H.J. Judkins

88 year old H.J. Judkins, a well known nurseryman of Smithville, died Monday at his residence. He was a retired nurseryman and founder and former owner of H.J. Judkins & Son Nursery. Judkins was also an Honorary Lifetime member of the MTNA, AANA, SNA, and TNA Nurseryman’s Associations. Judkins was a World War II Army veteran and a member of the Mount View Primitive Baptist Church. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Paul Violet and Lynn Russell will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Josie Vanhooser Judkins; a son, Marlon Judkins; a granddaughter, Mary Claire Judkins; three brothers, Winfred, Grady, and Chris Judkins; and a sister, Mary Worcester. Survivors include his wife, Macon Knowles Judkins; two grandsons, Jim and Mac Judkins; a daughter-in-law, Leann Foutch Judkins all of Smithville. Two sisters, Audrey Jones and Gertha Anderson of Ohio. Special caretakers, Dianna Atnip and Ashley and Amanda Hobbs all of Smithville. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Milburn

64 year old Milburn “Smitty” Rodgers of Cookeville died Saturday at NHC Healthcare in Sparta. He was retired from the Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency and a member of the Smithville First United Methodist Church. The funeral will be Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Terry Little and Terry Redman will officiate and burial will be in the Keltonburg Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 3:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Milburn, Sr. and Claudine Rodgers. and a daughter, Tiffany Rodgers. Survivors include two sons, Milburn Rodgers III and his wife Patty of Carthage and John and his wife Terri Rodgers of North Carolina. One daughter, Camilla and her husband Hans Koeller of Colorado. Six grandchildren, Matthew and Nicklos Rodgers of Cookeville, Sean, Jasmaine, Justin and Malley Rodgers of North Carolina. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. 56 year old Roger White Cook of Watertown died Sunday at his residence. He was a lineman for Middle Tennessee Electric. The funeral will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Liberty United Methodist Church where he was a member. Mike Hale and Alan Lyons will officiate and burial will be in Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl White and Mary Martin Cook. Survivors include his wife, Sue Hunt Cook of Watertown. Three children. Two sisters, Carol Gibbs of Dowelltown and Joann Cook. One brother, David Cook of Smithville. Two sisters-in-law, Mary Jane and her husband Billy Hooper of Smithville and Johnnie Ruth Hunt of Liberty. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. 46 year old Tony Devault of Smithville died Wednesday. He was a Baptist, a truck driver for Pirtle’s Nursery and a long time nursery worker. The funeral will be Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Rodney Campbell will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from noon until 9:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. He is survived by his wife, Vicky Devault of Smithville. One son and his wife, Joey and Mandy Murphy of Smithville. A daughter and her husband Sheri and Brad Spivey of Smithville. Three grandchildren, Kelsey Murphy, Kaylee Martin, and Kaden Martin. His mother, Opal Atnip of Smithville. Five brothers, Rickey Devault, Jeff Ferrell, Scott Ferrell, Terry Ferrell, and Chris Ferrell all of Smithville. Several nieces and nephews also survive. 81 year old Estel “Shorty” Fleming of Brush Creek died Tuesday at Riverview Regional Medical Center North, Carthage. He was a Baptist, a U.S. Army World War II veteran, a Shriner since 1946, and a 32nd degree mason. The funeral will be Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Anderson Funeral Home. Rob Amason will officiate and burial will be in the Brush Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral. He was preceded in death by his parents, L.C. and Dora Harris Fleming along with six brothers and two sisters. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Rachel Hawkins Fleming; a son, Wayne Fleming; and a daughter, Barbara Askew all of Brush Creek. Two grandchildren, Brad and his wife Judy Askew of Brush Creek and Brian Askew of Gordonsville. A sister, Anna Lee Smith of Lebanon and several nieces and nephews. 18 year old Andrew Bryant Ferris died Monday night at the emergency room of DeKalb Community Hospital from injuries he received in an automobile accident. The funeral will be Thursday at 2pm at Dekalb Funeral Chapel. Frances Foster will officiate and burial will follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 2pm til 9pm and Thursday from 10 am until time of service at 2:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Howard Ferris and an uncle, Ronnie McBride. He is survived by his mother, Angela Ferris of Smithville. His father, Steve Ferris of Mount Juliet. His maternal grandparents, Carl and Frances McBride of Smithville. 95 year old Willie Othel Taylor of McMinnville died Tuesday at the Raintree Manor Nursing Home in McMinnville. He was a Baptist and a U.S. Army World War II veteran. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 4:30 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Will and Fannie Bell Hendrixson Taylor, and a nephew Willie Lee Fuson. Survivors include a son, Kenny Taylor of Silver Point. A sister Allie Mai Fuson of Smithville.
