66 year old Clarence Wayne Ray of Smithville died Sunday at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville. He was affiliated with the Church of Christ and retired from A.O. Smith. A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Ricky Arnold, Malcolm Turner, and David Greene will officiate. Visitation will be Tuesday from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until 1:45 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Bill and Earlene Prater Ray and a brother, Calvin Ray. Survivors include his wife, Jackie Ray of Smithville. A brother, Paul and his wife Christine Ray of McMinnville. A sister,Juanita and her husband Bob Cantrell of Morrison. Special nephew, Jeff Cantrell of Morrison. Niece, Melody and her husband Wayne Hackett of Mount Juliet. Nephews, Lynn and his wife Marla Cantrell, Greg and his wife Nancy Ray, Terry and his wife Pam Ray, and Timmy Ray. Special friends, Ronnie and Patsy Greene, Paul and Anna Parker, Robert and Faye Kirby, Clifford and Virgie Walker, Malcolm and Helen Turner, Curtis Duncan, and William Harris. Jo Ann Parton Hancock

71 year old Jo Ann Parton Hancock of Gassaway Road, Woodbury and a native of Cannon County, died Wednesday of a short illness at Middle Tennessee Medical Center. She was owner of Woodbury Insurance Agency, a member of the Gassaway Church of Christ, and the Woodbury Lions Club. The funeral will be Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the Gassaway Church of Christ. Weldon Parkinson and John Barker will officiate and burial will be in Sycamore Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday until 9:00 p.m. and Friday until noon at Woodbury Funeral Home. The body will be at the church from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service. She is survived by her husband of 53 years James Hancock of Gassaway. Two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Deborah Hancock of Smithville and Gary and Jama Hancock of Smithville. Two brothers, Oscar Parton and J.L. and Lucille Parton all of Woodbury. Two sisters, Ellen Blanton of Nashville and Faye Burger of Woodbury. Four grandchildren, Travis and his wife Beth Hancock, Chris and his wife Lydia Hancock, Emily and her husband Erik Hughes, and Matthew and his wife Alex Hancock. Robert Carl Moffitt

74 year old Robert Carl Moffitt of McMinnville died Tuesday of an extended illness at the Alvin C. York V.A. Medical Center in Murfreesboro. He was a U.S. Air Force Korean War Veteran and a self employed contractor and former owner of the Mount View Cemetery. A graveside service will be held Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at the Mount View Cemetery. Military grave rites will be held. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. His parents were Frank B. Moffitt and Edna Hillis. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Christine Moffitt of McMinnville and two grandchildren, Micah and Kristan Moffitt of McMinnville. Johnnie Lee Maynard Vanatta

91 year old Ms. Johnnie Lee Maynard Vanatta of Smithville died Thursday at her residence of an extended illness. She was a homemaker, farmer, and a member of the Banks Cumberland Presbyterian Church. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Greg Mullis will officiate and burial will be in the Banks Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 2:30 p.m.. She was preceded in death by her husband, John S. Vanatta; her parents, Andrew E. and Pearl Lee Stokes Maynard; children, George “Buddy” Vanatta and Nolen Barnett; step-children, Grady Alton Vanatta and Lois Bonner; grandchildren, Sandra Barnett and Nolan Barnett, Jr.; sisters, Melissa Hendrix and Lillie May Bain; and brothers, Cecil and Robert Maynard. Oreata Wilene Rowland

93 year old Oreata Wilene Rowland of Alexandria died Tuesday at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a homemaker and a member of the Lower Helton Baptist Church. The funeral will be Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. Barry Whitaker and Frank Randolph will officiate and burial will be in Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ephriam and Claris Allen Cope; her husband, Robbie Rowland; and a daughter, Melinda Ann Rowland. Survivors include a son, Robbie “Donnie” and his wife Annette Rowland of Alexandria. 94 year old Harvey Odell Driver of Alexandria died Tuesday at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was a farmer, a Methodist, and a DeKalb County native. The funeral will be Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. Burial will be in the Hillview Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Versia Scott Driver; a brother, Dawson Driver; and sisters, Lelia Mae Driver, Exum Chapman, and Beulah Malone. Survivors include his wife of 72 years Gladys Curtis Driver. A daughter, Margie Leette and her husband Howard Richardson of Milton. 87 year old Letha Mandy Peters of Smithville died Monday at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a homemaker and a member of the Faith Tabernacle. The funeral will be Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Jerry Braswell and Dwayne Cornelius will officiate and burial will be in Whorton Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Peters; her parents; two sons, Daniel Peters and William Manning; a daughter, Joyce Ann; two sisters, Ruby Summers and Louise Shehane; and two brothers, L.P. and Joe Pedigo. Survivors include four daughters, Amanda Hamilton of Smithville, Linda and her husband Clarence Standridge of Smithville, Elouise Powell of Florida, and Peggy and her husband Donald Minnear of Smithville. Twelve grandchildren, Regina Coley of Florida, Wondell Bolden of Kentucky, Karen Stelmach of Brentwood, Peggy Leonard of Columbia, Eugene Minnear, Tammy Quistgard, Joey Minnear, Ginger Standridge, and Richard Standridge all of Smithville, Renee Hobbs of Beersheeba, and David Smith and Mark Smith both of Morrison. Twenty four great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren. 42 year old Donald Wayne Thomas of Athens, Alabama and formerly of DeKalb County died Saturday at his residence. He was born in Liberty. He worked at Athens-Limestone Hospital as a Paramedic. He taught EMT at Calhoun Community College. He was an independent dealer for the Clark Vault Company. A graveside service will be Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. at Gatlin Cemetery in Athens, Alabama. Visitation will be Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the McConnell Funeral Home in Athens, Alabama. He is survived by his wife, Caprice S. Thomas of Athens Alabama. His son, Jonathon Thomas of Tennessee. His father-in-law, Wallace DeVore of Madison, Alabama. His mother-in-law, Sue DeVore of Madison, Alabama. A sister, Teena Street of Tennessee. An uncle, Ricky Duke of Tennessee. A brother-in-law, Christopher DeVore and his wife Anna of Madison, Alabama. Five nieces, a nephew, a great niece, and several friends also survive. 87 year old Clara Bell Randalls of Dowelltown died Sunday at NHC Healthcare Center in Smithville. She was a retired shirt factory worker and a member of the Elizabeth Chapel Baptist Church. The funeral will be Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Bill Robertson, W.D. Thomason, and Bob Perkins will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 2:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eddie and Elizabeth “Lizzie” Atnip and a sister, Eva Pauline Randalls. Survivors include her husband, Bill Randalls of Dowelltown. Children, Joyce and her husband Jerry Spurlock of Smithville, Barbara Dean and her husband Kenneth Arnold of Smithville, Anna Ruth and her husband Jack Chidester of Nashville. Step-children, Billie Warrick and Eddie Ervin of Nashville, Annita Carver of Mount Juliet, Louise Gibson of Old Hickory, and Eva Hill of Smithville. 75 year old Elsie Mai Braswell of Smithville died Monday at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a retired business owner of Maurice’s Family Clothiers, a member of the Smithville First United Methodist Church, and the Busy Bees. The funeral will be Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Terry Little, John Purdue, and Freddy Curtis will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday from noon until 8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Norvella Hutchens Hayes. Survivors include her husband of 57 years Maurice Braswell of Smithville. Children, Eddie Braswell of Smithville and Teresa and her husband Kenneth Robinson of Murfreesboro.
