Billy Guy Smith

80 year old Billy Guy Smith of Murfreesboro died Friday at his residence. He was born in DeKalb County and was the son of the late Thomas Clay, Sr. and Mammie Ford Smith. He was a member of the Grace Baptist Church , a World War II veteran, a retired Civil Service worker and his most recent retirement was from the City of Murfreesboro Building Codes Department. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Jennings and Ayers Chapel in Murfreesboro. Russell Richardson will officiate and burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Jennings and Ayers Funeral.He is survived by two daughters, Linda and her husband Jimmy Skinner of Eagleville and Sherry and her husband Todd Dockery of Jacksonville, Florida. One brother, Thomas Clay Smith, Jr. of Thompson Station. Three sisters, Mary Gladys Curtis of Alexandria, Janie Heath of San Antonio, Texas and Martha and her husband William Davis of Alexandria. Two grandchildren, Michelle and her husband Darrell Huffman of Rockvale and Todd Dockery, III of Jacksonville, Florida. Two great-grandchildren, Tate and Mahaley Huffman of Rockvale. Smith was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Louise King Smith; a brother, Robert Ford Smith; and three sisters, Katherine and her husband Jimmy Curtis, Dorothy and her husband Clarence Anderson and Margie Gundt. Memorials to Mr. Smith may be made to the Grace Baptist Church or to the American Cancer Society. The Jennings and Ayers Funeral Home in Murfreesboro is in charge of the arrangements.

85 year old Inez Tubbs of Smithville died Thursday night at the Cookeville Regional Medical Center. The body is at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Arrangements are incomplete.

Brenda Colwell

50 year old Brenda Colwell of Smithville died Tuesday at Baptist Hospital in Nashville. She was a member of the Lower Helton The Baptist Church and an employee of Nissan. The funeral will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Barry Whiteaker and Frank Randolph will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.,Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m., and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. She was preceded in death by her father, Bobby Schaub. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Angie and Tony Fuston of Smithville. A grandson, Trey Fuston of Smithville. Her mother and step-father, Jimmie Scaub and David Carter of Smithville. Sisters, Beverly and her husband Paul Starnes of Alexandria, Connie Hale of Watertown, Glenda Burchfield of Alexandria, and Linda Williams of Lebanon. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Edgar V. Early

88 year old Edgar V. Early of Troy, Texas died Tuesday. The funeral will be held Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home Chapel in Temple, Texas. Burial will follow at Robert?s Cemetery in Troy. Early served in the National Guard at Temple for several years and served in the Army during World War II, from 1943-1945, earning a bronze star and other numerous medals. Early married Catherine Libson Durango in 1942 and together they had three children: Arlin ?Butch? Early and wife, Gloria, of Mart, Texas; Linda Franklin and husband, Ben, of Smithville, Tennessee; and Sharron McMullen and husband, Michael, of Troy; Grandchildren: Michael McMullen and wife, Sarah, of Magnolia, Texas; Misty Carol Franklin, of Smithville,; and Bobby, Dianna, Debbie, Dale, Tracy, Billy, James, Jeff and John Wright. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

50 year old Brenda Colwell of Smithville died Tuesday morning at Baptist Hospital in Nashville of a short illness. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Complete arrangements and a list of survivors are to be announced.

Rita Spencer Martinelli

82 year old Rita Spencer Martinelli of Manchester died Saturday at the Manchester Health Care Center. She was a homemaker and a member of the Indian Creek Baptist Church. A graveside service will be held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at Whorton Springs Cemetery. Mike Carpenter will officiate. Visitation will be Tuesday from noon until 1:40 p.m. at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. She was preceded in death by her parents, David J. and Etta Atnip Spencer; her husband Charles Martinelli; two brothers, George B. and Truitt Spencer; four sisters, Inez and Louise Spencer, Vera Lewis, and Clydia Crowley. She is survived by a brother, James R. Spencer of Springfield. One sister, Vallie Larson of Texas, and several nieces and nephews. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

87 year old Thurman Hooper of Smithville died Sunday at NHC Health Care Center of Smithville. He was retired from the Carrier Corporation. The funeral will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bill Robertson will officiate and burial will be in Whorton Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Hooper was preceded in death by his parents, Abb and Eliza Ashburn Hooper; his wife, Janie Hooper; a brother, Herman Hooper and a nephew, Jerry Lynn Sanders. Survivors include a sister, Violet and her husband Benton Sanders of Smithville. A brother, Lonnie and his wife Wilma Hooper of Kansas. Two nieces, Emogene and her husband Boyd Atnip of Smithville and Sandra and her husband Paul Turner of McMinnville. Two great nephews and two great great nephews also survive. J. Lee Hendrixson

81 year old J. Lee Hendrixson of Liberty died Friday at his residence. He was a retired machinist at Powermatic and he worked at the Highway 56 garbage collection center for 12 years. Hendrixson was also a Mason and a member of the DeKalb Lodge #358. He was a member of the Dale Ridge Baptist Church. The funeral will be Monday at 1:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Michael Hale and Mike Gay will officiate and burial will be in Whorton Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Dewey and Georgia Athelene Spencer Hendrixson and a brother, G.D. Hendrixson. Survivors include his wife, Vella Parsley Hendrixson of Liberty. Two daughters, Barbara and her husband Kenneth Vanatta of Dowelltown and Faye and her husband Bobby Hall of Alexandria. Three grandchildren, Amy and her husband Mike Gay, Bethney and her husband Ronnie Vaught, and Bradley and his wife Lacy Hall. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, George David and Ruth Earls Vaughn. Survivors include her husband, Freeland Estes of Smithville. One son, Charles Taylor of Liberty. One brother, David Vaughn of Crossville. One sister, Pat Sweeton. A half-brother, James Vaughn and a step brother, Russell McGee all of McMinnville. Five brothers and sisters-in-law, Louise Garrett of Liberty, Linda and her husband Ernie Taylor of McMinnville, Roy Taylor of Smithville, Marvin Taylor of McMinnville, and Lee and his wife Betty Taylor of Michigan.
