville, Margie and (Bobby) Hale of Smithville, Patsy and (Stacy) Goodman of Alabama, Willie and (Kathy) Pascal of Smithville, and Larry, Jr. and (Paula) Pedigo of Smithville; 16 Grandchildren and 21 Great-Grandchildren; 1 brother, Billy Fletcher of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Thelma Durham

98 year old Thelma Durham died Sunday morning at NHC of Smithville. She was born to her parents, the late John and Carrie Waddington in Farwell, Michigan. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer to whom she was married for 42 years and a son, Keith of Inglis, Florida. Also three brothers, Louis, Gilbert, and Tim Waddington and a sister, Fern Richards. She is survived by a sister, Helen Kube and her husband Bob of Farwell, Michigan and a son, Gary Durham and his wife Nancy of Smithville. She had six grandchildren, Todd Durham and his wife Dana of Lawrenceville, Georgia; Tami Strong and her husband Frankie of Plant City, Florida, Kari Booth and her husband John of Merritt Island, Florida; Penny Stough of Rosebush, Michigan; Ginger Gulick and her husband Kevin of Marian, Michigan; and Pepper Nichols and her husband David of Lake City, Florida. She also had ten great grandchildren. She was always surrounded by a large, loving family. At her request, there will be no service in Smithville. She will be buried in the Gilmore Township Cemetery in Farwell, Michigan. Along with her parents, her husband and her son, Keith. The cemetery is located across the road from the house in which she was born. Along with all the friends she made in Smithville, the family would like to thank each and every employee of NHC. Mr. Charles Wayne Durham age 73 of Smithville, passed away Friday morning at his residence. He was born January 17, 1943 to his parents, the late David Cleon and Velma Azliee Yates Durham. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 1 son, Eric Lee Linder; 2 brothers, William “Billy” Yates and David Cleon Durham; 1 sister, Viola Cobb. Charlie was a retired factory worker. Survivors include his wife, Frieda Ann Durham of Smithville; 8 children, Charles Wayne Durham, Jr. of Mississippi, Patricia Lynn Durham of Carthage, Donna Faye (Terry) Hughes of Carthage, Jimmy Don Durham of Greenfield, TN, Tina (Jeff) Waggoner of Smithville, Kuilon (Connie) Linder of Brush Creek, Tommy Linder of Smithville and Dustin Wayne Durham of Smithville; 20 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Allen Lee Durham of Mississippi and 2 sisters, Frances Erlene Durham Yates and Carol Sue Durham both of Mississippi. Edward Scott “Scotty” Judkins

Edward Scott “Scotty” Judkins – age 53 of Lebanon passed away on Wednesday, January 11, 2017. He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Presley & Katherine Russell and paternal grandparents, James & Bessie Judkins. Mr. Judkins is survived by daughters, Jennifer Judkins and Kristin Judkins (fiancĂ© Drew Mason); parents, Joe & Martha Judkins; siblings, Steve (Carlene) Judkins, Sandy (Hank) Watkins, Susan (Eric) Carr, and Shane Judkins (Brittany Collins); grandchildren, Hannah Pratt and grandson on the way, Liam Scott Mason; nephew, Matthew Watkins; niece, Addyson Collins and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and other loving family members. Mr. Judkins was a 1981 graduate of Lebanon High School and played on the Lebanon High School Baseball team. He worked for Texas Boot and was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church where he was part of the church softball team. Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2017 from 4 p.m.-8 p.m. in the Partlow Funeral Chapel.
