Callie Evelyne Mathis

95 year old Callie Evelyne Mathis of Liberty died Wednesday at her residence. She was a homemaker. The funeral will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Cave Springs Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a member. Dennis Young and Dewey Dyer will officiate and burial will be in Sycamore Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at which time the body will be taken to the church where it will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 1:30 p.m. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Roy Mathis; parents, Calvin Lee and Mary Sissom Chumbley; brothers, Elmer Hale, Ray Hale, and Reed Hale; and a sister, Ethel Mai Gilley. Survivors include two daughters, Mainelle Derting and Lucille and her husband Glenn Davenport all of Liberty. Five grandchildren, Kenneth Derting, Larry Davenport, Mickey Davenport, Hugh Davenport, and Leanne McGill. Joe Don Yates

70 year old Joe Don Yates of Murfreesboro died Monday at his residence. He was a Baptist, a DeKalb County native, and a U.S. Army veteran. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Grace Hendrixson Yates and a brother, Gerald Yates. Survivors include a sister,Joyce and her husband Jimbo Robertson of Watertown. 85 year old Opal Simpson Sanders of Woodbury died Monday of an extended illness at her daughter’s home in Beech Grove. She was a Cannon County native, a housewife, and a Baptist. The funeral will be Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home. James Robert King and David Moody will officiate and burial will be in the Cherry Cemetery. Visitation starts Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hillary and Eunice Jones Simpson; her husband, Savage Sanders; a daughter, Maureen Mooneyham; brothers, Sterling and Alvie Simpson; and sisters, Ellen Brandon and Dorothy Collins. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Vivian and Donald Morton of Murfreesboro and Vida and James Robert King of Beech Grove. 68 year old Wilma Clemons of Smithville died Friday at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was retired from the Liberty Shirt Factory and a Baptist. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Kevin Campbell will officiate and burial will be in the Mount Holly Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 3:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. and Sunday until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald and Catherine Denny; her husband, Blanchard Clemons; and a brother, Ronald Dale Denny. Survivors include her mother, Catherine Denny of Woodbury. One daughter and son-in-law, Darlene and Bobby Lynn Luna of Sparta. One son, Jeffrey Dale Denny of Woodbury. 28 year old Adam Reynolds of Liberty died Thursday at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He was a member of the Salem Baptist Church and a material handler at Nissan. The funeral will be Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Michael Hale will officiate. Visitation will be Friday from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 3:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Howard and Margie Reynolds. Survivors include his wife, Amy Reynolds of Liberty. A daughter, Hayley Marie Reynolds of Liberty. His parents, Howard, Jr. and Freida Reynolds of Liberty. Two brothers, Chris Reynolds and Allen and his wife May Reynolds of Liberty. His maternal grandparents, Alfred and Marie Nixon of Watertown. A niece, Taylor Reynolds-Bower of Liberty. His father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lanny and Vicki Sandlin of Liberty. A brother-in-law, Hunter Sandlin, several aunts, uncles, and cousins also survive. 58 year old Carol Dunn Looney of Cartersville, Georgia died Wednesday at the Cartersville Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her mother, Guynell Mabe. Survivors include two sons, Jimmy Crips and Don Crips of Austelle, Georgia. Four grandchildren, Brittany Lynn, Stormie Nicole, Chloe Marie, and Travis Glen. One sister, Glenda Staley of Smithville and a brother, Eddie Mabe of Smithville. Ms. Looney’s remains have been cremated, A memorial service will be held at a later date. Mabel Williams Gill

71 year old Mabel Williams Gill of Smithville died Tuesday at Saint Thomas Hospital in Nashville. She was a homemaker and a member of Covenant Baptist Church. The funeral will be Thursday at 4:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love Cantrell Funeral Home. Jimbo Eddins will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ethel and Allie Williams and three brothers, Ray, Louie and Eugene Williams. She is survived by two brothers, JB & Ralph Williams both of Smithville and several nieces & nephews. 93 year old Lee Burnice Ray of Smithville died Tuesday at Vanderbilt Hospital. He was retired from Magnetek. The funeral will be Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at the New Union The Baptist Church, where he was a member for 61 years. Darrell Cantrell, Bransford England, and Anthony Pelham will officiate and burial will be in the New Union Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 1:15 p.m. at the funeral home. He was preceded in death by his wife, Avis Novella Ray; his parents, Thurman and Lula Lakey Ray; a son-in-law, Paul Blankenship; three brothers, George, J.T., and Clayton Ray; and two sisters, Imogene Rodgers and Lois Ray. Survivors include a daughter, Geraldine Blankenship and one son, Grady and his wife Charlotte Ray all of Smithville. 77 year old Nannie Mae Hale of Smithville died Sunday at her residence. She was a homemaker and a member of Mount Pisgah Freewill Baptist Church. The funeral will be Wednesday at 1:00pm at the Chapel of Love Cantrell Chapel. Bernard Houk and Phillip Luna will officiate and burial will be in the Banks Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.; Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.; and Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Mrs. Hale was preceded in death by her parents,William and Lena Ferrell Caldwell; Her husband, Mona Otis Hale; two grandchildren, Jeremy and Jonathan Hale; three brothers, JW, Lonnie and Wade Caldwell; and one sister, Lois Moon. She is survived by five sons, Monnie Hale, Jr. of Florida; Lonnie and wife Dolores Hale of South Carolina; Morris & wife Diana Hale of Nashville; Ronnie Hale and Jeff & wife Tonya Hale of Smithville.
