91 year old Lester C. Franks of Manchester and a former resident of Warren County, died Monday at the United Regional Medical Center. The funeral will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Central Funeral Home in Manchester. Westley Hazel will officiate and burial will be in the Webb Cemetery in Warren County. The family will receive friends Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. He is survived by his wife, Era Webb Franks of Manchester. Two daughters, Sherry G. Clapp of Wentzville, Missouri and Brenda F. Krause and her husband Richard of Milton, Florida. Five grandchildren, Jason and his wife Jodi Clapp, Jeff and his wife Heather Clapp, Jamie Lauren Clapp, Erin Krause, and Meredith Krause. Four great grandchildren, Sara, Leigh, Lexy, and Jaylen, and a host of other relatives, friends and loved ones, some of whom live in the Smithville-DeKalb County area. 70 year old Robert D. “Bob” Jones of Liberty died Tuesday at University Medical Center in Lebanon. He was a Catholic, a U.S. Army Veteran, and a retired office worker. The funeral will be Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Michael Hale will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from noon until the service at 2:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence P. and Bernadette Jones. Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Charles P. and Lee Jones of Orchard Lake, Michigan. Nieces, Linda Mahoney and her husband John Wanamaker, Karen Roberts, and Paula Roberts. Nephews, Michael and his wife Cindy Mahoney, and James Jones. Great nieces, Kelly Roberts and Crystal Roberts Rowe. Great nephews, Sean Mahoney, Charles Roberts, and Andrew Weiss. 70 year old Sherwood D. Burt of Dowelltown died Monday at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was a member of the Dry Creek Baptist Church and a retired employee of Ross Gear. The funeral will be Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Donald Owens will officiate and burial will be in Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. He was preceded in death by his parents,Marcus Dewitt and Emma Elwood Holt Burt and a step-son, Rickie Parsley. Survivors include his wife, Helen Burt of Dowelltown. Four children, Terri and her husband D.A. Bott of Ohatchee, Alabama, Donna and her husband Don Hulteen of Lincoln, Alabama, Tina and her husband Johnny Mixon of Sonewall, Mississippi, and Robert Burt of Ohatchee, Alabama. Four step-children, Phillip and his wife Janice Parsley of Smyrna, Deborah Lynn O’Conner of Goodlettsville, Larry and his wife Miriam Parsley of Smyrna, and Vicki and her husband Kenneth Corley of Alexandria. A sister-in-law, Audrey Frazier of Smithville. Six grandchildren and several great grandchildren, ten step-grandchildren and fourteen step great grandchildren. James Tommy Johnson
70 year old James Tommy Johnson of Smithville died Tuesday at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was a self employed carpenter. The funeral will be Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Charles Ritchey will officiate and burial will be in the Banks Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 11:00 a.m. He was preceded in death by his father, Newt Johnson. Survivors include his mother, Mary Ella Hughes of Smithville. Five daughters, Judy Thomason and Rita Franklin of Smithville, Melissa, Linda, and Gail Johnson all of Nashville and thirteen grandchildren. The funeral for 74 year old Elizabeth Lindsey Burton will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. This will be a joint funeral service with Vinnie Vaylene Lindsey Roberts. Burial will be in the Crestlawn Memorial Cemetery. Survivors include two sisters, Veda Dew and Rebecca Wallace. Baxter Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 a.m. at the funeral home and Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.

70 year old Sherwood Burt of the Dry Creek Community died Monday evening. He is survived by his wife Helen Burt. The funeral arrangements are incomplete. A complete list of survivors and funeral arrangements will be announced later by DeKalb Funeral Chapel.
Henry Kittrell Elrod
90 year old Henry Kittrell Elrod of the Johnson’s Chapel Community died Friday at White County Hospital. Elrod was a retired teacher from the DeKalb County School System, a member of the Retired Teachers Association, and a member of the Peeled Chestnut Methodist Church. The funeral will be Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Thomas Davis will officiate and burial will be in the Peeled Chestnut Cemetery. Elrod was preceded in death by parents, George W. and Maude Kittrell Elrod, Sr.; a brother, George Elrod, Jr., and three sisters, Geraldine Elrod, Fannie Vinson, and Maude Keesling. Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, James and Faye Elrod of Manchester and four nephews and two nieces. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. 90 year old Louise Medlen Jacobs of Smithville died Thursday at NHC of Smithville. She was a homemaker and a member of the Smithville Church of Christ. The funeral will be Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in Whorton Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Warren C. and Leatha Jones Medlen; her husband, Bill Leon Jacobs; two brothers, Fred and Howard Medlen; and a sister Irene Medley. Survivors include a son Shawn and his wife Karen Jacobs; a granddaughter, Caitlin Jacobs; and a step-grandson, Justin Nokes all of Smithville along with several nieces and nephews. 72 year old Joan Faye Fitts of Smithville died Friday at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a retired factory worker and a member of the Church of Christ. The funeral will be Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Donald Owens will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.; Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.; and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Byron Fitts; her parents, Haskel and Loretta Slatton Young; two brothers, Morris and Gene Young and a sister, Joy Leighty. Survivors include a daughter, Cindy Knopp of Smithville. Two sons, Ricky Fitts of Smithville and Jeremy Fitts of Nashville. Three grandchildren, Carrie Talley of Alexandria and Kayla Edwards and Derrick Fitts both of Smithville. Two sisters, Betty Sue Herndon of Smithville and Patricia Ann Sain of Hermitage. 45 year old Roger Lee Cantrell of Smithville died Friday at Middle Tennessee Medical Center in Murfreesboro. He was a boilermaker and welder and a Baptist. The funeral will be Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. B.J. Thomason and Bransford England will officiate and burial will be in the New Union Cemetery. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee Harmon and Ruby Walker Cantrell. Survivors include a daughter, Hannah Grace Creasey of Lascassas. Three sisters, Lena Mullican of Smithville, Rose Ann and Jack Kile of Gatlinburg, and Linda and Hillary Suddarth of Castalian Springs. Local aunts and uncles, Helen and Herman Roller of Rock Island, Atwood and Eula Cantrell of Smithville, and Velma Walker of Smithville. Several nieces, nephews, and friends also survive.
